I'm so glad this rants section exists because I need to talk about this ridiculous story coming out of Bangkok. Really AI? Has anyone ever seen flames do that in a fire? It's like a jet engine. This is obviously AI, and if any of you are actually in Bangkok, you can validate whether this story is true or not. As a matter of fact, the AI is so good it tricked Canadian news in reporting it as true.

I think what we are seeing is a fire that is on the ceiling in that restaurant, not a particularly high ceiling, just above that one very narrow entrance / exit door. Consequently, the fire is hungry for oxygen and shooting out of that doorway to find it, so to speak. The same reason they tell you to feel the door or window in a hotel room to make sure it's not hot before you open it when a fire alarm has been triggered. If the fire is on the other side of that door or window, your opening it will cause it to explode into your room for the fresh oxygen supply in it. If you've seen the 1991 movie, Backdraft, there are several examples of it.

It was the acoustic foam on the ceiling that carried most of the fire. Not the walls so much, the floor or even the furniture. Video of the room now still shows most of the tables and chairs intact and not burned to ashes.

The acoustic foam on the ceiling caught fire and spread very quickly. As it melted and dripped onto the patrons inside it carried flames to their head, hair, clothes, etc. And as they ran to that one narrow entrance / exit door they carried fire to the hair and clothes of other patrons in the traffic jam. Same for when they ran to the one emergency exit door in the back of the room, which the owner had padlocked to prevent "dash and dine" customers from dodging payment for their food and drinks. The "kindling" in this particular fire tragedy was mostly the acoustic foam on the ceiling and the human beings inside.

Caveats to my view: I have written quite a bit of negative, but I know its a particular, subjective view of someone coming in over a limited period of time. Those living there, who I invite to rip what I wrote apart where they disagree, will naturally have the benefit of time. Do not need to push every single night. A bad night is irrelevant next to all the others.
When you're me and there on holiday, you try to make each night count as you know you won't be there for very long. Hell, if you live there, if I lived there, I would just keep a network of girls at your beck and call and not bother with the venues that much. I envy those that are able to min and max Pattaya in that way. But for the rest of us mere mortals, where the nights are left to chance, it seems to have become a bit less fun.

Conclusion: fun can still be had, particularly the non-formal route. But I can't help but think and know that you can access that route elsewhere without going to Pattaya as well.

If I were pressed, I would tell people to give Pattaya a pass for now. And that is as someone who has been going for 10 years now. If you do go, be aware what is there now.

I haven't seen anything on YouTube about nightlife in Pattaya that I didn't already know about.
