Posts: 133I think they get profiled as 1- US passport, 2- entry stamps to Colombia, 3- Purpose of the visit, assuming he is not flagged on any list. I remembered the family right next to me got pulled aside and they were checking their itinerary and where they were staying, but again they took a a bit longer to understand what the agent was asking for. I believe knowing Spanish and being clear of your purpose would help a lot.

Posts: 2018Of course. The foreigners (mostly Americans) acting like idiots stick out too much and have really pissed off locals. It doesn't matter that the activity is legal in Colombia. The locals are pissed off and the authorities are trying to look like they're doing something.

And that's part of the reason so many of us go to MDE vs Bogota. This weather is better, little or no altitude adjustment, and it's just a nicer city.

Posts: 1732I guess the argument for Spirit is that they helped lower prices in certain markets. For people that didn't like them, they probably just avoided them and flew with another airline.

I know some folks are upset about the demise of Spirit. Will be interesting to see if another airline steps in and fills the void for direct flights from Florida to Medellin. I doubt less flights, in and of itself, will decrease the demand but it may decrease the people flying directly into Medellin from Florida.

I always go through Bogota. They always put the entry stamps together on the same page and following pages when full. Last year the customer officer looked at the stamps and questioned me how come I enter Colombia so many times. I pointed out that it's about 3 times per year, different things to see, vacations. No other questions nor screenings, but I have moved away from traveling as often to Colombia, mix things up and not be an easy target. It really depends on the customs agent, but they are told to look for single males or males in groups, and number of trips. That is assuming your name is not already on some watch list.

Posts: 1286That is a LOT of venues he's got listed there! But there must be a reason why we pretty well never read about them. I'm sure that some of them are still open since the locals need to go somewhere but it's just strange that these are just never mentioned anymore. I'm not so sure I would want to be a test subject to go down there and try to look for all these if there's no reliable recent intel.

So a single, American male traveling to Colombia = a "sex predator"? And other than his name appearing on an Angel Watch Center search, how do they prove that with certainty? By the fact that he has condoms, lube, and "toys" in his luggage? Prostitution between consenting adults in Colombia is legal! That video is pure grade, propagandistic bullshit to make it look like they're cracking down on illegal activity when we know that what they're mostly doing is harassing innocent people going to Colombia to have a legally good time.

Posts: 1005As a comparison on Photoprepagos site Bogota zonas versus Antioquia zonas of the number of current women available is 362 to 50. Population is roughly 11.7 to 2.5 million. Guys are idiots thinking there is more in Medellin than Bogota.

But I just hate the cold too much to return. Had to wear pants and jackets most all day everyday. Only 4 hours on a sunny day I could wear shorts. If it is windy you need a coat. I have no idea how those women could stand for hours in the cold wearing so little amount of clothes at Santa Fe. A true miracle.

Posts: 4496I think your advice is good. It's also basic, applies to any destination, and it is nothing new. The fact that there are apparently more than a few guys coming here who don't understand these things speaks volumes about how many goobers there are in the general public and how mainstream Medellin has become. I'm grateful for Parque Lleras because it's ground zero for the frat boy nation. It contains them and makes them easy to avoid. I think it also controls fee inflation because girls have to go to Parque Lleras to get the high fees. I'm convinced it's a big reason I'm still paying what I used to pay pre-pandemic. I'm actually curious about the phenomenon because I enjoy people watching. I won't go near Parque Lleras because I don't want some YouTube dickhead pointing a camera at me and saying whatever bullshit he wants to say to get clicks.

Before COVID there was no question that Bogota had more options. It wasn't even close. I mean, there were whole sections of town that virtually nobody on this site reported on. After COVID things were changed, and I'm not 100% sure what the current state of affairs in Bogota is concerning the mongering scene there. But just have a skim of this report pre-COVID. If Bogota has fully recovered to this, then yes it has far more options to offer than Medellin does (the later being a much smaller city). It could be even only recovery to a percentage of this and still offer more than Medellin. Again, Bogota is not just Santa Fe!

Posts: 1286You think so about Bogota? Even though Medellin has lost The Mansion (which I stayed at twice), it has Centro for the super budget, a few reputable casas, a few reputable strip joints and then of course Parque Lleras. Bogota has Santa Fe (so equivalent to MDE Centro) plus Troya and Paisas for the strip joints there (so equivalent to the ones in MDE) and maybe some casas but I don't think they have anything like Parque Lleras unless I'm missing so key options in Bogota.
