My friend, sometimes I think you make Davao sound as too much of a P4P place, and it is simply not. Both you and I know that, but having said that we both also know that students that will fuck you for "taxi money" are in abundance. But maybe I have just been unlucky or very picky with the P4P girls.

Next to Central Bank, the Plaza Roman complex would be my preferred destination if I had to go totally professional in Davao. There are several bars plus the massage joint, and you do not get the Red Horse nurturing scumbags occupying every seat and making the girls uneasy.

I have had very good luck meeting regular women at Davao City Malls, net cafes, coffee shops, Davao Doctors' Hospital Offices, on the street at 5:00PM when Offices let out and by Hospitals. I do not usually pursue the Pros but I have encounterred them on the Street by J Camus / Illustre Sts in the evening and by Peoples Park. I tend to avoid San Pedro St these days but I used to venture there back in 2004 when GE and I shared an abode in Lanang.

For the Clubs I do like Hot Legs 3. Never used the VIP Rooms there so I do not know if they are anyway clean or decent. Doubt it. I have seen many women in here that I thought were very pretty and sexy. As the girls tend to get nude at some point in the evening, you get to see what they have to offer. And they are aggressive about coming over to you. Whenever I met someone I inquired about taking out, they always quoted me 3, 500 pesos. When I started laughing hysterically at this, they dropped it to 2, 500. After fifteen minutes and I was still laughing, they got up and left.

Ayala Mall should be okay for the Holidays. Have to see. How is Italianno Restaurant? Is if fine dining similar to the one at Greenbelt 2 in Makati?

Anyone here the early part of January? I will be here but I must leave as I have to be somewhere on January 8 & 9 (2 different islands; 2 different occasions). From prior years I can state that it is very quiet here in early January. In fact, Davao is quiet from December 24. January 10. Not what you could call a Holiday travel Place or a New Year Destination. Still, I will be here then as my baby Son is here. All the reason I need.

This Board is being neglected. And this is my Home in the Philippines. I need to provide updates on some items here. First IS the ist on "Unusual Characters" encountered in Davao City over the years. This has provided an abundance of "material" for my Posts here over the Years.

Fat Mike: He was a regular character back in 2004-2006 both at "Ground Zero" (convenience store corner of Illustre & J Camus Sts) and O'Flanagan's Pub (closed in 2009). You could count on him being at both Spots nightly. Also, we used to run a little "betting pool" on when he would next lose his cellphone. I do not recall him ever having a cellphone in his possession longer than 2 weeks.

What happened to him: GoodEnough and I ran into him back in Feb 2006 at Hot Legs 2, which was then recently opened. Basically a dive in the basement of some building with cheap tables and plastic chairs and "cheap women" dancing totally nude. Calling it a dump is doing it a favor. In any event Fat Mike was out with his young wife. Recently married, he was never seen / heard from again. He IS "retired" from the Davao Nightlife and a "stay at home guy" now. Most likely has 2-3 children and is content with tv and a few beers in the evening. He told us that evening that the wife was "looking after" his cellphone and wallet (Mike often lost his wallet also). Gone but not Forgotten.

Sir Brad: Now this guy was a "ral fucking 'gem'". I first met "Sir Brad the Stud" back in May 2007 at Henny's "de Bonte Koe Restaurant" on Rizal St. GE had sprung him on me as I met him for dinner there. Brad lived all of his then 42 years on a farm in the US State of Texas. He lived his entire life with his parents. He got to reading the ISG Forum on his laptop and came across guys calling themselves GoodEnough and Dragon Slayer in the Original Philippine Forum.

Ol Brad became "enchanted" with the posted exploites of GE & Slayer to the point where he decided it was time to "up and leave the nest". I can only imagine the look on Mama & Papa Brad's faces when their young son (age 42) walked into the livingroom and announced one evening that he was taking a Trip to Davao City, Philippines. That must have been "Some Occasion". He had contacted GE, sending him various and sundry PMs requesting Hotel & Flight Information. GE even provied his personal CP# for ol Brad.

The CP# had the unusual "result" of Mama Brad calling GoodEnough on a regular (as in almost daily) basis, inquiring about such mundane items as "where in the world is Davao City" and "what will my "boy" do in this Place". Now, I have no idea exactly what GE told Mama, but she became convinced that he would be "the elder brother that Sir Brad never had". So, her fears were "put to rest" more or less.

I can still remember sitting down at the table closest to the entrance of Henny's Place and seeing Brad sitting there with his fucking "Farmer John" hat on declaring outloud,"oh my oh my, what an occasion this is. To think I am meeting Mr Dragon Slayer himself". GE looked away as I leaned over and whispered to him,"don't tell me you invited that fucking "whack job farmboy" from Texas here tonight!"

Brad's "Exploits" in Davao City filled many a Post here back in 2007-2008. What happened to him? Simply put, GE was literally his fucking "Go to guy" for everything from Hotels, Airplane Flights and Women. I finally asked him,"isn't it time you cut the chain on this ankor around your leg?" I mean when GE had to depart on a business trip for nearly two months away, he threw a "Bon Voyage Party" at his Home in Ladislawa. Ol Brad lived right up the block at Red Knight Garden, a five minute taxi ride. But he was "too tired" from partying the night before and could not be bothered to come by for an hour and wish GE a Safe Trip. This pissed me off immensely. All GE had done for this runt and he could not be bothered.

What Happened to Him: Without GE's constant assistance Sir Brad was literally "Lost in Space". He packed up one dreary day and departed for Home. He did return to the Phils, and according to Mama Brad, he is in some area neither GE nor I ever heard of in our years here. Mama Brad does continue to telephone GE from time to time.

Fat Larry: This is the guy GE told me about back in 2008. He had arrived on the Davao scene from New Orleans, Louisiana. The "story" is that he had a Restaurant there that was ruined by Hurricane Katrina. He did some work as a chef in other places in New Orleans until deciding to head to Davao City, Philippines. How he heard of Davao, I have no clue. He has elected himself to be "the honorable restaurant critic of the ex-pat community". He chose Henny's Restaurant as his initial hangout and made it his business to meet all ex-pats who ventured into (or sat at one of the outside tables).

I heard about this guy from GE over dinner one evening. I first met him on a week night when I went by Henny's for a drink and to meet some 21 year old Davao co-ed I was fucking at the time. She was getting out of an evening class and was to meet me there for dinner and then to blow and fuck me before returning home to her old auntie's house. I figured out who this guy was real fast. Aside from his appearance (grotesque) , he came off as a decent guy at first. This changed over the next two hours as he had a few drinks. He went from talking with me, to advising me to giving me orders and telling me what to do. Just in a two hour span of time.

I quickly determine that this "Ghoul" belonged in a Hollywood Slasher Film and NOT as an acquaintance of mine. With the co-ed by my side, I made an Exit and have gone far out of my to avoid this guy ever since. He will never have trouble finding work. All he has to do is head to Hollywood, California and get started in Horror Films. As the intro to one such Film that came out in 2010 reads,"last Year in Hollywood. 36 Horror Movies were filmed. All of them made money." No makeup required for this guy. Just hand him and axe and a knife and tell him when to commence action.

What Happened to Him: He is now teaching in a Culinary Institute in Davao City and rarely ventures out in the evening. He has been banned from a few Places such as Claude's "Cafe de Ville" for his behavior and comments. Actually, he scares people. Last year on Rose's birthday he had entered Henny's as we were celebrating with GE and his Lady. My young Son was with us, naturally. He walked up and shook hands with GE and myself and then took his spot near the bar in the far corner. Rose commented on how I did not look at him when he came over. I said,"I have a weak stomach and did not want to ruin my dinner".

GoodEnough said he ran a Post reviewing a new Italian Restaurant on the new, top floor of Gaisano Mall. I hope he will post on this here. Sounds like a decent Place; not elegant but good food and good service in a congenial atmosphere.

The very make-up of Davao City ensures that it is virtually impossible to avoid the "Unusual Characters" in the Ex-pat Community. Only way you could do this would be to skip any of the decent Restaurants or Places where foreeigners frequent. You would have to "go native", living the Life of a regular Filipino. Poor, unemployed, squalid home and life on the edge. Some do this I know. Fortunately, I have been able to avoid this "group", primarily by avoiding carenderiars and Filipino bars.

I prefer the "Characters" mentioned herein, no matter how unusual their behavior may be.

Fat Terrence:

I met him back in January 2010. I was in Cafe de Ville Restaurant dining with Melody, the very beautiful 21 year old I first met when she danced at Fantastic in CDO. I took her from that life, believing she was way too lovely to be destroyed at her very young age.

It was a quiet night in Claude's around 9:30PM. We were dining in a corner on great french cuisine and drinking a good bottle of french red. This fat, white, american guy had come in earlier and was sitting at a table a distance away drinking wine and speaking with Claude and any of the Staff whom he could gain the attention. He turns and sees Melody next to me. Impossible for this fat fuck to keep silent, he bellows outloud,"where the hck did you meet her? I bet it was in Church. Haw Haw Haw, Heh heh" I turned towards him, no smile and said,"the lady belongs to me. That is all you need to know".

Terrence was far too stupid to heed advice. But, as he began a retort, Claude had noticed something Terrence did not. I had quietly pussed my chair back, moved my left hand towards something just in case, and focused on the "task ahead", staring at this fat redneck. Claude went over and put an arm around old Terrence, speaking in earnest to him quietly. I could not hear a word but the fat fuck's face took on an expression like he just heard his Family member had died. He looked away from me and did smile.

I called for the bill, paid and we got up to leave. Claude had heard the "reports". I guess he believed what he heard. He came over and escorted us outside saying,"pay no attention to that guy. He drinks too much and shoots his mouth off too much. But he is returning to American and is not due back until September". We went by Henny's for an after dinner drink which we would have enjoyed at Claude's but for this Fat Fuck. I heard that Fat Terrence is some sort of lonely, businessman. No friends and no woman. He visits Davao ever September and January for a couple weeks. As to why Davao City, I have no idea. He could be an avid reader of the Davao Board on the Original Philippine Forum. He will be here when I return. I should be able to avoid him.

The Kid:

No post on "Unusual Characters" would ever be complete without my erswhile, estranged nephew in NYC. Now a long standing veteran of NYPD, he first arrived on the Davao Scene in June 2006. I had given him the cellphone # of Rose, the younger sister of Elaine whom I was fucking back then. Elaine and I parted ways shortly afterwards. But for the Kid, Rose was literally his First Ever Girlfriend! He was something like 38 then. Raised by my parents, he never acquired a sense of Personal Responsibility. My Mother dropped dead one morning in the basement of the Home I grew up in while doing the Kid's Laundry. He was in his late 20's at the time.

I had promised my Mother to look after him. My Brother had long since given up any hope of the Kid doing anything positive with his life. So I "picked up the baton", a move I have regretted for five years now. GoodEnough would constantly say,"I cannot believe he is your nephew". I said,"yes he does behave a bit differently". He was content to hang out at his Irish Club outside NYC, some marlboros and do "Shots & beers" like there would be no tomorrow. The Shots were Jameson's Irish whiskey (very good) and Irish Beers (also good). Often, I wondered if he had a leg made of teflon where the drinks got deposited.

Both GE and Myself gave his relationship with this Rose a few months at best. I mean the Kid drinks like a Fish (very big fish) and Smokes like a "Five Alarm" Fire. ANd he is 6'0" and 325lbs. Now this Rose was about 4'11" and weighed 90lbs. She hated smokers to the point where she got "disturbed" one evening at Henny's Place when GoodEnough stepped outside to smoke. I even said that "we might be making a mistake giving her phone # to my nephew".

And this held true after his second Trip in Oct 2006 to see her in Davao. She told him she was interested in the "Cyber Dilly" in Nowheresville, USA whom she had been chatting with on the net for 3 1/2 years (never met him). I meanwhile began an all out move to find him a Replacement Filipina. I utilized ALL the ladies I knew and even enlisted the assistance of my young daughter in Leyte. Armed with his photo, she found a dozen or more girls age 17-22 for him. All cute (I told her no pigs) and sexy. And both of the Mothers' of my then two children came through on this daunting take. He was introduced to lady MDs in Cebu and Nurses and Ex-Ray Techs. Cute, lovely and 23-30.

My Jen came through with an unbelievably gorgeous 23 year old, former professional nightclub singer in Makati. I was amazed! I mean the Kid was "striking out" back home in NYC with fat, ugly, heavy somking, heavier drinking "porkers". And here he was getting set up with women I would cut off my left nut to meet. Whenever he arrived in the Phils the number one priority was "Finding my Nephew a Nice, cute, young girl". All my lady friends were enlisted, leaving me incredibly vulnerable!

Of course he FUCKED IT UP! What else was going to happen? He IS a collossal fuckup. He reeked of nicotine and was constantly smoking, inspite of my mentioning that women who do not smoke will find this offensive. He ignored my suggestions on dressing nice and favored the huge "tent like" shirt over nice clothing. The result was a batting record worse than Strikeout Eddie. My Son; s Mother said he was too "big" for any of her girlfriends, a comment echoed by the wives of a few of my Pals whose help I had enlisted. I did manage to hook him up with a girl in Manila who was 21 and cute and slender. Met her and her oldre cousin online and passed on the Kid's cellphone number to them. He ended up dating this girl for a year.

Where is he now: Married! We overlooked one thing: The IMMIAGRATION FACTOR. Out of the "air" Rose again contacted him after a two year abscense. She "decided" he was the "right man for her afterall". This "revelation" was the result of her older sister Elaine marrying some guy from Chicago whom she met on the internet. He was in his 70's and poor health. He did her a HUGE FAVOR BY DYING A FEW MONTHS AFTER HER ARRIVAL IN CHICAGO. By "Coincidence" they have relatives living in Chicago. Elaine is IN HIDING seeking a Sucker to marry her so she can complete the Two Year Obligation for residency.

I told me nephew this Hustler was seeking a Green Card, NOT a Man to Love and Marry. He would have none of this. Fuck even my older sisters, not the most intelligent people around, doubted her sincerity. GoodEnough only had one comment: "Wha is it a two hour flight to Chicago from New York City?"

Rose took control of my Nephew faster than you can say "ripe sucker on the half shell". His first girlfriend ever. He just was NOT going to listen to anyone. Rose quickly told him he had to cut contact with me permanently. He obliged without a second thought to this. Got her to AMerica on the "Turkey to be pluched Express" and married her faster than you can say "no prenup necessary". I, of course, was not invited. Have not heard from, him since mid 2009. In rare talks with his mother, one of my much older sisters, she never mentions his name. Six months ago GoodEnough telephoned the Kid and inquired as to how he is. The kid never replied. But he no longer needs GE to get him hotels or introduce him to women. Like me, he is obsolete in the Kid's World. At least until Divorce Time.

Looking for a decent Hotel in Davao, have read hundreds of threads on here but nothing has jumped out yet. Having never been to Davao I'm not sure of the best area to stay. Seems like there's 2 at the top being MP and Apo View which would be the best and a few of the lower price places seem like they are a little out of town? Is there anything slightly under the top 2 that would be adequate? I haven't seen any posts on the Pinnacle Hotel, looks like it is quite new and right next door to Gaisano Mall. Has anyone stayed here and if so, good or bad? What about location? It has a pool / gym which is a bonus. I have a couple of girls to meet in Davao and being next door to the Mall I'm sure would be a bonus also. Any thoughts on this place would be appreciated.

It's a great location, right in the middle of the central business district, and a 5-10 minutes taxi ride from most of the downtown places. I don't know anything about the prices or the quality of the rooms, but from the outside, it looks like a very nice place.

For those who may have missed one of my earlier posts, Gaisano has just added a fourth floor and actually also a fifth floor to acommodate nothing but restaurants. There's a new coffee shop on the fourth floor and what look like an inexpensive eatery, but the fiftt floor, acceessable only by a short stairway from the lower to the upper terrace, holds a new Italian place called Don Beppe, which is very nicely appointed, and where the food is quite good and reasonably priced. We ate there twice last week end, and were impressed by the geniality to Beppe, and the quality of his food and wines. I should add that the restaurant is done in the style of a Trattoria. It's not fancy and it lacks candlelight and table clothes. But it's very attractively done in light wood and beige brick, with windows on three sides overlooking the large terrace, and much of the city.

Please note that there are many Malls now in Davao City. If you are in downtown Davao you are a short walk or a less than five minute taxi ride to Gaisano South Mall. You are a 10-15 minute taxi ride to Victoria Plaza Mall. You are just a little bit further to the new Ayala Mall. I rarely go to Gaisano Mall as it is off the track from where I stay. My Son's Mother worked there until recently. She is in school now in downtown Davao.

Consider the Hotel on Rizal Street next to Rizal Promenade. A lot of guys from ISG stayed there. It gets an A for Location; literally right next to Rizal Promenade and a five minute walk to Habana Compound where Henny's De Bonte Koe Restaurant is and Chico's Nightclub. In this courtyard you gets crowds of young filipinas hanginog out from 8PM to 03:00AM Thursady-Saturday nights. You are also a 3 minute walk to Hot Legs 3 and directly across the street from a Filipino karaoke place with food and drinks which gets women. I forget the Name of this Place but many guys here know it. Located right on Rizal St in downtown Davao. It is not first rate but I heard it is okay and you cannot beat the location.

Not to mention the new, enormous SM Mall that will be completed sometime next year, just up the street from the new Abreeza on Lanang. The SM Mall will also feature a hotel-I heard it's going to be a Ramada-right next door. There are new hotels going up or just opened all over the city, and it's tough to keep track of them all. What's even more amazing is that they all seem to be doing a decent business. Davao is one of the few bits of really positive economic development in the country, and it constantly amazes me how much it's changed since I got here; new stores, new restaurants and hotels, improved municipal services. All in all, not a bad place to be at all.

i leave in a few days for the philippines. started packing last night as i have a ton of gifts for my children and theri mommies. no need to even consider who is "most.

anticipating their gifts". the children are happy with a box of chocolates and a small gift. that is all but my teenage daughter. he list goes on for a few pages. i gave up reading it on the fourth paragraph. i have her jewelry and her perfume, courtesy of a client who owns a jewelery business and the internet for shopping for fine perfumes and free delivery by christmas. as to the rest, not sure. as to the mothers, they can expect jewelry, boses of chocolates and expensive perfume. if they want more they need to contact some other guy. anyone wishing to "pick up my slack" can feel free to jump in here. and of course champagne. this takes up most of the space in my bags. flying first class via cashing in a ton of frequent miles, i will be okay on weight allowance.
