No notable post-debate bump for Trump
It seems most Americans are about as fine with a verbally weak truth-teller with a superior record of results as POTUS as they are disturbed by a fast-talking liar with the worst record of results in history as a so-called potus after the 1st debate as they were before it:
The first polls released after Thursdays presidential debatecharacterized by a rocky performance by President Joe Bidenshow an increasing number of Americans believe the 81-year-old president is too old and should drop out of the race, though at least two polls found Biden still maintains a narrow edge over former President Donald Trump.
..........
Despite voters worries, the debate hasnt dented Bidens standing against Trump yet, with most surveys still showing a neck-and-neck race. Biden actually gained some ground according to Ipsos polling: Trump and Biden were tied 44%-44% before the debate, but Biden took a 46%-44% lead afterwards.
Morning Consults polling delivered a similar result: Biden was tied with Trump 44%-44% before the debate, and Biden led Trump 45%-44% afterwards. According to FiveThirtyEights weighted polling average, however, Trump remains on top by a small margin, with 41.3% of voters supporting him over 40.7% for Biden.
Often, these post-debate bumps, even notable ones, fade after a week or two. It remains to be seen how long weak bumps like this one will last.
Either way, as Allan Lichtman's keys to the presidency have shown time and time again, debate performances and declared "winners" of these relatively meaningless quiz shows have zero predictive value with regard to election outcomes.
After all, Trump is still out there lying his ass off with virtually every sentence that comes out of his pie-hole, he is still only able to brag about giving permanent tax cuts to millionaires and billionaires, brag about setting in motion the outlawing of Sex For Pleasure in America while he cries and whines about being picked on so much, how much America SUCKS and so on.
Meanwhile, Biden is out there demonstrating that when he is not bombarded by a firehose of blatant lies from a former so-called potus on a televised quiz show, (and now that his cold has passed and he is no longer taking medication for it) his voice is sure and strong, he has vigor, energy and a totally cognitively competent grasp of the facts, the superior policies and plans to Make a Great America Even Greater.
Voters can't help but notice that.
I'm not you Elvis. I never obscure, ignore or bend the truth to conform to my faith.

"A rabbi's critically ill son needs to get from NYC to California for specialty care. No airlines will fly him. The generous man uses his private jet to fly the child. "
Another accurate description, which we addressed at greater length in a 2015 fact check. In July 1988, the Ten family needed to travel to New York for urgent medical treatment for their three-year-old son Andrew Ten, who had a rare respiratory condition. Because Andrew required the constant aid of a respirator and life support machine but commercial airlines could not accommodate that equipment, the family could not travel to New York on a conventional flight.
The boy's father, Harold Ten, an orthodox Jewish rabbi, contacted Trump to ask for the use of his private jet, and the property magnate agreed without hesitation, according to a contemporaneous report by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency:
Asked why he thought Trump made his private jet available, Ten replied, "Because he is a good man. He has three children of his own and he knows what being a parent is all about. " Ten said he believes that Trump fulfilled the Talmudic saying that "he who saves one person's life is as if he saved the entire world. "
Among the relatives at the airport to greet the child and his parents were the paternal grandparents of the sick boy. "Donald Trump is a miracle, just a miracle," said grandmother Feigy Ten, who came to the airport with her husband, Phillip Ten. Both grandparents thanked Trump's generosity over and over again.
And Xpartan, I know how you will react. Yeah, that is not true. Trump would splash you with his car if you needed a ride. Ha ha ha!
This is one of those liberal fact checkers that did the story, but that will not matter to you. You believe what you do and find facts to support your belief instead of looking for truth.
Why? I performed a quick Google check, found reliable sources that had reported on this story and found it to be true. Nothing easier.
The question (which is not really a question) is why you and your comrades in arms are incapable of mastering the same simple procedure.
Still, that was your 1998 Trump. The 2024 Trump would totally splash you with a poodle, LOL.
P.S. Wasn't he a Democrat around that time, BTW?
Election 2024 for President Biden, completing the Trifecta!
The Trifecta:
First, it was in 1992, that ex-President Bill Clinton, who was down in "the polls" to Ross Perot (and George Bush), by double-digits (15) points and was seen to be running a losing campaign and calls went out for him to be replaced.
Second, it was then in 2016, that ex-President Donald J. Trump, who was caught on tape in an Access Hollywood scandal, saying,
"I just start kissing them. It's like a magnet. Just kiss. I don't even wait. And when you've a star they let you do it..." and then goes on to say "You can do anything...grab them by the pussy"
Repubs were all declaring, they couldn't with good conscience, "look their daughters in the eye" and vote for or back a "pussy grabbing" president and the calls went out for Trump to step-aside. {...yet lo and behold!}
Third, now comes President Joe Biden, who didn't perform his best, in an otherwise meaningless 2024 debate, but fared better than his lying predecessor, and is still even or better than a coin-flip in the "the polls", given his age and slightly poorer than usual debate performance, and there are calls for him to step-down.
What does this trifecta, all have in common?:
Well, despite being eviscerated by their respective parties, MSM and campaign donors, due to their constant bemoaning of cries to step-down, premature Pollyanna gyrations and failures in "the polls", or the "pussy grabbing" sexual abuse of women and their rights, or the age related minor slippage in a debating performance, has only meant one thing, when the respective presumptive nominee, STAYS THE COURSE....
All have (or will) gone on, to win the presidential election. It will be no different for a Joe Biden WIN in 2024, completing the trifecta and proving the naysayers and detractors...WRONG!
All recent evidence is conclusive
At the Presidential Debate Quiz Show, I saw President Joe Biden walk, I heard him talk, I heard him put more than 2 words together, knew who he was and where he was. And I saw the verbal flubs. A couple of big ones.
However, anyone who watched and heard Joe Biden respond to having been crowned King Biden by the 6 Wingers on the SCOTUS today as well as his recent campaign speech, his SOTU Address along with a slew of other recent examples, saw and heard conclusive evidence of this inarguable conclusion; President Joe Biden does not suffer from cognitive impairment or incapacity.
No one has yet explained how and why this supposed cognitive "impairment" or "incapacity" miraculously vanishes when Biden crafts complex policies, writes, contributes to, edits, approves and then delivers a prepared presentation in a speech, albeit scrolling up on a teleprompter, in a State of the Union Address, an appearance before Congress or foreign dignitaries, and does so with obvious complete understanding of every word, phrase, sentence and, most important, concept, with all the proper emphasis and inflection to convey those concepts to everyone in the room.
Not to mention he can and does that to this very day better, more naturally and with fewer glitches and occasional bobbles than Trump, who often comes up with total gobbledygook and words that don't exist even when reading it.
There is also no evidence of Biden having this stuttering-related issue in one-on-one or small group conversations, even those being audio / video recorded, as in the case of his recent 75 minute Howard Stern interview.
Biden clearly has an on-the-fly public oratory stuttering problem that occasionally manifests itself embarrasingly only under certain circumstances during, say, a Presidential Debate Quiz Show, not a cognitive capacity problem. That has virtually nothing to do with the way a president contemplates, is advised, advises, makes decisions or presents those decisions to the public and anyone else who needs to hear and understand them.
Being better at the former comes in handy if you want to deliver an impromptu 20 minute rant on death by electrocution vs being eaten by a shark. Being better at the latter comes in handy if you want to promote and pass historic, often bi-partisan legislation that, for just one example, has created more jobs than all three and working on all four of the previous Republican presidents combined in just his 1st term as President.
Trump's only debate ability
Everyone noticed the flurry of lies coming out of Trump's pie hole at the Presidential Debate Quiz Show. It was no different from what we have all been hearing coming out of his pie hole since 2015.
But at this quiz show he kept coming back to a few favorite Trump Big Lies regarding Immigration, crime, the economy under him vs Biden, etc. I suspect because, even though he knows his only way to survive the kind of "Trump policy" scrutiny the debate threatened to provide required him to use the Gish Gallop technique, it was much easier for him to simply keep repeating a few favorite Trump Lies over and over again rather than come up with a variety of new ones for every question and response.
And, of course, he and his handlers knew that was an especially effective technique to use against a stutterer opponent. I also suspect he knows Biden will be much more prepared for it next time. If Trump is willing to risk a next time.
What Is Gish Gallop and What Does It Have To Do With Thursdays Debate?
I learned a new phrase this week: Gish gallop. Thank you, Dr. Heather Cox Richardson.
In her June 27 Letters from an American, she recapped that nights first Presidential debate between Democratic President Joe Biden and Republican ex-President Donald Trump, and in it she introduced her readers to Gish gallop:
"This was not a debate. It was Trump using a technique that actually has a formal name, the Gish gallop, although I suspect he comes by it naturally. Its a rhetorical technique in which someone throws out a fast string of lies, non-sequiturs, and specious arguments, so many that it is impossible to fact-check or rebut them in the amount of time it took to say them. Trying to figure out how to respond makes the opponent look confused, because they dont know where to start grappling with the flood that has just hit them.
It is a form of gaslighting, and it is especially effective on someone with a stutter, as Biden has. It is similar to what Trump did to Biden during a debate in 2020.
In that case, though, the lack of muting on the mics left Biden simply saying: Will you shut up, man? a comment that resonated with the audience. Giving Biden the enforced space to answer by killing the mic of the person not speaking tonight actually made the technique more effective."
..........
So while I was unfamiliar with the term Gish gallop, I was familiar with the technique. A Republican colleague used to spew a stream of arguments at me, non-stop, then ask a question, and not allow my response but, instead, talked over me as I tried to answer. It clutters the mind, especially for someone like me who can respond much better with the written word than a verbal response.
I suspect Joes speech issues may have had him in the same spot. You have two minutes to respond do you rebut the lies or try to explain policy?
Gish gallop. Got it. Thanks, Heather!
