An increase in cost of 100% over the past 5 yrs when you take the currency into account. From his post his main reason for saying "fuck it" was because there was a $15 difference in the price. His comments were 2000 from them and he offered 1500 and they would not bite. That is about $60 compared to $45 from my calculation.
It sounded like he invested some time, going from place to place. That even makes it more of a waste.
Like I said, I don't go into the places anymore. But, if I did and invested my afternoon, I would not let $15 get in my way.

After that it was a race to see how many bars he could acquire, how much neon he could put up, and how much he could charge for a beer. He even has "bait" girls that don't go with customers. Most of the other bar owners followed suit and now have the place turned into Disneyland.

GS[/QUOTE]It's been reported that beers in the Arab's bars have increased to 180 baht. 180 baht for a beer! That's $6. 00! I've had cheaper drops in the bars of Singapore and South Korea. And you're right, all of his bars have "bait" (coyote) girls who won't go with customers but are happy to have naive tourists buy them drink after drink without telling them that they have no intention of going with them. Even Tilac, which used to be one of the best bars on the soi, has gone this way; last time I was in there loads of coyote girls littered the stage while the regulars were looking old and tired.
A few months ago, Stickman wrote in his column that in a few years, the bars of Nana and Cowboy will have nothing but coyote girls who will not go with customers unless they pay very very high prices. I hope this doesn't happen, but I won't be surprise when it does.

Check out post #14788 for a more accurate calculation (forget the ST hotel but drinks are going to be more).
Used to frequent myself there quite a bit when Marc ran the place but have not been back there for guess over a year. Now fidning myself travelling to Bangkok for a week and thought I would give it a whirl again but it seems to have gone of the radar a bit.
The girls themselves were a bit past their use by date but always charming and whilst some people criticise that it was perfunctory or routine I always found it very professional, I liked that the girls knew what they were doing and it all done pat, that 90 minutes goes very fast.
Not a big fan of the massage joints but again for nostalgia could give SOL a belt.
