Flying out of LAX I normally take Singapore Airlines or EVA Air. In both cases the trip takes more than 24 hours.

You are correct. But the point is still valid for other reasons. It is shorter time flying to the East than the West.

I still don't know how one judges Service in determining a 1st time encounter.

I live in Houston so flying to Bangkok going East or West is about the same time. The distance is not the same though. It is a longer distance going East, but the earth rotation is to the West and that is why the time is the same. It works against you when you come back. Unless you just keep going East and make it an around the world trip.

So, it looks like plenty of folks here have solidly dispelled any assertion that you have to fly across the Pacific to get to Thailand. You can go across the Atlantic too and get there in about the same amount of time, and often for a better price. It's been awhile, so I don't remember the exact cost, but I got a great deal on Qatar Airways, which is one of the world's few 5-star carriers.

Posts: 75Especially as there are no direct flights from US to Bangkok, so a transfer is necessary if going trans-Pacific.

Posts: 18757No they don't. There are tons of routes to take to Thailand from the USA. England, France, Italy, Qatar, Dubai, India, Sweden, the list goes on. From the east coast of the USA it takes the same time to travel to Thailand across the Atlantic as it does across the Pacific.

From the east coast you can also take Emirates with a plane change in Dubai and Qatar Airways with a plane change in Doha then onward to Bangkok (did this one myself).

Posts: 1702I flew from BKK directly to CRK for $88 one way on Cebu Airlines. That's a good option. Going through customs was a breeze. Take the blue taxi from the airport. Avoid the white ones.
