Long-term supply arrangements should lead to price lower than spot transactions, however looming cash crisis (like low cash balance and rent or car payment in few days) create spot ST opportunities at times. And substantially elevated asking price actually often means seller not really interested to sell to the particular buyer. Recall buying jeans in Silk Market in Beijing where asking price was close to 10 times of the actual sales price (for locals who knew the market), tourists paid somewhere in-between based on their knowledge of market, affordability, and interest to participate the haggling. Very different price spread.
