How to understand the flood news right now
We basically get good news about receding water from the north of Bangkok and the districts further north (Ayutthaja etc.) , and bad news about inundated areas and rising water from the east / south-east / west side of the city.
You must think about a giant lake moving south, covering a huge area, but being not very deep (2-3 m max). That means, that we will get good news about receding water in the northern areas the lake covers, and bad news about rising water in the southern areas the lake moves into. There is only very little slope towards sea level, that makes the movement of the lake quite slow. That's good and bad. It prolongs the flood in some areas, because the water moves on very slowly, but it also gives the canal and pumping system (BMA drainage system) time to pump water into the rivers.
Reaching the flood barriers the water is blocked, rises in front of the flood barriers and finally leaks through or overflows the barriers.
The Flood barriers buy time for the BMA's drainage system. Water flows into the canals to pumping stations, from where it is then pumped into the 3 rivers here in the Chao Praya delta and finally flows into the Gulf of Thailand. In total the lake gets smaller every day, but it is still there, and it is still huge.
Critical areas
In the west of Bangkok (other side of the river) many districts are inundated (Nonthaburi etc.). In the east / south east Bang Chen and Lad Krabang industrial estates are seeing rising water levels and struggle to survive.
Suvaranabhumi airport
The airport and the roads from the airport into the mongering / tourist areas have not seen any flood yet. But. The moving lake has just started to reach the area north of the airport (Lad Krabang industrial estate). We don't really know right now how bad that area around the airport will be effected.
Will the mongering area (Sukhumvit, Central Bangkok) be flooded?
Most likely not. This area is protected by two giant flood tunnels (near Makhasan / Ratchadapisek and Rama 9) and an effective pumping system. Risk is that the pumps fail, or it starts to rain. There was no major rainfall (just a little bit) in the last 10 days, and the raining season should be over. The pumps are more or less working fine. Up to now.
Bangkok dry in 2 weeks
Some politicians voiced their opinion since Friday, that Bangkok will be dry in 10 days / 2 weeks. That will NOT happen. It will last longer.
Supply situation
It's still tense, but basically you find everything you need. The 7/11 shops are somehow badly managed, they have some product shortages every day. Other shops are well stocked (Villa Market, Emporium).
We don't get any draft beer right now (Singha, Tiger, Heineken). So we have to sell bottles. No major issue.
Prices for nearly everything have risen (eggs, vegetables, bottled water etc. Etc.).
There is a fight (BMA against flood) ongoing to keep Rama II road open. It smells a bit "muddy", but still looks clean. Don't drink it, and you should be ok. Up to now it did not cause any problems for the employees / customers here at Livingstone's Lodge.
Health issues
Many reports about rashes and skin diseases from those living in the flood. No major outbreak of water-born infectious diseases up to now. Still. Stay away from the water, it's dirty and polluted with all kinds of stuff picked up on the way down from the North. Don't become a flood tourist!

I have thousands of dollars available on my card. I called the bank that issued it and they said there is not even a record of a charge attempt. I have not been able to get through to Air Asia at the Thailand, England, Malaysia, or Australia numbers. I was finally able to get through on the Indonesia number and they were no help at all. After talking to the guy for 20 minutes and trying to put the card through myself in different currencies (BTW the tickets are $20 more if USD is selected) on his supervisor's advice, nothing: declined, declined, declined. Although it gave me a reservation number that would be good for 4 hours he said he can not take payment over the phone because it is a promo fare. It has to be done on the website. Ain't that a b*t&h?

So I went to their website and was able to purchase 3 tickets at the same time as the Air Asia flight in less than 5 minutes for 7,740 baht, that is $90 less than Air Asia. The helpful agent also said that all the agents who have worked for Visa for any time are aware of the problem.
I don't remember the time of day when this problem occurs, but I think it was about 04h00 Eastern time in the USA, or 16h00 in BKK. If you book in the early morning from Asia, things seem better. Also, I have my AmEx on file now, and the problems seem fewer with AmEx.
But AirAsia's customer services all suck, and I avoid flying with that carrier when I have a choice.

Well finally I will report on my first two weeks in Bangkok. First of all for all you obsessive ones, there is absolutely no evidence of any flood here. I stay close to the Mo Chit BTS station which is not in the downtown area. Well I took the advice of others and went to Soi Cowwboy to Baccara. I decided to stand at the bar to get a good look at the stage. Police discourage taxi to pick up customers there, so you need to behave in the right way as you might arrive in the bad moment.

1. Spasso. Don't expect too much here. Girls are a little older, dressed nice, ask more money because of the surroundings, may provide better company, but are not that hot. Check it out by all means. Are they worth it? I never found a girl I wanted here.

Very interesting fellow who I am now in email contact with. At Bangkok airport he asked how I was getting into town. I said meter taxi. He said come with him to the 4th floor and pick up a drop off taxi. I said that is illegal. He laughed and said, no problem if you are a monk. I thanked him for the tip and paid the 50 Baht fee at the cab stand. Still a very cheap ride into town.

Usually they turn their heads, move around pretending to discipline the traffic but actually ignoring what is happening.

ThanksI was in BKK some weeks ago. I took the relatively new trainservice. 40 B for the regular service (about 30 min) to downtown and 150B for the express service (about 15 min). At the end station you can easily connect with the BTS that will take you to Sukhumvit if it there you are staying. This is what I will be using in the future!

It really depends on your budget and I can't see myself paying 2-3k plus a bar fine no matter how hot they look. I'd rather hook up with a SW / FL for an hour or go to a BJ bar for half the price but that's just me and since I've been coming here for a while I've established my preferences.
You should keep in mind the prices are variable in regards to time and it may be more expensive early in the evening than late at night but others here have more knowledge of this. Hence my preference for Soi 6 in Pattaya.

Side note: Where is the cheapest place to get quality suits. Seeing ads for "Jas Clothing"Thermae is ok to walk. I have done it, but you will work up a sweat. Take the BTS to Spasso or Cowboy and beyond. If you pick up a girl at either of these venues, you will want to take a taxi back to your hotel. Don't be a newbie. Learn the ropes. The train system is fast, convenient, cheap and will take you everywhere you want & should go. It is your trip so do what you want, but you would really be missing out on the best BKK has to offer if you focus just on the Soi 4 area.
As far as suits go, remember you get what you pay for. Really cheap suits look really cheap.
Another thought:
For first timers to BKK; avail yourselves of all BKK has to offer. Check out the temples and the Royal Palace. Eat some quality Thai food. Buy a silk shirt made to order ect. Try to get to as many of the great venues as possible including the sex massage parlors, the late night clubs, the Go Go’s, the beer bars and the FL’s. BKK is really a cool place. It is the big mango and has a lot to offer. But if you are not into trying all this and just want to hang around the soi 4 area shagging cheap pussy, that’s cool, but I think you might really be happier in Pattaya. Pat has more pussy per sq block than anywhere in Asia. Soi 6,7,8, Beach Road, Soi Post Office, DD’s, a zillion beer bars, and high & low end Go Go’s. Pat has cheaper prices and everything is pretty centrally located so getting around is infinitely easier than BKK. So yeah, Surf Looker, Pattaya may be what you are really looking for.

Transportation: 530 to SOI 4 / Nana- includes tip and 70 bhat for highways. 5 pm pickup with a lot of traffic.
-Went to Soi 3- Grace Hotel- arab club / music. Few sexy arab girls but crazy numbers for short time. Left. 200 bhat to get in / gets you a drink.

I would like to share a recent experience with you. About 4 weeks ago I met a nice girl who was the manageress of a massage place. C4TSkin color is a minor factor in my appraisal of beauty. I have been with some lovely darker skinned Thais as well as gorgeous Indo girls. It is mainly Asian guys that put a premium on lighter skin color. Although lately, I am getting hard for super hot light skinned Chinese girls in Macau and HKG, but that is another story.

Mid July and mid August I stayed in Bangkok, both for around one week.

Any beer in Thailand you can drink with knowledge you will not come down with the shits from it. That said from time to time the brewers are a little thai in their work practices, Singha beer is well known for having a touch more formeldahyde than necessary in their water, and the previous makers of a german beer used to stuff up the alchohol content severely so, up to 12% in some instances.
Of course any bar owner can opt for watering down the draft beer like some dodgy places in the west do, maybe that's why I always drink bottled.
