I plan to go to Colombia in 2027 and had no plans to hang out in Lleras even before this development. So, it's not deterring me. In fact, I hope this does result in cleaning the park up and getting it back to how it used to be when I first started going to Medellin. Things have just gotten out of hand, and the whole scene can benefit by becoming more discreet.

Posts: 86People aren't "dumping" usd, the government does things to strengthen or weaken USD in order to affect global trade and influence foreign investment.

This is economics 101. This is probably solely the reason recession probability is at the lowest it's been in years.

A family is coming and doing what with their money exactly? To a rich international hotel operator? To a large restaurant group? To a museum?
Some of yall are so out of touch with basic economics but that's not surprising, you're the same ones tipping 50% for basic sex them bitching about how much the prices are inflating.

Posts: 82Solution is simple. Don't go to park lleras or centro. Just stary with other venue casa and clubs. All these are occurring due to exploitation by steaming llera park in various social media. Colombia is not a safe country for solo or family tourism as per state department. This is good in a way.. rates will come down. Medellin places will be only for experienced and risk takers..

Posts: 759I've been all over Bogota and stayed at all the nicest hotels the city has to offer. I can confidently say I know the city better than 99% of the mongers on this board and what it has to offer. I've been to Medellin and Cartagena as well, buts its been a while since I've been back. I can believe that local tourism is alive an healthy, who doesn't like to travel? My claim is that wealthy families that would spend a lot of money in Colombia, specifically more money than an average monger would, are *not* coming to Colombia. The original posters claim is that families spend more than mongers per head. I'm saying I don't see a lot of international families. Plenty of domestic and south american families sure.

They're paying about 100 usd per day + food + drinks + dates and accomodations in the higher priced areas of medellin. Thats assuming 1 chica per day at 100usd per chica. A lot do significantly more than that since they are on a time crunch.
I think you're probably right that due to pure volume other types of tourists are spending in aggregate more than the monger type tourists. But monger are definitely on average spending more per head than those tourists.

Posts: 1307Go out to some of the tourist places, Guatape, some of the beach areas on the Caribe, higher end hotels in Bogota, Medellin, Cartagena, etc. There is a huge tourism industry. Not so much in the same areas as mongers hang out, but I think the vast majority of tourist dollars coming in are from that type of tourism, not mongers.

At most, you're in Gustos buying an overpriced bottle and a ***** they won't see a dime of. Even if the frequency of the visitors is lower, they still make more money overall, or PPA, as one would say in the restaurant business. It's not a guess here.

Posts: 607You know how they always say the second owner makes the money in real estate? It's an old adage, but the same shit applies here. They put up with the early years of the note, when a larger portion of the payments goes toward interest. Over the life of the short commercial note, they build equity through principal payments and appreciation. By the time they pay off the note or sell the property, they can be sitting on a cash cow derived from monger income. They let the cash and equity grow to the point where the monger dollar isn't worth the headache anymore. As in Sosúa, the Philippines, Santo Domingo, etc. This shit is rinse and repeat.

Posts: 759Yea, the couples are usually the wannabe hippies. Families from Colombia and other parts of south america don't have spending power that americans do and I think the average monger probably outspends them.
