Even though prostitution is legal and more culturally acceptable in Colombia, there are many there who would rather that it stay out of sight and out of mind (and others who wish that it didn't exist at all).
I don't blame them. It's one thing to make something legal that's been happening for thousands of years. It's a different thing if it's right in your face where you live or where you like to go out to eat.

Ultimately that is the main reason!

If you mean it, make it illegal (but they know it wouldn't work).

Where I live it's legal as well, one could arrive with an extra bag of dildos and another with condoms, customs concern would be more tax fraud when reselling than having dates with escorts and if proven it's for personal purpose, welcome and enjoy. Law is law.
It's completely for show. They don't like being known as a destination for foreign men "sex tourists," whether it's legal or not. The Colombians for the most aren't as obnoxiously visible when partaking in the world's oldest profession. But the foreigners are loud and very visible. Also they push up rents for the natives, which doesn't go over well with many Colombians.

I dare you to show up with a suitcase full of vibrators and lube and explain to the agents that you're not doing anything illegal.

Again, condoms is not the reason for a person's denied entry. They are denied entry before the bags are searched. You do not get your checked bag until after you are let into the country. All bags are put through a scanner after you are granted entry. In the event that you are denied entry, your bag may be searched. They do not know what is in your bag until it is put through the machine after being granted or denied.

It's a political stunt. The Mayor of Medellin tried to run for president off the backs of sex tourists. The real thing people are mad about is the high cost of living and the gentrification. The Homes are owned primarily by Colombians so if they could get mongers scared then the Airbnb super hosts would have to lower prices and rent to locals.

The other reason is bad publicity. They can't stop mongers from getting scoped so better to get rid of the lowest hanging fruit mongers as they are the ones most likely to get scoped.

    Hope this Helps.

    Trip.

    Sore Losers

That prosecution is going to fail because of one simple fact, the defendant didn't delete the data, the federal agent did.

Now the petty fascists are going to have to whine to a judge that they were outsmarted. Fucking nazis.

Some excerpts from the linked Times article for those who can't open it:

Federal prosecutors charged a man returning to the United States with obstruction because he gave them a passcode that erased his smartphone during a customs search.

Federal prosecutors in Atlanta are bringing an obstruction charge against a USA Citizen who gave customs officers what is known as a duress passcode, which activated software that erased the contents of his phone.

The federal statute underlying the charge makes it a felony to destroy evidence or transfer assets to keep the government from seizing them, or to tip someone off about an upcoming search or wiretap. It carries a penalty of up to five years in federal prison, a fine, or both.

Where haven't they locked them up? That still does not stop them from doing what they do.

Colombia's Flower Festival Gets FBI Task Force Security.

    Binational Security Operation.

    Key Facts.

    —.

The Task Force. Medellin and US agencies including the FBI launched Task Force Medellin 2026, operating from 28 July to 10 August.

    —.

The Objective. The binational force targets transnational crime and the protection of children during Colombiamoda and the Feria de las Flores.

    —.

The Tools. Officers will use US systems like Angel Watch and NCMEC to screen foreign nationals in real time at Medellin's airports.

    —.

The Precedent. Arrests linked to sexual abuse and exploitation rose over 1,000% between the 2021-2023 and 2024-2026 periods under the task force model.

    —.

The Local Complement. Over 2,700 national police officers will also deploy across the city for ground-level security during the festivities.

Medellin has integrated US federal agencies into its Feria de las Flores security plan, creating a binational task force to block transnational offenders during Colombia's peak tourism week.

Those of you who like the Colombian experience, here are the rules to keep it fun for you:

Come to Colombia on a two way ticket for however long you have free, enjoy your time to the max and then.

Use your return ticket. Don't try to make more of your whoring than it is, they are not your girlfriends or boyfriends, it is a business for them.

And you should keep it a business for you.

Trust me on this and if you need any clarification, ask some other seniors here. At least the ones who are not in a graveyard.

So ends your expert advice for the day.
It would be best not to treat everyone from a country as "disposable" based on interactions with a specific subset of people from that country.

Treat people as humans and in turn they should treat you the same, will there be some to take advantage? Sure, but YMMV.
