Selective enforcement: don't fail the attitude test
Technically, you are allowed to enter 2 times per calendar year on visa exemption. However the immigration officer allows everyone in to Thailand on his or her's discretion. However, some travelers have been allowed in more than 2 times in one calendar year and some get questioned and refused entry because of their previous entry history from a previous year. Therefore, immigration can do what they want. There are stories of guys coming in as much as 10 times on visa exemption when others can't get away with more than 2.
In my personal case I only entered under the "visa exemption" program twice during a calendar year. So, unlike others are reporting, I have never had a problem entering The Kingdom of Thailand.
How to reduce the risk of being denied entry as a tourist to Thailand entering on visa exemption? First step is always be able to show a return or onward flight if the immigration officer asks. Secondly, be prepared to show proof of travel funds of 20,000 Baht or equivalent in foreign currency. Thirdly, be prepared to show proof of accommodation if asked. The IO may ask for one or two or all three or none.
The actual factual items to be presented to the immigration officer are excellent preparation and everyone should have them ready to be presented immigration if requested.
Should be noted that I entered the Kingdom of Thailand once when my return ticket was 60 days away from my entry date. I only received permission to stay for 30 days. No problems with the immigration officer. In fact, none of those questions listed by the OP were even asked. I was dressed nice enough be let on the plane, I was polite. I was prepared to cooperate with all requests. I certainly had no intention to fail the "attitude test".
When it comes to your behavior, be polite, dress appropriately with a neat appearance, and cooperate with all their requests.
Seems to be pretty basic suggestions and universal when entering a county other than your own. The only time I smart off to immigration officers is when I am entering my country of origin. I have had many tete-a-tete with mother fucking dumb ass immigration officers as I enter my country of origin. One of my favorite occasions was when a male immigration officer asked what was my profession. I told him I was a photographer. He the proceeded to ask me what kind of photography. I told him pornographic. After I pregnant pause, I said to him, perhaps you have seen some of my work. His response was: welcome back to the US. LOL!
Next, you can apply for a single or multiple entry tourist visa from a Thai embassy or consulate. However, you should still be prepared to show some or all of the above if requested by the IO. Note that tourists are not supposed to be in Thailand for more than 180 days per calendar year. If you find yourself approaching this, doing a visa or border run with an agency may get you one more entry or one more tourist visa plus an extension in country as the agency makes prior arrangements with the land border immigration. If you enter many timers by air as a tourist, this can be dangerous as the airport is where the entry rules are more strictly enforced as it's not impossible to use an agency to enter by air.
I have entered by both air and using an agency to make a border run. Both times were seamless.
Finally, there is no secret way or secret visa that you can buy before or after you are initially refused entry that can help you enter Thailand. However, with the help of a lawyer, you can appeal the refusal of entry and if you are lucky and you have a valid reason, after a couple of days, they will allow you to enter. Most people don't know about this or can't be bothered to try or pay for this.
Interesting. Where to you live / stay? In the airport while waiting for your appeal to be processed?
About the 60 day visa exemption and DTV. These two new initiatives have been approved by the new government to begin sometime in the near future once the legal process has been finished. The details of both of these initiatives are still not clear. What's unknown? For the visa exemption for 60 days, according to the law, the officer has the authority to extend a visa exempt entry for 30 days at their discretion. We are hoping this will continue for the 60 days visa exemption so you can extend your stay to 90 days. For the DTV, there are so many things unclear we will just have to wait and see.
The Destination Thailand Visa sounds interesting. I am waiting for the details to be confirmed by government officials. I really do not like high season in Thailand. So 180 days is enough time each calendar year for me. Gives me plenty of time to enjoy the Bus Bar, the girls of Thai Friendly, the girls of Beach Road and my ATF.
How you like me now?
