Just read the visa exempt stamp will increase from 30 to 60 days effective June 1. May need to change my travel dates to Thailand to take advantage of this.

Posts: 18757After umpteen years I finally hear one of these stories. 18 year old Thai Friendly chick who is new to Pattaya just came over. She is temporarily staying with her friend and the girl's Thai boyfriend. She said he works in a host bar. The girl works in a beer bar and is supported by a foreigner. My girl said he is either from Denmark or Australia and lives here. He bought her a car and is going to build a house for her. I said the guy has never tried to come to her room? She also said the guy has many girls. She saw him on a motorbike yesterday with a girl hugged up on him. I said maybe he is driving Bolt.

She confessed to calling Bolt though because she really was not sure where I was located. Bolt probably looked at her like she was crazy. I did that same shit when I first started going to Brazil. Took a taxi to an address that was right across the street from the spot I caught it from.

Posts: 5457A freelancer who comes to my condo once in a while to drink has started posting on Facebook complaining I don't love her anymore. Ignoring the fact that I am in Mexico, she is probably frustrated that I don't invite her to come drink.
It's a common ploy for bar girls to claim they "love" some customer, but I do have a small apprehension that this one is crazy.
Last year, she popped out a baby from some Chinese customer. The baby went to the village, and the Chinese guy is allegedly sending money. How she could prove the Chinese guy is the father, I have no idea how that works.
Maybe she is working on Baby Daddy #2 with me. That would piss off a lot of other bar girls.

Posts: 6804Thanks guys I know nothing about this stuff since it doesn't apply to me. As for the above statement aren't we already allowed to stay in Thailand 180 days per year? I guess this new option is 180 days continuously? For me 180 days continuously is boring. Doing Visa runs to other monger destinations monthly is more fun. I'm not sure if I'll ever move back to Thailand. The bar scene isn't the same as it once was.

If the sponsor sends large money, there is the expectation that the bar girl will stop work, and maybe go back to the village.
In return, the sponsor gets. Nothing.
There are variations of the above. One lady has a sponsor who lives in Pattaya and gives 30,000 baht a month. The bar girl sees him a few days per month, and otherwise, lives with her Thai husband. She went to Kazakhstan with me for 2 weeks recently, told her sponsor some story.
Some sponsors convince themselves that they are the boyfriend. These are men who are not 100% with the program, and are awkward around women. They message the bar girl constantly, a major irritant for the bar girl.
Never give money to a bar girl if you aren't there, as it provides a financial incentive for her not to want to see you.

Posts: 7745The definition of "tax resident" in Thailand is if you spend 180 days or more in Thailand you are considered a "Tax Resident". If you have income over a certain level derived by sources in Thailand you may be subject to tax on that income even if you are not a "tax resident". Of course all of this depends upon your personal tax situation.

Posts: 98This new tax interpretation was announced last year, so has nothing to do with the latest Visa situation. Also the new DTV Visa only allows you to stay for 180 days per year with one option in 5 years to extend an additional 180 days. So not really an option if retired and living in Thailand year round.

Posts: 7970I agree with you on that Tax Resident issue
I agree. However, it being Thailand I suspect I will not really know what is meant by "tax resident" until I am sitting across from the Immigration Officer wielding the O-A Long Stay (Retirement) Visa stamp and she tells me whether I need to pay Thai taxes or not in order to get the ink on it stamped into my passport. Even if I have been given expert, professional, paid advice about it beforehand, whatever that Immigration Officer was told about it that morning will prevail.

Which does not sound like something the Thai Government is all that fired up to do in the near future.

Posts: 7745The Cmdr Speaks about Tax Law in Thailand
Has nothing to do with being a expat. It has everything to do with tax law in Thailand and if you are a tax resident of Thailand. Being a Digital Nomad is not going to keep you from paying taxes if you fulfill the requirement to be a tax resident. As for the ease of getting the immigration status you desire I do not know. Individuals should seek counsel from trained Thai professionals if they need assistance with either taxation in Thailand or Immigration issues.

I read a headline that expats will need to start paying taxes in 2025. I'm guessing this is tied into the other new announcement that digital nomads will be allowed to stay in Thailand for extended periods. Guys had been saying they will just switch their occupation from Retired to Digital Nomad since it seems to be a much easier way to stay long term in Thailand.

Posts: 211Its so facinating some westreners lonely guys, or Koreans / Japns send this girls money for no reason.
A girl I regularly talk from TF sends me screen shots always that her online friend / boyfriend sent her money for no damn reason.
They just want to hear good morning, good night and just someone keep talking to them.

Posts: 5457I have five or so bar girls from my rotation who are now back in the village because some lonely guy is giving them money for nothing. When the lonely guy runs out of money, the ladies will come back.

And then there are ladies with minor sponsors, guys who send small amounts on an irregular basis. Sometimes that means that a bar girl will sleep in my condo rather than head out at midnight to secure another customer.

Posts: 7745The Cmdr offers another alternative view
All this talk about bar girl this and bar girl that. Be men. Speak direct. Call them what they are. Prostitutes. Girls that you hire for companionship / sex or both. Does not matter where you find them they all are providing the same basic services.
That being said I have not found a prostitute that wants to anything other than earn her money and go spend it else where. The prostitutes that seek me out for return visits are good business people. Smart marketing. They do no ask me for money. They ask if they have more business with me. I cannot hate on someone trying to make their money.
The only girls that ask me for money have been from Bangkok. They have never met me and when I tell them they can com to Pattaya and have sex with me they are quick to claim they are not prostitutes. Nope, they are just quick to ask a stranger for money. I have only met one girl who was into me for the sex. No money other than her travel and the entertainment expenses for what I wanted to do while she was with me.
I personally do not understand all this talk about sponsorship and the draining of wallets. Maybe it happens. Maybe it does not. I do not know of one simple person that has a problem similar to what has been described here. It is like some ISG urban or YouTube legion. A friend of a friend of a friend. WTF?
