My overall assessment: Unless you have a few trips to Medellin and plethora of puta passarounds under your belt I would give Medellin and Colombia as a whole a miss for six month months to a year.
I'm not trying to gatekeep Colombia it's a wonderful place and although I'm not a personal fan Medellin a great city and with the new mall, beach / aquapark and tunnel it's going to greater later.
But prices are high because of the lower US Dollar, The strong Peso, More people moving in from Choco because of the earthquake, and the crackdown. You can't go to the Parque and I hear Centro is going through a Mini crackdown so for the meanwhile the sex shopping centers are basically dead. Again I think this is all about non accountability for their ¨excellent cadavers¨ I. E. High profile scopamine victims that they haven't gotten a handle on. Crime is way down in Medellin but so is Gentrification so I expect as less mongers come Medellin criminals will go back to drugging local rich people. Maybe the Airbnb superhosts who jacked up the rents to insane levels. So I would wait for the reset and them to declare victory and move on. The Mayor will probably make another run at the Presidency in two years and if there's a slow down then everyone will move on.
It's been said by expat youtube Colombia simps that sex tourism is very small part of tourism and that maybe be true and untrue at the same time because at the end of the day Meddy is just a random city It doesn't really have many actual tourist attractions The weather while good is not the tropical paradise that people want so like Sosua before it I suspect that if 70% of the mongers stop coming the other tourists will stop coming too and at least that might bring the prices for accommodations down.
Rant over.
Hope this Helps.
Trip.

Posts: 1307Even with security stuff can happen. I think that is the place where someone posted a pic of a guy being taken out in a body bag. Somehow the front desk didn't get the ID of his visitor (s) and he got overdosed on something like scopolamine. He had been down celebrating a birthday I believe. Edit - that might have been Provenza Lofts, but somehow I think there is a connection

Yep People get out of town during the high holidays and the bonus paydays are in June and December people are walking around with a months extra pay on them and robbers and scammers know this.

Posts: 168I don't speak Spanish well still and have been visiting for years. I haven't visited a strip club here since my first trip and don't go to Parque Lleras. I now bring women over to my apartment and party here. A few speak English, most don't, but that's never been an issue. Some of my all time favorites have not spoken English. I had a threesome the other night and we all left happy. Now I personally don't drink alcohol because I bring my own preferences from the US, but I keep liquor for the women who want it. Be smart, don't leave your alcoholic drinks unattended. Scope must be ingested and it can be detected in drinks, that's why they put it in alcohol to mask the taste. And my final rule is don't waste your time with mediocre women. All the suspected women I've seen are not good looking. Hot women don't need to drug men to make money.

Posts: 759I'd add easter week to that. Both times are really bad to come to all of Colombia for mongering purposes. Quantity of women is way down due to people spending time with families.

Posts: 607A group of seven in this environment is asking for trouble. I'the advise staying out of the park as a group, and if you do decide to go out together, head to one of the places recommended, like Fase Dos or La Isla.

Posts: 976The reason for the season
Christmas time is a particulary bad time to come to Medellin. As a lot of people go to the campo and visit family. Additionally that is bonus time and robbers will be around stealing people's boneus payments.
Finally to me Medellin gets a little chilly at night in late December so I'the bring a sweater if I were adamant about going. The Period from December 16 (bonus payday) till January 6 (The official end of the Christmas holidays) is a bad time to go to Medellin especially as a first timer with no Spanish.
If you really wanted to come to Colombia that is the time of the Feria de Cali in Cali Colombia and more people stay in town in Cali. But I'the pick Thailand if you were defenitely planning for a Christmas trip with Kenya being second and Cali being third.
Hope this Helps.

Ummm dude yes be worried. If you go in thinking it will be like Thailand you will be dead before day 3. You don't know spanish or the slang there (rip), want to go hard every night in nightclubs (that will catch up to you), going around Christmas where robberies and petty shit is at an all time high.

Stay away from the dating apps too much BS with them in meddy.
There's some guy that has a spot in meddy I know he is on this forum and he parties hard all the time but he knows the language and has his girls vetted good. As you're going to be first time visitor and no language and what not be very careful. I'd still go if I was you but just be careful man and trust no one.

Posts: 13I definitely wouldn't recommend going if you don't speak any Spanish, unless you plan to go to La Isla / Fase 2 and are fine with passing around google translate. Haven't met a single girl with decent English here.

General statement and just my opinion, if you don't speak Spanish I personally wouldn't recommend coming unless you're into the strip club scene. The police crackdown and the government crackdwon is felt heavily in the park and in the outdoors. They're constantly monitoring the area and it has significantly decreased the quantity / quality of women. The clubs don't seem affected as much. And stay off the apps.

Posts: 488Your biggest problem is rolling alone & not speaking Spanish. You do need to be cautious.

Posts: 33Medellin Nightlife & Dating Safety — Should I Be Worried?
Hello,
I don't speak Spanish, I'm European, and I'll be staying in Medellin for three weeks in December, starting around Christmas.
I really enjoy partying. For example, when I'm in Thailand, I go out to nightclubs almost every night, and I would love to enjoy Medellin in a similar way.
However, I have to admit that reading all the stories and warnings on Facebook groups, forums, and other communities is making me quite nervous, especially regarding the risk of being drugged or robbed. It has reached the point where I'm seriously considering cancelling my trip to Medellin and going to Kenya instead.
I was planning to stay at **Viktory Boutique in Provenza* According to their rules, any outside visitor entering a guest's room must first register at reception and provide an ID. I imagine this already helps reduce some of the risks. I was also planning not to drink anything in my room when I have a visitor over.
What do you think? Am I worrying too much, or do you really need to be extremely cautious in Medellin ?
Regarding dating apps, are some considered safer or more reliable than others in Medellin? Is it also a good idea to always ask for someone's Instagram before meeting them?
Thank you in advance for your advice and for sharing your experiences!

Posts: 290I'd still go but I only go solo. As a group you may be targeted more so I'd be more wary. Cartagena may be better for a group.

Posts: 13Unless you guys are interested in trying out the spots like La Isla or casas, I personally would not recommend going to Medellin right now. The police presence is felt heavily, and the quality has dropped as a result.

Posts: 13Vsiting Medellin tomorrow staying at Parque Lleras
Friends, we've been hearing a lot of news about things happening in Medellin, particularly around Airbnb accommodations in Parque Lleras area. We're a group of seven people traveling for fun, and we're considering canceling our plans. Could you please advise us?

Posts: 176I saw you say something similar on a post several months back, about "male scammers trying to get sex for free". What do you mean exactly by that? Are these guys online who are arranging pay 4 play with women and then afterwards refusing to pay what they agreed on?
