Baloney. The USA is 160th out of 217 countries for air pollution.

Please do not risk your health bicycling in mountains in 45 degree Celsius heat. I enjoy your posts even though I often disagree with them and would prefer you don't die for a long time.

Peace is impossible with war criminal Netanyahou and schizophrene senile Trump. Who started this war?

    Yes GDP is up

GDP is measured quarterly. It was up 2.7% from the 1Q2025, when Trump took office, to 1Q2026, the most recent reported quarter. For the 2Q2026, which will end shortly, the consensus forecast on Bloomberg, from 65 contributors, is 2.5% for the quarter on quarter seasonally adjusted annualized rate. Economists think long term GDP growth will be around 2% or a little lower. So 2.5%+ is pretty good.

That said, GDP growth would have been higher without the tariffs and the second Iran war.

On the other hand, all else being equal, GDP growth would have been lower without Trump's Big Beautiful Bill and probably without deregulation.
Yes you are right GDP is up and Trump economy is gaining steam. Biden regulations and policies destroyed USA economy and Trump is slowly digging us out of the hole that Biden put us in. Once the trillions of dollars of investments infrastructures get completed the GDP will soar even more. 18 months of Republican leaders and USA is well on its way from recovering from the Biden destruction. What a difference 18 months make.

Come to USA and see for yourself. Every Republican state is better off than the democratic states. Oklahoma is ten times better than California and that is why more people leave CA to go to Republican states. Montana, Wyoming, and South Dakota have thousands of California residents moving in. Zero state taxes and cheaper cost of living makes republican states very attractive. It is a shame you are not smart enough to see that.

I beg to disagree on several points SubCmdr. And agree on several as well. On energy, I think your description of the problem would be pretty good for Germany, which was shutoff from Russian gas and needs to upgrade its grid. It's struggling also because it shut down its nuclear power plants, which were a source of 24/7 power.

France on the other hand generates most of its electricity from nuclear, which costs more than natural gas and coal, and for that matter more than solar and wind without battery storage. Retail customers in France pay around $0.24/ kw-HR, compared to $0.18/ kw-HR for the USA, $0.33/ kw-HR for California, and $0.40/ kw-HR for Germany.

So French electricity prices are high but not ridiculously high, like California and Germany. I begrudgingly have to admit to Sirioja that if you want low carbon emissions AND a reliable power system, France hasn't done a bad job.

On the other hand, French gasoline prices are ridiculously high. Before the second Iran war, they were running about $6.95 per gallon in France, compared to $4.40 in California and $2.50 in God's Country (Texas).

Please note that Democrats want to exploit immigrants and Republicans want to ship them home. I think we should exploit them! Not in a bad way though. Putting immigrants to work doing jobs Americans don't want to do is a good idea, for meat processing and agriculture and the like. And if Elvis gets his way, making shoes. The immigrants and the citizens both benefit. It would be far preferable IMO though to have a guest worker program in place of what we have now and had in the past.

The market for oil is worldwide. Normally you can put it on a tanker and ship it 8000 miles for under $1.00 per barrel. Right now with the conflict in Iran it may be more like $3. 00. Which still is low compared to the cost of a barrel of oil. In other words, if you shut off 15% of the world supply by closing the Strait of Hormuz, prices will go up everywhere, including the USA.

I agree that the USA is in a much better position than most places with respect to energy security. It would be in an even better position if Democrats hadn't blocked pipelines and threatened to ban drilling on federal leases and ban fracking everywhere. The progressives like Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders represent an existential threat to the oil and gas industry, and that puts a damper on investment.

I don't live in Oklahoma and haven't spent much time there. From what I've experienced and read, the patch of Texas where I live is better off than most cities and towns controlled by Democrats, in part because of more efficient and less wasteful government. We don't have homeless people on the streets (they're in shelters) and the median income is high. The unemployment rate is low. Hispanics represent the largest share of the population, just a **** hair under 50%, and they vote for Republicans.

    France in total disaster

If you have ac you should confine it to one room and set the thermostat to 79 degrees Fahrenheit. This is from today's WSJ. Meanwhile, the good people at the left-of-center Economist took a model developed by a French researcher and applied it to forecasted temperatures on June 24 to June 26. That indicates there will be 1500 excess deaths from heat in those 3 days in Paris alone! And the death rate should be up about 300%! The Cmdr makes an observation

The Dis United States of America is an excellent place (used to be) to make money. Quality of life by all reports from individuals I trust is that it has declined. Oklahoma run by Republicans is an example.
