So does Spanish help in that type of situation? I don't know but it sure can't hurt.
That does not change the fact that you would be robbed regardless. I think that is his point.

What if you are like me and speak Spanish but do not carry a wallet?

Look at some of the snatch and grab youtube videos where they walk in with a gun into a resto in the middle of the day.

I think LIH is more right than wrong.

One can look at this another way. Based on what have been said, you would be more likely to engage with someone who try to talk to you because you understand the language. That can be dangerous, there is a reason some try to avoid talking to locals in El Centro who try to engage you in a conversation in English to get close to you. I now avoid standing by the curb waiting for traffic light to change. The reason is I read about a guy who was robbed by moto when he was waiting to cross the street to Poblado metro station. They just stopped and pointed a gun at you and didn't care about the crowd present.

The best defense is to know the area and do not need map. I have past thru this area day and night too. I don't speak Spanish but I know the streets very well by now and I don't have to stop to think where I should go.

Criminals don't think like you, otherwise they won't be criminals, especially we are not talking about US. There was a video of someone being executed in close range in front of the a popular club Dubai. This is not the only one. The club is on Calle 10 and is is now renamed to something else. There are videos that the girls are fighting with the police in Parque Lleras. Many criminals don't care about IDs, or evidence based all these videos floating around. Sometimes the safest area is where the criminals do their business and control the street.

The attached image is started by a post by someone leaving a concert and was robbed by a taxi because there was no Uber around. This type of incident is not the first time and is predicable.

I remember a girl tried to steal a wallet from an old man in front of the church across the street from Mercedes Parque with tons of people around in Cucucta. Luckily she failed. No conversation. Pretty sure he only spoke Spanish. I only see Spanish could help if there is a misunderstanding and the guy wants to fight you and you pay him off or something.

Someone please give me an example of Spanish being the saving grace of being mugged. Somehow you begged in Spanish or gave them a sob story and they walked away. Or better yet gave you money.
There is no panacea for avoiding getting robbed but there are ways to help reduce the chance. When you speak Spanish, you can ask simple directions from folks and they can tell you where not to go and which streets to avoid. Truthfully, it's more about how you "pass" in an environment. Foreigners, in non-tourist areas (where the police aren't present to generally protect them), are easier targets because they will be less likely to properly report their situation to the police. Knowing Spanish isn't really going to help a super pale, redhead gringo pass no matter their ability, but showing some level of expertise does dissuade them since there will be better targets. Being younger or more fit will help. When you speak Spanish, the thieves that are scoping you and following you will perceive you as slightly more capable than the English-only gringo who is wandering around like a chicken with their head cut off. It's standard advice for any country when you're a foreigner.

Thieves and criminals are not particularly brave and they are looking for least risk to their muggings. Give yourself the best chance to avoid it by stacking up negatives to taking a run at you. It's like the old adage of a lost sheep; Is a wolf going to go after the herd of sheep or pick off the one that is walking around aimlessly by themselves?

Because you could tell him you don't have shit to steal. Soy pobre, no tengo nada. Shit like that. Keep a 5 mil in your front pocket pull that out and be like "esto es todo lo que tengo" maybe they'll believe you more than if you said it in English looking like a gringo.

Maybe it's less a case of Spanish saving your butt, than a case of English making you a target. But I can tell you jail is a lot easier to navigate if you speak Spanish. As is being in the emergency room with an incoherently drunk chica.

Are you sure it was just a good normal massage. Did you see the female menu? Maybe she is also telling her friends why the girls were all giggling when you left.

Seriously. You have more balls than I ever had when I was married. Thanks for the report!!

Thank you! Definitely on the list. Looking at pics of Louton, Mansion, and Zandaly, I am fine spending the 400 K.

El Centro is a good place to visit while you are here.
Now I will add to this though that as Nounce mentioned, Prado is a different animal. I would not recommend any of you guys to go north of Hotel Nutibara. I've gone up there many times day and night to catch my bus back to my barrio but I have seen locals fall victim to snatch and grabs by Venezuelans, also lots of drug dealers out and about, lots of stolen stuff being sold there too (although I did get a nice suitcase there for 40 mil once). But I wouldn't recommend anyone without Spanish abilities and some previous experience to go north of hotel Nutibara all the way to like hospital station. That area in particular is very sketchy.

Massage and extras in laureles. Varua Spa

This massage place offers extras: varua spa: CL 44 A #70-98, Laureles. Estadio, Medellin, Laureles, Medellin, Antioquia, Colombia.

My last post asked about Sunday morning and as I expected it was not going to happen and since I am with an SO it was doubtful I'd get a go at all. Went here for a joint massaged. They asked if we want separate rooms and my SO said whatever so we went to different rooms, me far on down the hall so we could be discrete. There were 3 to 4 girls working. I was in love with this dark skinned girl but I think the senior woman gets to pick. All were young, under 25 and they all were cute. We got a 90 minute massage for about $210 k each. Lace was very clean and they offered showers.

They all wore nurse like outfits so I had no idea what was hiding under their clothes. Back work was great. Flipped and some light work and then her phone comes out with a menus of nude or nonnude sexual pleasure, so I think $100 k for nude happy ending. Cash or PayPal. Sure! The outfit came off and holy shit this chick had a banging body, a little tiny stomach but really just a curvy hot body, but massive see+ tits all natural. Opted for full sexo no beso, no DATY, CBJ, for 300 k. She let me FIV and finger banged her. I know that might be a lot but considering all things it was $80 all in and worth it considering my issues; they were giggling like a gaggle of hens as we left but my SO had no idea.

My SO was disappointed and didn't want to come back as it was supposed to be a sport massage and it was just a good normal massage.

    Parque Lleras, things are evolving

It seems 100 USD or 400 mil is the standard opening price for most and some offered 250 directly. There is definitely a dual pricing going on. Just a few examples, one messaged me that we could leave at 12 for 250 when it was about 11, another one texted me right after we met to offer 250 to come to my place at 8 PM the next day before she goes to work in LLeras. We know some girls do that. So if you really want something fresh, get her the next day as the first customer and it maybe even cheaper. LOL. All you have to do is let her know you are not a tourist then some will come down even the same day. Keep in mind that these prices are offered to me without a real negotiation.

There are a couple of little people working. I saw a blonde one the first time a few weeks ago. The next time I saw one more with her so I think they are working.

More girls are trying to speak English but most of them are not conversational. The girls on average are on the older side compared to the age of FB girls that was mentioned here. I wonder why? Many are from Bello. I had a taxi driver who also tried to speak English to me to strike up a conversation.

I also met a couple of girls offered 30 minutes price for 200 and 250.

In some aspects, Lleras is becoming like El Centro.

It appeared the city is trying to make Plaza Botero to be more like Provanza. I saw there are a few girls dressed in more formal dress. Some have price to match as well if you want to take them back to your apartment.

There are just one snapshot from me. You need to take into account views from others as well.

Mansion doesn't look much better, but at least it has a clear sign, and it is closer to Poblado. If there are any other casas with a decent number of chicas where I can plan on a sure thing I would appreciate the help. I am not demanding, but I need a clean room with a decent bed, and a place where I can at least find the sign. I'm not price-shopping; as I said, I like a large selection of readily available ladies.

I will probably do some touring in centro, and may accidentally pick up a chica, but I don't really see the advantage of centro versus Lleras. If there are nearby casas worth visiting, please feel free to name them.

It seems like Medellin is a pretty easy city to have a good time if you show common sense, stay in the areas you know, and don't get shit-faced or obnoxious. Any thoughts or ideas for other entertainment outlets are welcome. When I have firm dates I will post and offer to buy drinks for any locals who want to get together. J1 M.

    Parque Berrío

Use Parque Berro as a divider, there will be more danger, the further you go toward north, toward the Prado station. To the south all the way past the San Anotonio station is the largest shopping area. It is safer than the north since there is little drugs and no prostitutes. You can find things that you can't find elsewhere. The small businesses also shop here so many business here are more like wholesaler. Some specialty stores also offer personal shopper that you will get a sale assigned to you while shopping. Basically it offers a more personalized shopping experience.
