I was just doing renovations to one of my houses and just saying this is too much, still too much, maybe I will do it next time has allowed me to save 30% based on the original quotes. Negotiating is a life skill.

Tipping is a dumb American thing. Research the history of it. I think it was around the Great Depression that restaurant owners found a way to trick American customers into paying their staff, instead of the owners paying them themselves.

Most cultures pay the price of what something costs. Why do Americans feel the need to pay more than what something costs? Because they have been trained that way.

The only time I tip in DR is maybe so I don't have to wait un line.

A good example is going to Playa Chiquita when it's full. I never wait in line. I will just go to the front of the line and add 50 pesos on top. Same thing for getting a drink, on a busy night you can wait 5 to 10 min to just get a drink. If they know you will tip all you have to do is give the money to whover is the cashier and you will get your drink right away. I do that in DR very often and I do the same in US.
