the high speed train from taipei main station to cks should take less than 45 min. probably less. it is fast, efficient, clean and if you are hungry the stewardess would come around and serve you box lunch. the box sushi was good, better than most airline food and it was cheap too. there are three classes of seat. go for the reserve seats. i believe they have a general class, reserve class and a business class. the reserve one is fine. just hang on to your ticket, you may be ask to show it to the cutie that walks up and down the aisle. i only wish american trains would operates as efficiently and cheaply.

Take one of the AIRPORT Busses to go straight to downtown.

Busses go every 15-20 min until midnight. You find the bus counter inside the airport building on the very left.

One bus is going from the Airport straight to main station. This bus is color coded like the american greyhound busses.

Cost might be similar.

The other bus line has multiple stops in town. This bus is green white color coded. I think the name is “ervergreen”.

If you take this one, you should take stop8 in town (ZhongXiao-FuXing Station). This is a (easier than main station) subway station.

Bus = 135 NT + Subway = 20 NT

Since you are in downtown – you can easily take a taxi. No cheating here.

Taxi to 101 would be 200 resp. 150 NT for the named options.

One thing that I think none of us have considered is WHEN do you arrive? If its night time, take the bus as has been suggested and then its a quick cab ride to 101. Shopping and dining around that area (Hsin Yi District) are outstanding and world class. They just opened a small bar and 2 retaurants on the top of 101 ubt getting a table there requires a 3 month wait. But see if you can grab a drink.

Take green airportbus to the city. Cost 135 twd. They leaving every 15 min. And need around 45 min to 1 hour depending on traffic.

Immigration will take around 30 minutes. Not longer. And you no need to wait for luggage. In the city take any taxi. Most do not speak englisch, but taipei101 they understand. Fares start at around 70 twd and will not be more than 150-200 within taipei.

In and around taipei101 are many many restaurants bars clubs, shoppingmalls with foodcourts.

Or maybe you try the taipei hooters. Sexy taiwan girls serving food and drinks

Of course 11 hours still give you time to relax 1-2 hours in asiaworld sauna. This will cost you another 4200 twd (around 88 euro), but worth every cent.

Thanks a head of time[/QUOTE]If you want to go directly to Taipei 101, there is a bus from the airport that will take you directly to the Grand Hyatt Hotel, which is right next door to 101. You will be there in about an hour.

It's called the "Toward You Air Bus". I think it's mainly just called "Air Bus" on the side of the bus. Cost is $145NT. Takes about an hour if there is no traffic. If you go to the bus ticket buying area and just say "Grand Hyatt", they will point you in the right direction. I just rode it two weeks ago coming back from Florida and I said Grand Hyatt. The Hyatt is the last stop so you'll know when to get off.

Anyone interested in going to a Jiu Dian / Hostess Bar tonight? I am trying to gather up a small group of 3-5 people to go and have fun.

The place we are going to is called "Jing Yen" which has a lot of hot girls. The costs are around 4, 000NT. 5, 000NT for 3 hours with a group of 5. KTV, Drink Liquor, Meet new people, and of course hot girls!

Linsen has the Zone, the place with all the hostess bars (Taiweanese or Philippinas, as the only Thai in the area left early this year). Like them, but after many trips I am known too much. Anybody wants a cool evening go to chatters and take one out there.
One of the girls mentioned a lot of bars with Thais in another area of Linsen. Not KTV, but also Bar style, can have a drink, look around, maybe get involved and take off.
Anybody can tell me in which lanes that is?

Thanks. That's exactly what I did, but not quite planned. I left customs, then I saw signs for express buses on the left so I went there. I then told one of the ladies I didn't have much time and wanted to see Taipei 101, she told me to talk to the lady in the next booth, which is Air Bus. I paid my $145NT then had to wait for the bus. I guess I had bad timing because I had to wait 30 minutes. The bus took exactly 1 hour to get to the Grand Hyatt.
On the way back to the airport it took about 1 hour and 20 minutes.

I did the typical touristy thing and went and did the Taipei 101 tour thing, had some coffee and food, then walked around for awhile.

I have to agree with the another person and say the public transportation is quite outstanding. The roads in that particualir area were very large and I didn't see any traffic jams. This was quite a contrast from Manila and Bangkok that I was just in before that. My only disappointment was I couldn't find any free WIFI in the mall, I tried by all the coffee shops in the mall, and I think there are at least 4 coffee shops there. I did find some free WIFI at the airport which kept me busy for an hour.

The KTVs do have girls that will leave with you but I have never been to one in Taiwan only China. But to answer your question I do call a service (but not Yuki, have my own) and then go to a place for "rest time" with my hottie.

Can anyone recommend an upscale, plush xiuxi hotel in/near Taipei? I'm looking for something a little decadent to take a favorite Freebie for 5 hours or so. Thanks. Thinking about driving up to Beitou, but the drive really cuts into our time.

Lin-Sen North Road, is frequented by JP business men. Those small alleys are referred to by the locals and JP business men as "- Tiao-Tong. " It means Alley number whatever. They are remnants of colonial era and now have Alley 5 to 10. There is a few Korean hostess bars as well now.

These bars are what the Japanese would called Hostess Bars. Most only drink and sing with you, with a bit of light touch or holding hands. If you want more, such as sex or "love", then you have to frequent the bar and somewhat become the patron of a certain girl. Most JP business men come to Taiwan to work for two or three years alone hence they tend to develop a "local wife. "

There are some bars that do focus on take-outs. They are mostly in Alley 6 or 7. I usually don't go to Hostess Bars for such actions hence can't provide names for you all. But the usual price is: short-stay, one pop, usually is 4000 NT and long-stay 8000NT.

Different bars charge a bit differently but most will charge you drinks and entrance fees. A bottle of black label Johny Walker would cost you 4000NT, Chivas Regal 6000NT, and etc. The entrance fees per person range from 1000 to 2500NT. After paying the entrance fees, you can sing until they close and eat as much fruits as you like, sometimes a bit of night snacks and what not. Girls will tend to want to give you their phone numbers if they like you and want you to come back more often.

Finally, some bars, you have to have friends who already know the establishment to introduce you, some you can just walk in without any problems. But the thing is, since most of them are really meant to be bars, drinking, chatting, and singing are the main activities there. If you want straight sex, or some actions close to that, then this is definitely NOT your place to go to. (Again with few exceptions in Alley 6 and 7). Another thing is, an obvious rule with drinking without sex involved, speaking some mandarin can certainly greatly enhance your experience there.

OK, a report on how dumb I am.

Back in Taiwan for a bit and near Longshan Temple so thought that I would browse the selection. Police were out earlier in the day but, after lunch the working girls were all over. I finally saw one that I liked outside a "Momo Tea" shop. Outside, she quoted me NTD1,000 for everything, in line with what I usually pay. However, unlike previous trips, she asked for the money up front, saying that she needed to pay for the tea and, stupidly, I complied.

You know where this is heading.

10 minutes later, that's it. No "momo" in the momo tea even. She said that perhaps I misunderstood her (my Mandarin probably sounds better than hers) and she said that she would only do that with older Taiwanese because younger guys and foreigners are too rough.

Other shops quotes prices all over the place but probably because there were more customers than usual, being a national holiday and all.

At least it's only 1,000 but lesson learned to never pay up front.

There are literally hundreds.

Wego 微閣 is probably the most famous, but pick up a copy of "Taipei Walker" in any 7-11. There is a little booklet this month with tons of love hotels for you and your lover to go to.
