Posts: 199Agreed, but it seems like in SEA the moto drivers feel a karmic duty to try to dodge the pedestrians, while here in MDE they don't seem to care so much.

Posts: 1286This is all normal driving behaviour for motorcycles and scooters in southeast Asia as I'm sure all of us who have ever mongered in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam will agree. At the same time, I have and wouldn't hesitate to take a Grab (Uber equivalent) motobike again next time I'm in Thailand. I haven't taken a motobike Uber in Medellin yet, just cars.

Posts: 199As a pedestrian, what scares me about the motorcycles and scooters is that they treat anything paved or semi-paved as someplace ok to drive. I can't count the times I've almost been hit walking along a sidewalk in Poblado. I'm not nervous about the petty crime here. It's the motos and scooters that scare me.

Posts: 6574You are not a good real estate salesman. Let me help you: you do not have swamp land for sale you have an investment opportunity in a tropical oasis.

You want to see something scary? Be in Sao Paulo, Brazil during rush hour traffic. Those motorcyclist are weaving in and out of massive traffic moving at insane speeds! Every single time I'm sure I'm going to be witness to a terrible road accident.

Posts: 285Riding a motorcycle in Medellíand traffic is the closest you will ever get to experiencing riding in a Ready Player One race.

Posts: 4496The signs show deaths along the road where they are displayed (Las Palmas, La Oriental, autopista regional etc). You would have to add the totals to get the citywide number and you are quite right, that number is very high. The best thing I can say about Colombian drivers is they are not Dominican drivers. I have to talk myself out of getting my own car every other week or so because I'm so sick of their silly and dangerous driving habits.

Posts: 429That's what my driver told me. I wasn't going argue with him. I know a few girls who scars from motorcycles.

Posts: 1108I have some swamp land for sale, and also the Brooklyn Bridge, if you believe that number. Ever ride a motorcycle in MDE? I have. It sucks.

When I was there a few months ago there was an electric bulletin that showed the number of road deaths for the year. It was in the the teens.

Posts: 4496My opinion is giving money to a girl for taxis is obsolete. I feel the same about taxis in general but that's beside the point. I don't always pay for transport. When I do, my practice is to offer a one way or round trip uber or didi. Besides the mostly lower cost vs taxis for the same trips, you don't have to guess when the girl will arrive because you can track the trip real time. I don't see the point in handing over 10,000 or more pesos to girls who sometimes pay a 3,300 peso bus or metro fare and pocket the rest. Just yesterday I had to put my foot down and ban motorcycle trips. One of my regulars showed up in great distress. She told me she nearly died when a panel truck cut off her motorcycle uber. We used to argue about her using motos to beat traffic jam. After the near death experience she now sees it my way.

I tried to explore Carrera 45 on Google Maps ((assume this is La 45?) as it runs through Manrique and I noticed it seems to be pedestrian only or some thing? A lot of the side streets basically get blocked off from letting cars enter by a curb or or metal poles coming out of the ground an the sidewalk does not stop at the side streets either so it makes more since that maybe they put a tram through there or buses?

So if Carrera 45 is La 45 about which Calle does it start and about where does it end?

Posts: 2018Nice! I agree. Unless you live there with time to really nurture these things, getting a legit hottie w / good service for 200 k is quite unlikely.

Of course, if you're young, handsome, and speak Spanish, you might not have to pay at all (at least outside of Poblado). But then you'd have no problem finding hotties to bone for nothing in the US or wherever you're from.
300-400 k for a hot looking chica is about right as long as she does what you want.
