While they can make a profit on a shorter ride, the driver also realizes he might not get a fare coming back from Makati to Malate, and must make up the non-customer return trip in some way.

By and large I've experienced few problems with drivers using meters provided I remind some to turn them on within the first moments of the commute. Those who do not want to will start to negotiate a higher fare, and at that moment we can either reach a happy agreement or I'll ask him to pull over to exit. If at all possible, avoid traveling during rush hours and inclement weather to minimise these experiences.

I was in Manila a couple months ago for work. I have been meaning to post but kept forgetting. In general, I like Manila (this was my first time there). Filipinos are very nice and I find Filipinos quite attractive. The food isn't bad but is generally unhealthy.

Saturday.

Had the weekend to myself and Saturday night went to Burgos St. Bottoms bar. Arrived at 10 PM on a Saturday and was expecting it to be busy. Not at all. There were a handful of guys and many many ladies. The mama showed up and pulled over literally the hottest girl in the place.

Short hair, big eyes, sexy pouty lips and a curvy body. I think her name was Mina but it is blurry at this point. Hard to communicate as it was loud and her English was spotty for a Filipino. When I negotiate an up-fare I usually do not tip anything additional.

One day, I tried to catch a taxi from Makati to Quezon City. No less than 4 drivers said no. Finally, the 5th one seemed eager for business but asked how much I would give him. I replied how much do you want? I liked his answer and off we went. This half hour trip ended up being 1. 5 hours, and it was brutal. That's when I understood what these poor folks have to deal with. Felt so lucky that I did not have to make a living that way.

On the way back, the same story but this time I was prepared and negotiated better.

While many the girls are kind of well used there, there are also FL are in Manila waiting for their USA visa. Due to proximity to USA Embassy, many of them stay in hotels paid by their sponsors. In a drunken state I ordered a Mercedes Benz S300 picking me up from New World Manila Bay hotel, driving me to Shangri la Makati. You go as fast (or slow I might say) as a regular car but you have a car with beer. That counts in my book. All this for the net sum of 5555 pisos (I am not kidding about the numbers, only the beers). The fun part when booking was they told me the price was 2500 ish pisos. But I got an e-mail correcting bcs they thought it was from the NW Makati. Fuck, that's almost walking distance (I know I never pay that kind of cash for a couple of hundred meters). The booking excecutive told me that was not new to them. I haggled the price though and got it down to 4250 pisos. Arrive in style.
