Because traffic is so horrible, your best bet is to learn how to use the airport sky train (BTS). The simplest is to simply take the train from the airport to e.g. , Makkasan station (half an hour or so).

I do not live in Thailand but I have used FWIFANS / Sideline and gone to the GoGos quite a bit. So pro to Fwifans is like you said it's cheaper but their appearance in real life compared to the photos is a total crapshoot.
