Things are much more transactional these days, but I understand and sympathize as there are clearly more and more guys who don't pay the agreed amount or worse try to skate without paying at all. Just last week I had a Thai street pickup insist upon payment in advance. This is something I never do, but the happy compromise I provide is to show the money and place it on the dresser for the girl's comfort. If she insists on pocketing the money first, I will cancel. This process has worked every time to prevent standoff situations. She knows I can pay and she knows that I expect her to play. Win win.

It's not about being Thai, or acting Thai. As I said, it's about how you vibe with a particular girl, and there are dozens of posts on here about why guys had an especially good or especially bad time.
