​My suggestion to anyone traveling with phones who doesn't want anyone seeing what's on them is to always keep an absolute blank burner phone. Before you leave Colombia, erase the entire phone and set it back to factory default. Make sure you remove any linked Google accounts. You do not want immigration officers to have any more information than they need. I had many problems with immigration in 2022, and for that exact reason, I now make it a rule to travel with two blank phones just in case one is stolen. The day before I return to the US, I take the phone I was using while in Colombia, completely erase it, and set it back to default. This way, when I get back to America and officers want to look at my electronic devices, they can clearly see there is nothing on them at all. I have no idea why they did what they did or why they kept them so long, but what I can tell you is to be vigilant about your habits. I personally would never join a WhatsApp group where women solicit services, especially if you aren't going to be vigilant enough to erase your phone before leaving the country. If they find out that was the reason you were traveling, the US can put a hold on your passport and come up with some crazy charges. Like they told me: when you are in immigration, you are not completely in the United States yet, so they can basically do whatever they choose. This is just a heads-up—it's not to scare anyone, but to tell you to be more vigilant with your practices.
