Posts: 759Do families actually go to Colombia? I don't think I've ever seen a family go to Colombia. Its mostly long term mongers, short term mongers, digital nomads and hippie wannabes.

Posts: 759For a while, one thing that set Colombia apart from its neighbors in the region was the low cost of living. If you want to actually LIVE in Colombia, it was a great deal. Decent living at a low cost. All that has changed now though.

Posts: 18757Do you know how many people and places that same thing was thought about? Help in Rio, gone. Doll House in Santo Domingo, gone. Pablo Escobar, gone. Nobody and nothing is too big to be wiped away.

Posts: 664They don't spend more than me per head I'm sure of that. Probably the same for many of us mongers.

Posts: 18757Same shit I said about Sosua. But mongers have on blinders and act like that is normal and how it is supposed to be and think the city can not survive without them. Meanwhile, there are countless normal places without all that going on that somehow manage to survive. Mongers have a very delusional savior complex about themselves.

Posts: 2655The owners of the larger clubs in Lleras are very powerful people and they run the show. Remember the last time the mayor tried to shut things down, it lasted all of a handful of days and things went back to normal. I don't see it changing any time soon, some window dressing and that's it.

Posts: 18757I have found that no matter how much I think a place sucks, the majority of tourists love it and can't wait to go back. Panama and Singapore for instance.

Posts: 1732Another reason why the casas and mongering scene in El Centro were much better back then. But this was also before the gringo invasion. The tipping point hadn't been reached yet. Things were pretty much all in Spanish. No Starbucks, etc. Gringos would go to the Mansion. No youtube creep cam videos. Everyone was more relaxed.

Posts: 607Some of us are old enough to remember when Parque Lleras did not tolerate street prostitution. Early 2000's they would run the girls away and tell them to take that shit in the clubs or to centro. As a developer, I don't see how they let it get like this in the first place.

Posts: 664They have hand held finger print devices now to take your finger prints. Similar to a POS credit card reader.

Posts: 607It squeezes out other tourists, especially families, who spend infinitely more money per head. It's great short-term cash flow, but in the later years, when equity shifts, the hookers and the John's become a nuisance.

Posts: 1307Normal tourists with families, etc. Avoid hotels with a reputation for hosting sex tourism. And why hotels that cater to tourists often have policies to discourage or not allow prostitution. If mommy and kids start noticing things like that it shows up on reviews, etc. Which is why there are laws in many of these countries to try to discourage sex tourism.

Posts: 759I suspect the percentage of tourism that is monger tourism is higher than you would think. Whenever I'm on a flight to Colombia, its mostly colombians and a bunch of dudes. Its not like the country has great beaches. Bogota is a kind of a shit city for tourism, I'm not wandering around looking at the great architecture or history, more likely walking around looking over my shoulder. Medellin, has nice weather, but not much else besides the big rock. Cartagena has a cool old town, but shitty beaches for the most part. So many better places to go for real tourism.
