It's amazing how these same debates keep recycling. It would seem most would rather take what they can use from them and move on. In my experience the hotter they are, the more attitude and restrictions. I can often get a read on that sitting at home working FB. There's of course exceptions but it takes work finding them.

Actually, Villainy, the government equivalent of a 401 (k) is a 403 (b). 457's are supplemental plans over and above the limits for 403 plans. You can actually put 100% of your salary in a 457 and I did this one year while working two jobs at once.

The Yew Ess educational system does a poor job of addressing financial literacy and many people who are well educated and have higher / advanced degrees don't know squat about investing, time value of money, tax planning, etc. Few college majors require even a basic finance course. I think 403 (b) plans are for private non-profit employees and public school employees whereas 457 plans are for State and Local government employees.

I always said that you could not read. What I said (and meant) is that there are real difficulties renting an apartment in Colombia as a foreigner. The real estate market for rentals can be a panoply of rules, regulations and requirements to navigate. You were talking about having rented your apartment long before I rented mine. If you rented directly from an owner it was probably easy. If you went through an 'inmobiliaria' you would know about some of the difficulties that exist.
