I've walked around this area at night without any problems. Nevertheless, common sense precautions should be taken. Walk swiftly and with purpose. Don't get sloppy drunk.
I'd like to hear about what accommodations you've arranged. Maybe airbnb? The last time I stayed there I was at Copacabana Hotel which is across the street. I enjoyed the very large rooms, but the bed was terribly noisy during play.
Staying at IECASA at Sea Resid $75/ nt- first time used. Booked thru agoda - - close to MOA & EDSA Complex.

I have gleaned all the usual tips from this forum over the better part of a decade. While I disagree some of the Makati-mania and still prefer the prospecting challenges of LA Cafe, I've learned most of what I know from this group. I wanted to make a small contribution in turn.
Yesterday, I headed out to Quiapo to explore. It's a lively area on a Sunday with the big screen church, fortune tellers, and a food market. Don't let people scare you off. The area is very safe during the day. To get there, just ask a taxi to take you to Quiapo Church or take the LRT / MRT to Carriedo station. I went around 2 PM.
My tour didn't result in any mongering completed (mostly due to lack of courage), but I'll be back to finish it off later. My first walk was down Rizal St, heading North from Carriedo Station towards Recto, walking on the east side of the street. If you walk on the footpath proper, you'll eventually see signs for various stripper joints. I went in one along the way that advertised 8 girls. I walked up the stairs, into a completely dark room with faint disco lights flashing. A man clapped his hands (presumably calling the girls) and invited me in for a drink. The darkness of the place made me nervous and, without a wingman, I bailed. Might be interesting.
After that, I turned right at Recto and walked towards the Isetaan plaza. An uninteresting mall, except for the entry steps at the corner of Evangalista & Recto. Here were obvious WG's, locking eyes with me. I wasn't sure what to do, and the one I like shortly vanished. I tried to follow her, but lost her in the crowd. I wanted to investigate further, so returned to the steps. There a mamasan approached me and asked what I wanted. I told her slim, under 30, pretty. She called a girl over that fit the bill perfectly. She told me 3 K for short time. I laughed and told her she was crazy. She quickly dropped to 1 k, the "local rate" - right. It was enough for me, though, so we agreed. She asked where I'd go and said the girl would follow me. I told her the ST hotel just down the Recto the way I had come. For some reason, she didn't like that, and suggested another hotel further up Recto. One of my mongering rules is that I always choose the spot. Beginning to feel this may be a trap, I thanked her and bailed back down Recto. She chased me a bit, but gave up. I was probably worried for nothing, but I have my guidelines out of an abundance of caution and they don't work if you readily drop them.
So, onwards. Went a short distance down Recto and stopped at a bar for an SML. The waitresses here were sexily dressed and cute, but I wasn't sure of the deal, so I left after 2. Needless to say, I was the only foreigner there (in fact possibly the only foreigner in Quiapo!) but enjoyed the 45 PHP beer. Retracing my steps, I went down Recto and left onto Rizal, walking on the west side now, which is much emptier than the east side- a couple of closed bars, some money changers and a grocery store. Before too long, probably midway between Carriedo & Recto, a cute girl caught my eye. Her mamasan quickly diverted my gaze and asked if I wanted her. She began an intense marketing pitch - "she very young!" Another warning phrase. I asked how young and got simply, "very young! She looked to be about 18/19, but I wanted to be sure. I asked if she had ID. She didn't, but the mama insisted the hotel around the corner knew her and would let her in. Again, Admiral Akbar's words entered my head. Getting jumped in the last situation was probably better than having cops called with an underaged girl in this one. I bid adieu and headed to the Carriedo station. (On another note, the new BEEP card, which you buy from a queue-less machine for php100 for about 10 round trips is amazing and a game changer for fast movement in manila.).
Falling back on habit, I took the train 2 stops to United Nations, went to Robinsons / Starbucks, found it empty and off to LA Cafe. Had an amazing session with a girl from Mindinao to close out the weekend at the Robinsons Eurotel. As to Quiapo, though, I shall return.

I have walked the area on a number of occasions myself, including on Easter Sunday. Crowds overflowing out of the Quiapo Church and the adjacent plaza (thousands watching an outside big screen TV broadcast of the services), and then right next door for about two blocks was a succession of shops selling martial arts weapons, survival knives, and camouflage uniforms. Welcome to schizophrenic Philippines. At the time there were some great buys on Philippine crafts in the areas under the raised roadway leading to the Quezon Blvd. Bridge over the Pasig River.
I never felt unsafe, but traveled only during the daytime. I was never tempted to engage any of the p4p merchandise on display because riding the LRT (this is not the MRT, it's LRT 1; there is a difference) three stops to Pedro Gil got me so easily to LA Cafe, where I never had concerns about safety.

It's been several years since I borrowed a gal at EDSA. You'll probably have to pay a bit more. Slip them your phone number discreetly.
It's been several years since I borrowed a gal at EDSA. You'll probably have to pay a bit more. Slip them your phone number discreetly.
The most common way to do this is for the girl to make a excuse to go to the washroom where she writes down her number on a serviette and comes back and casually places it next to your drink. You pick it up and the game is on. However, I have noticed lately that the mamasans, waitresses and massage ladies are constantly hovering near customers with ahawk eye watching out for such malpractices.
I have even seen a customer slip a strip of paper (05. Cm x 4 cm) with his number printed on it. I bet he must be carrying a dozen strips or so every time he steps out.

I am a newbie in the Phil's so bear with me?
Am I better going to Burgos or LA Cafe. I am only here for a few days and the plan was to stay close to the airport and stay out of the traffic. Just grabbing a local hassle free bite to eat you could say!

Actually, there are several universities in the area. This is where real people live and work.
It just doesn't look like a punting destination to me. Its too "real. " Its a dirty, bustling working class area. Not a nightlife area.
I am a newbie in the Phil's so bear with me? Am I better going to Burgos or LA Cafe.
For the sake of this discussion, let's assume that the GFE is readily available in all three locations so it is merely a question of looks and how much you are willing to pay for it. Burgos Bar girls will run from 4000 p (Rogues) to 7000 p (Bottoms) all in (barfine, service fee, and lady drinks) and there are some very good looking girls here. EDSA Complex Bar Girls will run around 5000p and you will find some lookers here too early. La Cafe FL's will ask around 2000 p to 3000 p not counting her drinks, but I don't much like the quality of LA Cafe girls, although I do enjoy its honky tonk ambiance once in a while and you might find a rare gem there. Thus I am primarily a Burgos and EDSA Entertainment Complex punter. What kind of punter are you? What kind of girl are you looking for? Since you are planning to stay in Manila for a few nights, this will be an excellent opportunity to find out. I suggest you spend a night on Burgos, a night at the EDSA Complex, and a night at LA Cafe. You will have a blast. If you are not into travelling around that much then just check out EDSA and LA Cafe. Keep in mind that many Burgos Bars are still very interesting between midnight and 1am, so if you don't like what you find elsewhere, it is not too late to taxi over to Makati. It is not a long trip at that hour. Vice a versa, LA Cafe is open 24 hours a day. LOL. Good luck hunting!

It is the area bounded on the south by the LRT 1 station at Carriedo, on the north by the Doroteo Jose station, on the east by LRT 2 Recto station, and on the west roughly by T. Mapua.

I have gleaned all the usual tips from this forum over the better part of a decade.
I did a long report on Quiapo several years ago on a basis similar to this. I had other reasons for being around there. Sometimes you can find interesting collectibles at the anything-of-value places or make a small purchase at the wholesale eyeglasses mart or maybe look at the videos on Hidalgo St. Cheaper prices for everything than Malate.
As for clubs, the ones I went into ranged from passable to roach-infested (and that's not understating it), and they'd pat you down and take cellphones at the door. You'd also attract too much attention and wanting to buy lady drinks as a foreigner, but if you didn't sit near the stage they'd eventually back off. The Harem I remember to be decorated like a San Francisco place circa 1969. Girls seemed shy. There was some kind of short-time deal but it didn't compare favorably price-wise. Another place along Quezon Ave. Was larger but decent.
So basically I concur that the area has potential and certainly more than its share of ST hotels. OTOH, seems very hit-and-miss and likely intimidating at night just due to inadequate lighting in places and a different mix of people.

Its a very dusty, working class area.
To give you an idea, it looked like the area where they filmed Bourne Legacy. I don't know if it actually was, but it sure looked like it. Dirty. Grimy. With the elevated tracks overhead.
