Prostituion is legal but fucking them is not. This makes no sence must be a mistake. I am thinking we are missing something in the translation. They plan to stake out the brothels and whatch them. Domínguez Brito also informed that his agency investigates cases of abused foreigners that are rotated between brothels, and said that there are the so-called "massage centers" that operate "close together" to schools, reason why he reiterated to the authorities the need to fight all manifestations the trafficking of persons.
He also warned that the persecution is not against the people who are sexually abused with this business, but against the proprietors who "abuse the vulnerability and economic situation to operate them sexually and to obtain great benefits against their dignity"."All this, individually, affects our community, the law is clear and in regard to the principle of its applicability we are forced to act," stated Domínguez Brito.
The official's comments regarding prostitution's criminality contradict statements made on Monday by Supreme Court president Jorge Subero Isa, regarding the country's lack of sanctions against it.
In communiqué #05016, Domínguez Brito issued instructions to the public prosecutors regarding the persecution of commercial sexual operations, in compliance with Law 137-03 and Law 24-97.
Domínguez Brito explains that those laws establishes that any person who for the purpose of prostitution in any way assists, attends, conceals of recruits people for its operations; receive benefits from it, allows it, contracts, trains or maintains, even with consent, is guilty of philandering, and is punishable by six months to three years in prison and a Road $150,000 fine.

so i had a 5 day / 4 night trip to the dr. i'm going to start off writing about the day of departure, my last day. in a weird memento sort of way. well, checked out of the hotel in juan dolio in the morning and heaeded to san pedro de macoris to drop off my cupid chica (2nd of two cupid chicas, more on that later) in my rental car. on the way out of san pedro, i drove past a couple of sw on the side of the highway. then in a flash i remembered jao mentioned getting the cheapest bj in his life at around the same spot. The military has not had control of casas since Fernandez.I agree. I know more about the SD casas than I can ever tell. GBP was set up for Dominicans, not gringos. i saw a dominican soldier dressed in army fatigue standing at the gas station, so i yelled at him for help. he was telling the sw to get out and leave me alone, i handed him the loose change so he could give it to her. after some more shouting back and forth, finally she got out. i was relieved and drove off. about 20 yards. then i noticed my digital camera that was sitting in the console was gone! i slammed the car in reverse and yelled "she stole my camera! she stole my camera!" sure enough, she had it in her hand and was holding it hostage for a us$20 ransom! the soldier saw that and he pulled out his gun, ordering her to give it back to me. well. he could order but he is not law enforcement, there was no bite to his order and the scumbag ho knew that. by now a crowd has gathered, yelling at her to give back my camera but she just wouldn't freakin' budge! the soldier then pushed her into my car and he got in as well and said "let's go to the police." although my flight wouldn't leave for a few more hours, there was no way i spent that time a the police station and ran the risk of her being truly ****d. as much as i absolutely hate, despise, abhor, to give in, nonetheless i felt so defeated i had no other choice but to buy my way out of this fucking mess for us$20. did the exchange, wiped the tears off my eyes and drove away us$20 lower in net worth.

There is a new small hotel in Gazcue, Hostal San Francisco de Asis. It is located on Pasteur street, almost a block from Villar Hermanos. It is located in former facilities of Studio 54 casa. I understand it has the most convenient location of all small Gazcue hotels. It is a new place so I wonder if somebody who has recently traveled to SD has stayed there and can confirm if it is guest friendly. Prices are from $40, not bad. If anything, they needed to crackdown on some of the SW between 305 and Jaguar casino on washingto blvd as some of them did not be out there. There were police all over that area and I do not go to casa's anymore, but all were open and police were not doing anything. SW were out in full force more than I have seen in the past.
Also, I stopped by Ruma Bar and cafe grill. (Rumba Cafe & Grill Santo Domingo Ave. 27 de Febrero casi esq. Máximo Gómez, Plaza 2000, 1er. Nivel Republica Dominicana 809 476 7849) I really like this place to go have a beer. You have no prostitution on site you have to see if you get the girl to meet you later. There is an domincan manager who is spainish who will help you talk with girls if you need translation, but you cannot just ask girls to meet you later for sex. It has to be she likes you and wants to give you her number and meet you later then it is on you to work your magic. Again, this place is something differen from the casa point and shoot. It will require some effort to hook up with a girl. I saw a few hot chicks in there so even if you sit with one girl you can invite another one over for drinks. Flew in to Punta Cana today with the sole intention of going to my girl's house in Higuey and just chillin for a couple of days. I bought two servings of ham-cheese-and-shredded-chicken sandwich with fries platters (350 pesos each) and fed the whole village. (No indoor plumbing at their house, prior to eating I had to wash my hands with water from a bucket.) Everybody was very friendly. It was late by then so the chica suggested we crash at a nearby cabana. Drove into a shithole cabana, non-functioning A / C and typical slow trickle water pressure. The going rate was 1000 pesos for overnight, she asked me to give her 600 pesos to negotiate with the manager. No go, so we drove away to try some place else.

I am still rather sceptical about these claims. I doubt whether this professional woman makes much money by US standards even if she is a doctor, dentist, or lawyer. 1. my days off from work were limited. my trip was only 5 days / 4 nights. as much as i'd like to waltz in a local joint in sd and charm a different woman into bed every night, i could not afford to play around with the low probability of success. let's say i came up empty after chasing girls all morning and afternoon, my only resort for the remainder of that day is to go to a casa or wait till 3am when a chick gets off work from a casa. i would've wasted a whole damn day! once i identified my need for solid "dates", i looked towards cupid dot com for solutions.
2. on cupid dot com i did look for chicks who would like me for who i am. not for lack of trying, i started one and a half month prior to my trip. i chronicled my attempt here in the sd thread. i met a few with whom i had good conversation and / or "mutual admiration" (or so i thought) ; but they all fizzled out. i then was awaken to the realization that cupid dot com is just a marketplace where foreign men make offer and dominican women try to win the bid. by then my trip was fast approaching and i knew i had to come up with a different strategy over the "slow talk and relationship building".
3. i just cut to the chase and sent messages to the ones i wanted, even the ones i have spoken to before but really didn't get anywhere, with the message being "hey i'm coming to town let me know if you want me to pick up something for you from the us". bingo! i got a lot more responses; if a girl is interested in my offer, only then did i do the relationship building thing; or more precisely, ironing out our deal / dates. i don't prefer this, but such is the nature of the women on cupid dot com. some of you are going to say no they are all not like that. sure, but that would be the exception, not the rule.
4. in advertising or in speech-giving, the most important thing is "to know your target audience". do i want to fuck intelligent women? so that after heavy banging we can smoke cigarettes and talk about sartre and existentialism? oh yes you bet. Transportation: I refuse to pay for taxi (min $30) to get from the airport to the city. Prior to my trip I searched online for an alternative, and I found only one person posting about guaguas at the airport:

After arriving at the airport, I hung around outside the second level for a good 20 minutes, walking the length of the whole building 2 or 3 times trying to catch anything that looks like a guagua but no dice. Going down to the first level, no luck either. Finally I approached a driver who just dropped off a van full of passengers, like a church group or civic organization. He told me his is NOT a guagua and he does not pick up people. I offered him a 100 pesos to drive me off the airport vicinity where I then waited by the roadside, and hopped on a guagua for 40 pesos the rest of the way into the city.
Vitamin V: In a SD drugstore, Pfizer ones are 450 pesos each; generic A is 75 pesos each and generic B is 95. I bought both the generic kinds and they work fine.
Police: got stopped by the cops twice while driving my rental car, both happened during the day. First time was after picking up my chica #2 and was on a deserted stretch of highway between San Pedro and Juan Dolio- cop was going to ticket me for chica not wearing her seatbelt. I paid him US$20 to get off the hook. That was the smallest bill I had. Lesson for the future: get smaller bills and / or exchange enough DR currency. The look like minivans, I think they drop you off at the Duarte location below the elevated part of 27th. The don't run all the time and when full they go. Also, Duarte street is pretty dangerous, pickpockets and out and out robberies.
As for the Police, if you do something illegal, ask for the ticket (la multa). The Amet will give you a ticket that you do not have to pay. The National Police never give tickets, they are always shaking you down for money. My advice, turn on the light raise you're wallet tell them you only have credit cards. If you feel like your in danger, of course pay them but try not to stop in a deserted dark area.

Do not even bother to ask what you did, again not necessary, they will make something up.
Just volunteer that you have no money, only credit cards.
They will get tired very quickly if they think you have no money and you act like you do not understand.
If the say you broke some rule ask for the ticket (la multa) , they will not write you one.
I live down here and get stopped all the time, I have about 6 tickets from the AMET officers (not as corrupt) and never paid one, they do not have a system to check if a foreigner has a ticket.
After stating the above, the National Police are not above robbing you straight out, if you feel the situation is dangerous, then pay them something.

Surely they are not forking over $30 each way for a taxi.That is spot on. My second trip to STI, I was at Santiago Airport waiting for daybreak so I could catch a cab to a hotel. At one of the snack places upstairs, I started chatting with a girl serving me a beer and I asked her how she gets to the airport and she gave me the number of shared cab that plies between the airport and the city. As I travel with very little luggage, it was easy to find the PA taxi, smack outside the airport and an interesting ride from the airport at 6 AM. The standard ride is 25 pesos, I think. Hotel is single guest friendly, has security guard, in front parking for a few cars, room key is a card and door has double lock, very convenient. Wifi is open, signal in my room was good to fair. You can also get minutes for your cell phone, among other things.
The room was small but enough comfortable for me, nice bed, small fridge, a split unit that can froze you, a 32 inch flat screen tv with a remote control that works, a small closet with an electronic safe inside, very clean room. Hotel is single guest friendly but I am under the impression that this is not a strict policy. Hotel is also a minute walk from Pasteur casas but that is enough away from the noise of the area, very convenient.

I am not very familiar with the area, but it may be close to where the cabanas are located. The Bus Station is in Friusa in Bavaro near the Gas Station.
There is another Station closer to the Airport I think.
Price is indeed 400 Pesos. Buses drive about all Hour. Company is Bavaro Espresso.
They basically will drop you off everywhere you want on the Route to the last Station in Santo Domingo.
We left the Bus somewhere on the Avienda Mexico I think and took a Taxi to the Hotel. Bus did stopped on the Street and they did give us our Luggage.

Thinking of going to the DR at the end of the month. I've been to POP before, but was thinking of going to Santo Domingo to try something new, especially since the Festival de Merengue will be going on.
Anybody been there for this festival? Apparently its a bunch of free concerts and competitions along the Malecon for a week or so. Is the festival worth it?
