Bullet Scams and US Homeland Defense
Naia's bulletscam have nothing to do with a russian jet...the bullet planting scheme takes place long time before and are not attached to the airlines.
Yes the bullet scam scheme seems to be (mostly?) done at the airport entrance. So anyone coming and thinking to get their luggage wrapped, I believe that is done Inside the terminal, after the initial screening. The initial screeners are part of the chain of custody of all your luggage.
These scams are being done by Office of Transportation Security (OTS), personnel. I understand the agency was created by the president, and the boss is a former security officer for him. Now US flag carriers probably screen checked luggage again before it is loaded in aircraft.
But what US Homeland defense must be considering is, a lack of confidence in the OTS personnel. Is OTC in place on the back side of the terminal? Guarding employee access, the gates, baggage handling, etc? Is OTC doing the background checks on airport personnel? I don't know, their web site is not clear about their duties. Homeland defense may not understand, like the PI gov does, that the bullet scams are just "good old boy" stuff and not dangerous to flights.
I am thinking Homeland Defense will quietly tell them to knock if off (the bullet scams), or they will stop the US-bound flights because of a lack of trust in the system. The Egypt crash it points out to the US / UK, etc that airport backside security is too slack.
I remember seeing one of the news reports, an airline security spokeman was saying "we can't check everything all the time, so we rely on our people looking out for each other". That's funny.
Uber Manila to Take Cash Soon
Just updated my Uber app and a pop-up says they are running an experiment to accept cash payments in Manila. "If you don't see the CASH option yet, don't worry. This will be gradually rolled out to more riders soon. Double check your payment method before requesting a ride. ".
If you didn't know, as of two months ago, Uber does not support trips to Angeles or Subic, or anywhere outside Metro Manila. I know because I tried three times on my last arrival. I learned:
Uber drivers are 'hovering' around outside the terminals. I put in a request to SUBIC, and each time a driver took the request in seconds. I know they are notified of my destination because I had Uber do an "estimate" for Subic and 2), on one drivers car I saw my destination indicated on his phone. So they are jumping on ride requests without even looking at the destination.
Each time, when the driver showed up, and I affirmed I was going to Subic, they backed out. One offered to take me to the city limits and leave me there!
Mild scam alert: one driver had started the "trip" before he arrived. Of course that "start the meter early" bit is an old one. I got a refund from Uber promptly.
I don't know when / how we will ever know when they are ready to take fares to AC or Subic. AC at least should be lucrative for them. The white taxis do that a lot.
