I have never been to Shanghai, but given the high cost of living comparable to New York City, I don't think p4 p would come cheap. Plus, I feel that scams are more rampant there, and after reading through some of the posts, it feels like one has to jump through many hoops. South East Asia seems so much simpler.

I still remember back in the old days in 2009 and 2010 when I had a real blast at Dongguan. Getting around and hooking up with girls were also very easy. However, that was before the WeChat era. Before the cleanup, that city was a great playground for mongers and every hotels (even those western franchised ones) were equipped with many of their girls on call. Too bad I never got a change to visit the city anymore, and based on what I know, the place is now a dud after the crackdown.

- Shangahi is full of scams, including the taxis parked outside of Shanghai and the African guys standing right next to them.

- Shanghai is expensive, and you will pay many times more for Vietnamese tail there than you would for better in Vietnam if you know where to look.

Blaming them for not having better girls is nonsensical, as they don't and cannot control that. Personally, I enjoy a place like CJ's much more for its band and atmosphere and potential for hooking up, over a place like Thermae or Insanity in Bangkok, or Apocalypse in Ho Chi Minh, despite the first drink charge.

If you have a one-track mind and only value young girls and cheep beer, and don't value intangibles like atmosphere / service / music / band and a fun environment, there are plenty of other run-down shit-stained, sticky floor drinking holes around town that match your budget. Of course, those describe most of the Western-oriented gogo bars in Thailand and Cambodia.

On top of that, I've never heard of needing to pay any deposits, or temporary credits, and I've opened KTV rooms and such. Of course I book through PR staff which I've known for years. I"m questioning if it wasn't just a case of miscommunication, or if your 'local contact' was in on something, or the staff scammed you. You probably paid for the Minimum spending for the Room up front, but didn't meet the minimum? If that's the case, you won't get any money back for the difference.

I agree with Jkt Jon's assessment and would add that obviously CJ's is not for everybody. I recommend going on Friday or Saturday night after 11 pm. If you don't see any one that is to your taste, move on. No big deal. BTW, while the age of CJ's FL's is skewed towards the 26 to 30-year range, there ARE younger girls to be found there. Plus if anything happens, I can always dispute the charges, which is exactly what I am doing here. My CC company is crediting me back on this disputed charges. This amount is just a drop in the bucket on what I usually put on my card. It is just what Crown did that pissed me off. The CC company has leverage in not paying them.

I would hazard to guess when you were last in Macau. It must have been a while ago and boy have things changed! 1st prices have gone thru the roof. 2nd there is no brothel in the Holiday Inn anymore. And 3rd when I was last there in November the Holiday Inn was undergoing a total restoration inside and out. Except for their casino the hotel looked closed. 4th there are still Pinay SW's that hang out on the walking street behind the Holiday Inn directly in back of the Landmark Hotel. Not the highest quality girls, LOL. And they initially asked me for 2000 mop, but quickly lowered their offer to 1000 mop for ST. Still a lot of money considering their low quality and I was never tempted.

Always a much better option than the SW's back in the good old days were the Vietnamese Pensions (Casas) like Pension Residencia Rubi on the corner of Rua Nova do Comercio & Rua de Constantino Brito. You could walk into the lobby day or night in one of these places and immediately be accosted by 10 to 15 Viet's, some of whom were pretty good looking.

I believe there are still a few Viet full service massage shops near the Golden Dragon Hotel, but I rarely venture that way so someone else would have to confirm this info as current.

But given all the changes, if you like Vietnamese girls, I think you would still enjoy Macau and your best bet would be to visit Darling 1 which operates like a Thai soapy massage parlor. Your 2nd best option would be to visit Rio Sauna or Familiar Nobre Sauna to check out their very large line up of Viet girls. These two bordellos are the best saunas in Macau and appropriately priced as such, BUT like I said previously, the Viet's are at the lowest price point so it might be a real bargain for you Viet lovers, relatively speaking. Ha Ha.

Plus, I did acknowledge that I enjoyed the band.

But despite the trappings, it is a hooker bar. Let's not lose sight of that. The entire business model of that bar is based on being a meeting place for hookers and johns. And one of the most important parts of a hooker joint is the quality of the hookers.

I would put the quality of the hookers at CJs below that of the cute 365 k girls you might find at Classic at 9 pm. In my mind CJs is a bad deal.

Sure I could sit in CJs, drink 6 beers and enjoy the band but that would cost me 800 k (if you're correct about the dual drink lists) or 1. 2 million if beers are indeed 200 k. It's a lot of money to listen to music while surrounded by 35 year old hookers. I'd rather find somewhere to drink where I won't be pestered.

I can easily lose a night bouncing from one to the next. I do like the lack of pretense in a (good) gogo, while I despise the pretense of a hooker joint in a luxury hotel (and the pretense in general of many nightlife venues in Jakarta).

None of the girls I was with spoke any Chinese. Their English was usually OK. Most of the clients at Judy's or Manhattan are are local expats with a few Chinese springled in.

I'd do some research on the Shanghai board. There has been a big crackdown on P4 p there. But from whet I hear these places are still going strong!

Unfortunately, there are not as many good ones in Jakarta these days as there were years ago. In the late 90's, there were some good bands at the Green Pub, also the classic rock band at Aryaduta who mainly played deep purple was great, as was the Asia Reform band at Hard Rock sarinah (best cover band I have seen in Jakarta), and that black dude at BATS who did his James Brown impression wearing a suit and jumping way up in the air then landing doing the splits and dancing around. Soundphoria (with that Filipina chick named Jessica) at Ritz Carlton was really good too in the late 2000's till around 2012. The current CJs band has a few people in it who are pretty good like Fabio and his wife Jenny, but they haven't had a great talent there since Jessica left. She was awesome. The indo band they have there on either Sunday or Monday night has an older girl in the band who sings a great version of Making Love Out of Nothing at All. I was impressed. The old grandma looking chick at Jaya Pub still belts out a great version of New York New York. I do like the energy of the current band at BATS, but they aren't anything special musically. That exact same band at BATS had 2 hot blondes in the band last year but has downgraded to 2 very mediocre looking girls now, and I never really liked that Indian dude they have as a male singer.

2nd Born was a local indo band that was great and they used to play Planet Hollywood and pack the place, but I don't see them around anymore anywhere. They did without a doubt the best cover of Bohemian Rhapsody I have ever heard.

We even used to like to watch that Elvis impersonator who used to play Oscars, Amigos kemang and Top Gun, but I haven't seen him around in years. He wasn't that talented a singer, but I found it entertaining.

Eastern Promise currently has some decent bands on weekends. And Jaya Pub has some decent music. But at the moment I don't know of any really good cover bands in town.

There used to be such a lounge a few years back called Top Cat if not mistaken, but I think it has gone out of business. I noticed many such lounges go out of business, maybe due to high operating costs.

I am kind of tired of seeing same band playing at CJ, and they have been there for years now. I kept seeing that same white male singer on stage three years in a row, though lately I noticed that he has been relegated as backup singer, plus he had lost weight. Maybe all these nights of performing takes a toll. Nonetheless, with the exception of one Asian lady singer up there who can pitch the high note, the rest were more often than not out of tune.

If not for the purpose of picking up FL there, I would prefer to chill out at other lounges.
