Not to beat a dead horse, but I will take my turn to provide directions to the "waterfall"/"fountain"/"fishbowl" place.

At Citic City Plaza, exit the Jusco department store via the back (south) entrance. This puts you on an east/west street. Turn left (east). From there to the end of the block, along the right (south) side of the street, you will see about 5 shops with barber poles. The waterfall place is the middle one or so. Yes, there is water flowing down the front window, but maybe it's not always turned on. Look inside the shops and see which one has an artificial waterfall inside the entry way. As others have said, it's across the street from where the Jusco building ends and a construction site begins (last week, anyway).

They will lead you up to the 3rd or 4th floor and have you wait in a room for a girl, unless you sort of barge into the girls' waiting room on the 2nd floor. It's not really a fishbowl, there's no glass, just a colorfully-painted wall and door you can't see through, but you can open the door and have a look by being pushy or just playing dumb and pretending you don't know where you're going. Just returned from the infamous "Waterfall/Fishbowl" with Raz and another buddy. I can confirm the following:

1) The name of the place is "Chang Le".

2) It has only been open a month and a half.

3) There is a neon sign above the door.

4) The touts are wearing dark, not necessarily black ties

5) The girls outside are wearing more of a burgundy than a red dress.

6) There is nothing to the right. There is a beauty salon to the left, the dentist place is in a completely different building two buildings to the east.

7) The waterfall is more like a small old-fashioned water wheel you used to see from the Old West.

Best way to find the place is the go out the furthest east exit from the Citic Plaza in the back. The place is directly across the street. You cannot miss it.

Fishbowl Directions

On a recent trip, I located what I believe to be the location. Here is an easy way to find it.
1) Jusco, exit in the back
2) Cross Street, go down Tong Xing Lu I believe it is
3) Find the 7-11
4) Cross street again to find the JB Sex Toys shop
5) Travel 4 or so shops away from Jusco
6) Look for shop with comfortable looking lobby, water on front window, etc. (you will have passed it twice using these directions, so you should find it)

I am surprised you missed such convienient things like the 7-11 and sex toy shop. Frankly I am not much interested to go, as I can get more selection looking at dozens of BBS's compared to 1 shop, but nice for folks who like the sauna and other amenities.

First time posting, but I have been reading reports for a bit of time now. I've been going to Shenzhen for a couple of years now, and while I have not done any 'mongering', here is my report. Its mainly of a navigational report, which I hope should clarify a few discrepancies that I have seen here.

(I apologize ahead of time if I step on other people's toes/reports. I could be wrong as well. If I am, hopefully someone wiser can clarify and correct me.)

Shenzhen is the name given to the place in southern China north of Hong Kong where a lot of economic activity is taking place. The whole area where these business activities are happening is fairly large, covering about 126 square miles. It is shaped liked a kidney bean, on its side, with the rail line running north and south through the center of the area. Incidentally, this rail line has a station near the Shangri-La Hotel, and consequently there is a lot of activity near there.

The Shangri-La Hotel and the train station that I mentioned above is just within the border of this 126square mile region. Its in the Luohu District.

Shenzhen Hilton, also known as the Panglin Hotel is to the north-north-east (NNE) of the Shangri-La Hotel. Both are in the Luohu District, and both are definitely in the downtown region, judging by the number of streets and buildings around the area. There is a Walmart nearby the SZ Hilton, though, I'm not sure which direction its at.

There are multiple districts that make up Shenzhen. Bao'an District on the north west. Nanshan District is to the south of Bao'an. East of Nanshan is Futian District, which is also south of Bao'an. East of Futian is Luohu District. Yantian District is to the east of Luohu, and Longgang District is to the north of Luohu and Yantian. I'll try and scan in a map later. Scored a map from one of the hotels that I stayed at. (Next, to score with someone that I take to my hotel room. :D )

Crowne Plaza Hotel, which some here have stayed at, is pretty far away from the downtown area of Shenzhen, if you consider the downtown area to be around Shangri-La Hotel. Crowne Plaza is actually in Nanshan District, and its right across the street from the Window of the World tourist attraction. Its about a 50RMB taxi ride away from Shangri-La.

Hopefully, this would help in making a WSG 'mongering' map of the area.

Was down in ShenZhen a week ago, some pretty decent mongering.

I stayed at the ShenZhen Railway station hotel at the station. I walked across the border from HK and really needed to go bathroom, the room was cheap and clean so checked in. 269RMB 235 HKD a night. The place isn't the best for mongering. Security gaurds on every floor and etrance. They all want to check the ID of any guests you bring in. Which made the girls nervous, but I wasn't stopped. KTV’s are real common in this part of the word. I’ve been to them all over China, Taiwan, Japan and Vietnam and other places like Thailand and the Philippines have them just they use different names. There are 2 basic kinds of KTV, the Karaoke ONLY, and the Karaoke plus additional service. For the purpose of this group I will venture a guess that we’re only interested in the second option so, that’s all I’ll discuss. To find out which one you’re at is very easy, I’d just ask. Anyway, they work a little different from place to place but the basics are the same. When you enter you will be taken to a room with a Karaoke music system (usually), they generally will have beer and other drinks and some light food to offer. As a general rule they will automatically start to bring women to the room, I’ve seen as few as 4-5 and as many a 40-50 depending on the size of your group and room. You can then select as few or as many as you like to sit with you. If you don’t like any in the group tell them to bring in another group, and keep doing that until you have as many as you like. Once you have selected your companion(s) then you start a standard Karaoke session in some places the girl will put on a sort of striptease/dance show followed by more Karaoke. At anytime you can start discussing available services and prices because they’ll vary widely. Some of the KTV’s will have rooms within the facility and others you will take your friend to either your room or they will be happy to recommend a nearby room if you prefer. But you will want to find out. Depending on your objective both options have advantages. If you want to taste as many different flavors as possible, then the onsite rooms are convenient. You can select a partner(s) and go to the onsite room and back to the Karaoke room to exchange for new partner(s) as many times as you like. On the other hand, if you’re looking for an all night thing with the same initial selection(s) then the onsite room is no advantage because you’ll take your friend(s) back you your room.
I hope this helps. KTV’s are a great way to get started in a new town or just have a lot of fun anytime. You will have a great variety available to you and a great time.

Here are some observations from 2 days in the Jusco area.

My favorite scene in Shenzhen are the young girls in the high rises near the train station. Head for the McDonalds on Jianshe road and keep walking away from the station. Turn right into one of the rows of shops on the right. You will be apporached by older women who offer you beautiful young girls. They always have a place they can take you too for and extra 10-20 RMB ST. I have a similar living arrangement so this works well for me.

There are a number of bowling alleys. The only one I can give you an exact location of at the moment is on Ba Gua Er road between Hong Ling Road and Bao'an Nan Road in Luohu. It is a second or third floor walkup. I have seen others but cannot recall exactly where they are right now.

There is also a bowling alley on Zhenxing Road (between Huanqiang Bei road and Shangbu Road) in Futian District. It is in the same building as Vanguard department store and is on 5th floor I think.

Another bowling alley is just acroos and the street and a little south of City Cowboy Bar (Niu Zai Ba) in Luohu (off of Fenghuang Road).

In both those places, there is a big bowling pin right out on the sidewalk. The Chinese word for bowling is taken from English, 'BaoLing Qiu.' Forget what the costs are.

Seems to be a crackdown on the closing times of bars this past weekend. Bars that usually stayed open past the official 2am closing actually closed at 2am.

There is a good bowling alley in OCT. If you are staying at the Crowne Plaza or the Seaview Hotel (excellent hotel and good value too) the bowling alley is quite convenient.

About 10 mins walk from Crowne Plaza east on Shennan Road (a few minutes past Walmart) just beside the Seaview hotel.

The food street behind Seaview hotel is also recommended.

I think this may be the best bowling alley in Shenzhen as it is a dedicated building with the bowling on the ground floors and tons of lanes.

Suprised to learn that action is drying up in Futian. Still all action stations in Sha Tsui. Went there last weekend with a crew of mongers from Hong Kong and had a great time. My world mongering/golf trip continues. After a 2 week break in HK to sort out some business, off to Macau, Zuhai, Chung san (cannot remember the name of nearby town) Humen, Dongguan, Chang ping, Shenzhen city, Tangxia and Lung hua and finally in Guangzhou.

Basic routine is golf during the day and mongering at night. I struck a deal with a car from one of the golf clubs (a Passat) and he took me all over the place, day and night. I paid him 500 RMB a day. He was allowed to pick up extra business when I played golf. He had my laundry done, booked my hotel ahead and a lot of times, rang mamasan ahead etc etc. My golf bag stayed in his car. It has been a memorable 2 months.

Macau is too expensive compared to what you can get just across the border. It is suitable for people who wants to gamble and shag but if you have time, China is the go.

I started hitting on to the caddies (very politely) as a joke in Zuhai and lo and behold, 1 in 4 gave positive responses (at least to dinner but all ended up in my hotel room after dinner). I was particularly besotted with one in Dongguan. She caddied for me during the day and I shagged her at night, morning and afternoon for 6 days in a row. I had to leave when the staff at the golf courses started giggling when I turned up for yet another extra round. I paid the caddy 1000 RMB a day all inclusive.

PM me on if you want to go to TS. I have been down there a few times and had 0 problems (so far). I can not speak to others experience, but just fly normal and avoid obvious signs of stupidity. If by chance anyone from a GongAn to a streetsweeper confronts you, smile, look lost and ask for the nearest McD and move on. 99.9% no problem if done correctly. It is a good sceen down there and it is more convienient for me, but you need to get used to the turning down large groups of women before chosing one, that is a bit of a challenge for me at least.

As for the border visa, DN did you do this recently and what nationality are you. I think it is much more expensive for Americans and I had a Brit friend get rejected, and get this "deported" for illegal entry even though he had yet to enter and was just going to the office for a visa. Why because he was "entering" without a visa at Brits were not on the list for being able to get 1 days, never mind that the list is not published anywhere. Crazy. They charged him 500HKD and sent him back to HK. bottom line - be careful on this and check with someone how has a very recent experience with the same nationality. Hopefully it is more normal now.

Sha Tsui:

S Weelock (Chinese descent) and I went to Sha Tsui this week. First time visit for him and he wanted some company for security reasons; safer in numbers I guess. As it turned out, I was a disadvantage for him. We cruised a bit, up and down the alleys checking out the talent. He found girl he liked but none had passed my boner test yet so we strolled down some more alleys while he kept his on ice so to speak. A few more alleys down, I ran into a couple of sisters (21 and 19) that were being very attentive to me. After a little more hunting, I decided to go back for the sisters. We went back for Weelock’s girl first and I went back to grab the sisters. At this point, I had spent too much time in the area. The security boys (Bao An) started following me. Actually I think the Bao An were more concerned about (OAH). The statement about the Bao An following me for a few blocks, it was just one BA and it was just a block and half. Following me might have just been a coincident. The Bao An followed OAH until he got into a taxi and out of Sha Tsui.

I think if you are a white guy FORGET about going to Sha Tsui. The Bao An will give the girl too much trouble if they see one with a white guy. Stick with Jusco and Futian Walmart areas but the quantity and quality of girls is much better in Sha Tsui.

Sha Tsui is also a little far from Lowu border. It's about a $40-45 RMB ride from the Lowu border before about 11:30pm. The taxis will cost more after about 11:30pm.

Let me start by saying that I'm not familar with China (never been to SZ) but I've read posts in this thread about getting these single entry visas for the Shenzhen area. For people wanting to enter China on business, I've noticed many people fly into the HK area and then get a single entry visa when to me, it seems easier to get a multiple entry visa before leaving their home country. That way you don't have to fly to HK every time you fly to China (e.g. Beijing) and go thru a lot of hassle (see previous posts), and it's good for 1 year. I received mine in <1 week with rush service. I've asked people and never gotten a good reason why they only get a single entry visa.

Am I missing something here or is there a reason why people use the single entry visa route when most foreigners are in the area on business anyway? If someone were to ask me, I would not suggest these single entry visas and suggest getting a multiple entry visa to save time and avoid being hassled. If you cannot for whatever reason, then get a single entry visa after entering China.

I would not go so far as to say, "White guys should not go to Sha Tsui at all". I still believe that if you follow the advise posted on this thread about low key visits for one purpose, "on-site", action, you will be OK:

Dos:

1) Find a reliable, " lao wai friendly" mamasan with clean accomodation and call in advance so she is expecting you.
2) Enter the area as close to her place as possible and proceed directly upstairs
3) Let her bring up the girls for you to pick from. 30-40 should be enough for you to find one you like.
4) Do the deed right there in the place.
5) Leave the apartment and proceed to the closest exit from the area.

Dont's:

1) Parade around the area like you own the place as OAH does
2) Walk down the main drags with 2 girls for take-out service
3) Stay in the area for more than necessary to get laid.

SZ Visa Update:

US Passport holder can NOT get the 5 day SZ visa at the Lowu border crossing from HK. That's new since 1st Apr. 2004. You get rejected at the Lowu border and have to go back to HK. I'm not sure if you get a fine.

That's the deserved pay back for fingerprinting all US visitors I guess.

But I guess you can still get the full China visa at the HK Lowu KCR station BEFORE you exit the KCR, near the turnstiles on the right hand side. It should be around HK$380 or so and will take 1 hour or so.

Sha Tsui is way across town is near or in Oversea Chinatown, ( OCT ). It's about a $45 taxi ride from Lowu border before 11:30pm. Someone posted a map of the Sha Tsui sometime in Feb/Mar. 2004 on the Shenzhen board. There's a lot of information on Sha Tsui during this time also. I read it's NOT a safe place to go along especially at night since people often get robbed and even killed there.

Sha Tsui is actually a small village within the city limits of Shenzhen. It is closer to Futian than Luohu. Yes, BaoAn are only security guards, but the girls seem to fear them for whatever reason.

I also heard that in some very competetive businesses like golf club counterfeit, owners go after competetion with similar set-up. The Alex Ho arrest case is still major news in Hong Kong. There where a few more details in the news (SCMP) today:

The police got him in the 'Huiyuan Haiyi Hotel' in Humen. The raid took place at about 05:00 in the morning. It was a routine raid and in that night 4 hotels in that area got raided.

The chinese law states in such case a penalty of up to RMB 5000, or 6 month 're-education'. Why that poor HK democrat got 6 month instead of 5000 is not clear to me.

What did we learn now?

An overnight stay with a pro may increase your risk ending up in a raid.

I took a walk around the Futian Walmart area on Monday night. Most or all of the shops behind the Walmart were open. The selection actually looked pretty good, and there were a few smiles and pleasantly obscene jestures from the ladies.

I tried posting on Aug 16 but the report never got posted. I think Sha Tsui is closer to Overseas Chinese Town or near Nashan District. It's accoss town west of Luohu Border, 40-50 RMB by taxi before around 11:30pm. You should read some of the posting around Feb 14 2004 to early March 2004. A lot of stuff on Sha Tsui during this time. I read it's NOT a safe place to go alone at night. Extreme caution should be taken, if alone. People get robbed, arrested and even killed.

IMO the BEST looking SELECTION of girls are in the Lisboa Hotel in Macau doing the walk. ( The walk of fame or shame ). I forgot what people were calling it. I was in love with over 95% of the ladies. IMO much better than Sha Tsui.

I was always under the impression that the police cannot raid a 4 or 5 star hotel. I can only imagine that the Hyatt is in this category (but it may not be). Is that true or not?

Also the new laws are supposed to respect your privacy and sanctity of your home - which I think should include your hotel room as well.

Police authorities in the Chinese mainland had "indisputable evidence" to convict Alex Ho Wai-to of the Democratic Party (DP) in a prostitution case.

Li Zelin, a spokesman of the Dongguan Municipal Public Security Bureau, said this at a press conference Tuesday.

He refuted claims that Ho had been beaten or mistreated prior to giving a confession after he was detained last Friday.

Ho, a candidate for Kowloon East constituency in the coming Legislative Council (LegCo) election, was detained for allegedly patronizing a prostitute. He has been given a six-month interment sentence and is being held at a detention camp in Dalang township, Dongguan.

"Ho had sex with a woman in a hotel room and a money transaction was involved," Li said.

Li said local police conducted a routine anti-vice raid in Humen township of Dongguan last Friday.

Ho and a 25-year-old woman, surnamed Zhou, were found naked in a room in Huiyuan Hyatt Hotel at about 5:00 am.

Some unused condoms and used tissue were found. But the used condom had been flushed away by Ho, Li said.

Zhou, who comes from East China's Anhui Province, admitted having sex with Ho. She said she met Ho in a local karaoke bar on Thursday evening. Ho rented the hotel room and spent the night there with her.

According to relevant Chinese laws and regulations, Ho and Zhou would be held in custody for six months, Li said.

Li stressed that the police had been acting according to the law. Patronizing prostitutes is illegal on the Chinese mainland.

In Hong Kong, Secretary for Security Ambrose Lee said Tuesday that the Security Bureau was trying to obtain more details about the incident and promised to follow the case closely.

He stressed that the SAR government was very concerned about Hong Kong citizens being detained outside the territory. He pledged to probe into any unfair treatment Hongkongers might receive abroad or on the mainland.

But he pointed out that Hong Kong people should respect and abide by the laws of the places where they travel.

Lee subsequently met with Ho's wife Carol, her family, and some DP members to discuss the case.

Speaking in a separate press conference after the meeting, Mrs Ho reiterated that she had confidence in her husband.

She said she did not care whether or not there was evidence against her husband and her biggest concern was his health condition because he has a liver problem.

She wanted him back in Hong Kong as soon as possible for medication.

Funny story from the night club last night:

I did not sign up for the online news but have it from the paper issue. This poor police officer got caught in Sha Tsui (SCMP spells it: Shazuicun) and refers to it as 'Shenzhens Red Light district'. Anyway, he was arrested in a raid on an appartment in Sha Tsui Tuesday night.

That's probably why it was quite there lately.

In interesting point in the article from the SZ police: They seem to have changed the penalty and no longer accept money. All caught go for 're-education through labour'. Which takes 15 days detention for the HK officer. Maximum possible is 6 month.

It's a pure police detention and there will be no court, no judge, no lawyers, no appeals. Means no rights for you.

Although this topic is not directly related to pooning, it is indeed related to the end result of pooning. During the past year or so it has become increasingly evident to me that it is way too easy to hook up with a girlfriend in this town. I had a couple of guys PM me for dating tips in China, so I thought I would share them with the forum. Sorry in advance if this bores you.

Since there are a million ways to accomplish the goal of dating a "nice" Chinese girl, I will focus on two sure-fire strategies. Follow them and you will succeed, I guarantee it.

1. If you have not already, learn some Mandarin language skills. It makes a HUGE difference.

2. Go to a local night club like U-Bar, Michelle's House, this bar, that bar, you name it. Look for a group of girls that are out to celebrate. Look for the one pretty girl that looks a little out of place. This may tell you that she does not go to bars often, and thus there is a better chance that she is a "decent" girl.

3. Walk up and talk to her. As her to dance. Chances are she will be happy that you asked.

4. Follow the 3-date rule. Even if you can sleep with her on the first date, don't. Wait for the third date. It increases her desire, and tells her that not only can you control yourself, YOU are in control. This is an important point to establish with a Chinese girl if you are interested in a LT relationship with her. Although Chinese girls initially come across as sweet and demure, they are quick to take charge once they are comfortable with you, unless you set the stage early.

5. The rest should follow naturally.

If this does not work, join a local English language chat site, and follow steps 3 to 5. If you do not know a local chat site, do a search about 1.5 years back under the name Tangzhen or Tangent (I can't remember which guy, but it was one of them that posted about this site).

Police in southern China have closed down more than 1,600 entertainment venues and detained 24,000 people in a campaign to clampdown on vice, gambling and drugs, state media said on Thursday.

As many as 10,670 entertainment businesses were inspected by law enforcement and government agencies during a three-month drive to flush out illegal activities in Guangdong province, the China Daily reported.

"Of those inspected, 1,651 have been shut down permanently, while the rest have been required to cease trading and make improvements to business practices," said He Guifu, from the Guangdong Bureau of Public Security.

The campaign took in eight major cities - Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Dongguan, Huizhou, Foshan, Zhongshan and Jiangmen - situated in the prosperous Pearl River Delta which borders Hong Kong and Macau.

It looks like there is no real clear case for foreigner. Then what happens to most Hong Kong, Macau and especially Taiwanese residents if caught. From what I read from the article, people are fined and detained for up to two weeks at most. The main problem, are they ALLOWED BACK into China, especially for Taiwanese since Taiwan is not part of China.

The Hong Kong police guy was let go after 15 days. The HK Democrat guy is still in jail. The Japanese in ZhuHai were all let go. At the very end the article states, "The China's Public Security Ministry has maintained that it is 'normal' for different sentences to be meted out for similar offences". Any comments.

For those a bit confused by the Yan Da you should get a bit more in touch with how things work here. Consistency in rules and adminstration is not required and in fact is avoided, so only places where the powers that be do not like, get hit hard, and even then some that are in good graces in those areas can continue to do business. Some areas get hit, others are relaxed. It keeps a bit of the mystery factor going. Sure a few unlucky people will get slightly crushed on the way, but hey they knew they were taking a risk from the start. Manage your risk and go with the flow of things.

There are frequent KTV clampdowns... Other than typical clean ups around holidays there was rather nasty one 1 1 1/2 yr ago after good ol CCTV with hidden camera checked out handfull of KTVs in DG to discover, gasp, that anything goes especially the less classy joint with cloth hanger where the girls hang their bra, dress and... :) Since most KTV regulars are Taiwanese men, it's easy target too. Gong An at that time even arrested customers! There was another mini clampdown in DG KTV after the infamous Japanese sex party in Zhuhai as many DG KTV girls were recruited for this "large group *****mongering convention". But like anything else in China, things calmed down after few weeks.

Cops tip off before the raid but only safe KTVs are the ones inside 3-4 star hotels owned by PLA (people liberation army) as Gong An dare not to enter per my local pals.

Read my previous post from early August on the "fiasco" I went thru bringing a KTV date from DG Sheraton (once of the nicest KTV in DG) to Crowne Plaza. It was rather expensive and frustrating experience... I used to have my KTV GF from DG spend a weekend with me in CP or visit me during day time vs. trying to bring someone thru Nantou checkpoint. 1 way fare for private taxi from DG/Houjie to Nantou is 230 RMB.

Sometimes, it's all about the money. You can definately get your Dongguan KTV girl to come to Shenzhen. It's just a matter of whether you're willing to pay for it. My friend and I used to do that all the time. We even did it in reverse, had Shenzhen girls come out to Dongguan. He had his own car though, so he would have his driver take the girls back when we wanted them to leave. I'm pretty sure though, if you gave her a 1000Y and dropped her off at the train or bus station, she'll be fine. You don't have to send her in a taxi. I remember one girl, that's exactly what she did. I asked her if she wanted a cab and she said she'd rather take the bus because it would save me money. She came back the next day the same way.

Last week a HK friend had his driver take us across the SZ border in his dual-plated Benz-- very convenient as we did not have to leave the car for either HK or China customs. We went to a small gritty village on the outskirts of SZ called Shekou (sp?). The nightclub was a bit rundown to say the least, but there was plentiful choice of young girls. My share of the room and drinks fee was 100rmb.

I'd categorize many lessor known KTVs in DG and Chang An fall into this category including Nanshan Holiday Inn. 2nd Border Check
Since last year there is no 2nd border check. Basically anybody can now enter SZ area. The check points are still there, usually there is also a man in green standing there, but 98% get waived through. I just entered the SZ zone on a public minibus coming from Baoan - even no stop at the 2nd border.

CCTV with hidden camera
With a CCTV you may need additional lighting. This can be done with an invisible IR light. You can see the light with your eyes, however, you can see it through the lense of a digital camera.

BTW, just back from Baoan. Went first for a RMB 30 massage. I don't mind the RMB 30, but it's a pity to waste time like that. Found a BBS a few minutes later. One bad thing, the lounge / bar within the hotel that I was hoping for, turned out to be demolished, they were building something else in its place. don't know what.

The Century Plaza Hotel is still undergoing some renovations to the lobby. It now has quite a popular nightclub on the 4th and 5th floors called Class Club. The night club has karaoke gals I think but the bar on the 5th floor does not have working gals. The go-go gals are pretty fun to watch as they sometimes do fake lesbian dancing.The entrance to the elevator is on the south side of the hotel.

I wouldn't worry too much about taxi drivers, but then again, I do know my way around the city.

They say the subway should be opening up at the end of this year (but maybe sometime early next year). BTW, SZ's air is considered to be pretty good compared the other cities in China.

Had a sudden urge last night to do a quick nasty, so over to Jusco I go. Many shops were open, and this was a nice change from last month, when they were all sitting outside the shops with the doors closed, looking forlorn and rejected.

Walked down alley 1, and noticed that #21 was AWOL. Nothing on alley 2. Stopped by to see my Fave on alley 2.5; she was just in from Guangzhou, but I wanted to try something new so I said my hellos and moved on.

I personally do not like the Lowu area by the train station, but if you insist on walking, you have a couple of low prices options. The apartment girls that the pimps are pushing only cost 150RMB, even 100RMB if you cry poor, but there is a small risk in following the pimps up to the apartments. The pimps will also deliver to your hotel which is safer, but you don't have the opportunity to select a girl, although you are under no obligation to take what is sent.

The other option are the BBS across from The Panglin Hotel which is across the street from the Sunshine. Just walk up the alley where the outdoor restaurants are and take your first left. Shops are in the alleys on the right. They quality in this area has alway been a grade below what can be found in Futian or Jusco areas.

I am surprised you found no SW. Take a walk another block over to Shennan Lu. You may have better luck and better prices.

A new sauna opened up on Fuxing Lu between the WalMart and McDonalds. I managed BBBJ + FS there for 200RMB tip but it was rushed. What a bad day!

I mean, I thought all of Shenzhen is like Lowu, the mindset of the people, the begging, the scoping eyes kind of thing.

at one time somebody online explained to me that as Lowu was the original starting point from which SZ expanded, it is the oldest portion and thus grew with the poorest city planning. As such Futian is better laid out, streets, buildings, etc., and so forth.

Originally, we were going to Jia Hua, but one of the guys said this place was better and some of the guys wanted to try a new place since most of them have been to Jia Hua. Dumbasses didn't tell me the change in plans until I was literally 2 minutes from Jia Hua and Jeanster was already there. The Cinese is right off the Guang-Shen Expressway. By car, it's about 15-20 minutes from Jia Hua straight on the main road. Probably about only 10 minutes from the Sheraton. On the lighter I got from there, they list the address as:

The ten of us stayed at the hotel, it's a pretty decent place. I'm not sure if I'll be in town on 10/11, but I should be back by 10/25.

You were traveling down ShenNan road and the tourist place was Window of the World. Jusco (zhong xin guang xhang) is on this exact road, but much closer to Lohu. You might have seen a rather nice mall on the left side while on the bus maybe only 10 minutes from the border depending on traffic. That is the area. I was myself there just 1 hour ago. I did not buy as I was pressed for time and not so much in that mood as one of my favorites was not there, but no matter. Remember the fun areas are behind the mall, across the street, a bit to the left side.

Recently someone posted that there were "hundreds of BBS" near FuTian WalMart. I must have not hit the right area yet. I have seen like 15~20 or so, but hundreds? Can someone give me exact landmarks and directions to the area, starting from WalMart. Raz up for a look of the area?

The mini displays of Chinese sites is "Splendid China." It's in Overseas Chinese Town. Most likely, you went straight on Shennan Lu to Splendid China. JUSCO is on Shennan Lu on the way to Futian. It's a big mall on the left side if you're travelling from Luohu westward. BTW, you passed Futian on your way to OCT.

EDIT: You're right about Luohu being scummy. Futian is much nicer, and not as crowded. OCT is also pretty nice with all the palm trees.

I'll try to explain Shenzhen so you'll have a better understanding of where things are. When you cross over from Hong Kong at Luohu, you're pretty much at the south central part. Most of the interesting parts are basically west of the border. When you go east, you head towards Shatoujiao, Yantian, Dameisha, and Xiaomeisha, which are mostly factories, the port, and the beaches. I do know of a couple of places out there, but there's a lot less action than the west side and the quality has dropped a lot in the last couple of years.

Shenzhen has two main roads, Shennan Lu and Binhe Lu. Shennan Lu is north of Binhe Lu and is a very wide and very busy street. It has stop lights at almost every block. During rush hour, it can get pretty nasty, not as bad as Dongmen, but still pretty bad. Binhe Lu is almost a highway.

The biggest landmarks on Shennan Lu, from east to west, are:

1) Diwang Building (tallest building in Shenzhen).
2)The portrait of Deng Xiao Ping. Once you pass the portrait, you're pretty much in Futian. Now the name changes slightly to Shennan Zhong Lu.
3) JUSCO (AKA Zhongxin Guangchang).
4) SEG Tower (second tallest building in Shenzhen)
5) Shanghai Bingguan.

The Stock Exchange is before SEG and after the Portrait, but I can't remember exactly where right now. Another 10 minutes futher and you head into OCT where you have all the tourist attractions like Splendid China and Windows of the World.

To be perfectly honest, Shenzhen isn't that fun for me anymore. There are a couple of reasons for that, the main reason being that I can no longer go to my two favorite KTVs. I'm gonna have to find myself some new KTV's near where I am. Lately, I've been having a much better time in Dongguan at the hotels.

I made the comment of 100 BBS in the Wal-Mart area. Without much topographical research I still stand to my claim.

There are 10+ BBS on Funning Lu (northbound from Fuxing Lu) and the same number on the parallel Lu to the East. West of Funning Lu you have a few residential blocks with very narrow alleys. From Funning Lu you can see many blue/red/pink lights in there. Opposite, east of Funning Lu are also residential blocks with the same characteristic.

And then there is of course the never mentioned south of Fuxing Lu area with fewer, but still over 20 BBS.

The whole are a large number of very small alleys with many BBS. Lowest I was quoted so far was 130.

Well ... I came back to Shenzhen after being away on business for some time.

Reading the pieces in the last few weeks I expected a desert with police cars cruising and security (BaoAn) standing int he corners.

I am not sure if I have witnessed the "para-military" folks that you are talking about, but my policy is very simple. This applies to Fuxing Lu Walmart or any other district in my opinion (with the exception of Sha Tsui. DO NOT go to Sha Tsui until further notice).

If anyone in uniform appears to be following you, slowly stride towards a safe haven (a main street, for example). Make a couple of slow, relaxed turns. If you see that ANYONE in uniform appears to be following you, abort your mission slowly but surely.

There is a police shop in the middle of the Jusco alleys. There are officers at the corner that appear to be noticing everything at times. As long as they are not following, I am not concerned.

That being said, don't wander arond for too long before making your selection. You are only increasing your profile. Make one or two rounds max, and make up your mind. Walk 10 steps behind her if you are going to an apartment. Do a shoulder check as you approach the door. Bail if anyone in uniform is watching.

I few weeks ago I was in the area just east of Jusco and noticed lots of 'para-military' in the area but more ominously there were dome cameras at major intersections and other cameras liberally spread throughout the area.

I did not feel comfortable so I left the area.

Cameras in the BBS alleys is NOT a good thing.

Next time you walk around the BBS streets don't just look at the grils from the face downward but look upward as well and make sure your visit is not recorded on camera. If you see cameras in other areas (Jusco/Futian Walmart) please be sure to alert the forum.

Also, I was in Wanchai in HK last week and noticed a bus that goes straight to the Huanggang border crossing. So I took it. Is this a private company or a public bus. Do you recall the name and the number of the bus. It should be listed on the front of the bus. I'm real interested since it sounds like the bus runs 24 hours. The last time I was in Shenzhen, I couldn't find a bus company that ran in late evenings and before 6am.

For Huanguang Border, I didn't know it operated 24hrs. I recall the other border Luo Hu for Shenzhen/HK is NOT 24 hrs but I might be wrong.

Huangang is 24h. Lowu is 6-24. Most busses will leave from Shanghai St. in Prince Edwards. There are for sure a few odd locations in HK.

From Huanggang, there are plenty of people BEFORE you enter the border that will sell you bus tickets. i presume busses leave every few Minutes. Ask where they go and buy a ticket to your location. i have no idea how long the operate. I doubt that there is much very late night traffic.

I was hoping you can help. I used to visit Shenzhen regularly about 2 years ago – but only ever visited BBS near the Shang-ri-la Hotel, about 10 min walk directly north from Lowu train station.

I'm not familiar enough with the bus routes to suggest riding one of those. To get to Futian, you can definately take a taxi, it'll probably be around 20RMB. Getting to the Walmart might cost a few RMB more than getting to Jusco. Jusco is actually a big mall. The BBS's are located behind Jusco. If you're in a cab, ask to be take to Zhongxin Guangchang or JiJudao. The Walmart ones are opposite the Walmart. Since there's about 5 Walmarts in Shenzhen (1 in Shekou, 1 in OCT, 1 in Futian, 2 in Luohu), you have to specify the Futian Walmart.

If you want to buy porn DVD's, you can get them at SEG. SEG is about 5 minutes past Jusco in a cab on the same main road, Shennan Lu. When you tell the cab driver, pronounce SEG as two words as in SAI GE. There will be a bunch of guys around there saying, "DVD, DVD, DVD." Follow one of them. Bargain them down to 5RMB for each DVD. Walk out if they try to charge you more, there's plenty of other guys selling 'em. Odds are, about 70% of them will work fine, the others either skip or are unplayable.

Yes - I agree with all you guy'ses observations about pricing etc. OTOH I wud still like to get all your opinion(s) about general mongering activities in China today and what I perceive to be a "tightening" of the situation - or is it just my own paranoia? My theory is that the 'New" Chinese Leaders are at last tackling this "problem" as China is fast emerging as world Power - what with the Olympics, WTO, WHO/SARS/Bird Flu, dominance as the manufacturing source for the world etc etc - and the increasing exposure of China to the rest of the world - and the embarrament that China still needs to sell their women to one and all. If you want to feel safer, carry around a cell phone and buy a prepaid SIM for 200RMB, it comes with 50RMB in calls. In an emergency, you can always dial for help. Also, let me recommend that you not carry anything small in plain view. A big backpack is fine since it will look like you're carrying books or clothes or something, but a small one usually means a wallet and passport.

The train station/Shangri-La area of Luohu is probably the most crowded section of Shenzhen. Dongmen is also pretty crowded. Futian is less crowded, but the area behind Jusco is also pretty tight and pretty poor. There's definately less tension though. It's kind of funny that they have all those BBSes right behind the most exclusive shopping mall in Shenzhen and a block away from the former city hall. The rest of Futian is probably less crowded than Luohu and there some new sections, like the area south of the Convention Center, that are really nice. If you really want to have a good time though, KTV is the way to go, especially in Dongguan. When are you going to be in Shenzhen? If you don't mind me asking, what nationality are you?

Things are probably a little tighter right now in the higher profile areas. It's most likely because of the Mooncake festival. Things will probably return to normal once the festival is over. Regardless of the LE policy, it's always pretty easy to find girls in China. You can hang out in bars and find working girls. From what Soulman said, you can hang out at McDonald's and find girls. There's also KTV. KTV is such a big money maker for some of the hotels that there's no way they're giving that up. Even with all the perceived LE presence, I haven't had any problems getting girls at KTV.

The basic story is this. A girl from the country without an education can do one of 3 things. She can work at a factory for about 800RMB per month, work as a waitress for 500RMB per month, or work at KTV, massage, or hook and make about 10,000RMB per month. That's more than twice as much as a guy will make with a college degree working at a tech job. The crackdown this year seems worse than years past. Frankly, I am worried that it may be more than just holiday related. I'm Asian-American with a Korean heritage. Apparently, I look very Chinese. The other day, I was at a hotel and I asked something in English because I didn't know how to say it in Putonghua, as I was walking away, the girl asked her coworker why I didn't speak Chinese to them.

They all have a meter and an official cab license with photo of the driver. From the train station to Jusco is less than 10 minutes if there's no traffic. If there is traffic, it can take as long as half an hour or more. Just avoid the rush hours.

Anyway, I was at the mall today to buy some stuff, things like cheese and butter and some Korean foods. Man the mall was crowded today! I guess people had nothing better to do on National Day and decided to go to the mall.

One suggestion, instead of the bus, take a minivan. The girls at the airport who sell the service call them "limousines" but they're actually minivans. They're about 20HKD more than the bus, but you don't have to get off the minivan to go through HK immigration and customs, which is nice since you don't have to drag your luggage around. I believe you can request the driver to even take you directly to Crown Plaza. When I bought the ticket, I had requested to be dropped off at the Huanggang border, but in retrospect, I should have just asked them to drop me off where my apt is.

P.S. You better check what time the last bus runs from HKIA. I think the latest I've ever been on one is around 10:30-11:00PM. With the buses, I think you have to pay another 40-50RMB for a Shenzhen destination beyond the border and change over to a small bus at HuangGang.

In regards to the minivans, I didn't even know they existed until this trip. As I was approaching the area where they sell the bus tickets, one of the girls from one of the travel agencies approached me and asked me what I needed. I told her I needed a ride to Huanggang and she lead me to a Travel Agency inside the Airport Hotel. There they gave me a ticket and about 10 minutes later, me and the other travelers were told the car had arrived. We exited out the doors to the right (if you're leaving the hotel) and got on a minivan. When we arrived at HK immigration, I expected to have to exit the van to get my passport stamped and pass customs, but that didn't happen. Instead we got in a line that I originally though was a tollbooth of some kind, but that was actually immigration. A man took our passports at the "tollbooth," stamped them, and gave them back to us. The driver then took me to Huanggang and dropped me off right in front of Chinese immigration. The other passengers stayed in the car. I presume they were headed to other parts of Shenzhen, Dongguan, or Guangzhou. I believe there may very well be a "tollbooth" setup for Chinese immigration as well since these other people didn't leave the minivan. I'll have to check it out next time.

Thanks for the tips on the bus from HKIA to SZ.

I've taken both "limo" van and bus both ways. Limo vans is way to go without the need to get off the bus for border entry. The last bus to Hunaggang used to be 12:30 AM. The bus from HG to hotels stop around 8 PM I think so it's taxi ride to hotels. There're plenty of DG taxis too.

PS - Moody, I came across a 19 yr old girl at HJ Sheraton with nice big tits on my last trip in early August. She looked like a model too. But she costed arm and leg... I brought her to CP and she carried NO id, let alone pass to get into SZ. Had to pay a snake off Nantou 100RMB to bring her in. I gave her 1200 RMB but she was pissed saying I owe her 1600 RMB plus 300 RMB for taxi back to HJ. By the way I use private car taxi and they charge about 250 RMB between CP and HJ.
