Arrived Tuesday night and leaving today. Apart from my phone being pickpocketed and me wasting a night that I had planned to spend at the clubs I had a Great trip. Going to try to make this not too long.
Safety is always a huge concern for people that come on here wondering about Bogota so I'm going to start on this again. I've mentioned it in previous posts I've done but I honestly feel safety is in your perception of being threatened. I'm from the NYC area so everyday I'm around a lot of people, some down and out on their luck, homeless, mentally ill, etc. It's kinda what you get for living in a massively populated city. Bogota is colombias massive populous city so with it you get that same mix of problems. I never felt threatened. I repeat for everyone that needs to hear it again. I never felt threatened. Now I will say that if you're visiting Bogota from say a small Texas town or smaller city where you are not visibly seeing this part of your city and perhaps interacting with it you are going to feel sometimes slightly on edge as all this stuff is out of your normal. So as in all large cities be aware of your surroundings and what you are carrying with you and you'll be fine. Specifically for my pickpocketing incident I let my guard down. The last time I had been pickpocketed was the exact same situation in Mexico City. For this I was Getting onto the transmillenio at Calle 26 as I was too lazy to walk down to Calle 22 from hotel ibis. You will notice that Colombians have a strange habit of not moving out of the way of the doors if it's not the bus they want so it causes a bottleneck as people try to squeeze through small gaps to get on and off the bus and pickpockets use that to their advantage. My stupid fault was that I had my phone and wallet in each one of my Jean pockets and I couldn't necessarily put hands in both my pockets while pushing into the bus. 4 or 5 guys pushed past me through the small gap of people not moving waiting for the other bus and that's when one of them grabbed my phone from my pocket. I knew straight away but the doors of the bus had already closed and even if I could get out I didn't know which of the guys it was. After this I was more attentive. I wore a collared shirt that specifically has those shirt pockets so that I could put my phone in it as well as my "banging" cash with a sweater on covering it. My Jean pocket had a couple of rubbers and small change for drinks and honestly if someone was going to get that then it's a small price to pay than my phone and larger sum of money.

If you're staying at the ibis or tequandema then just walk down carrera 7 all the way. The road is closed just past the highway and it becomes a walking / cycling street. You'll eventually end up in Candeleria and plaza bolivar. It's most fun on the weekend when the markets are much larger. Across from exito is a coffee shop that sells a bunch of old vinyl records that you could spend some time in. Also right next to there are some other vinyl shops in a small "mall" type building. In addition if you were looking for something to do and you can rent a bike then do it on Sunday when Carrera 7 is closed for a long way and cyclists are out and about. If you're into coffee then stop at Jaguar coffee just off Carrera 7 and experience some great coffee experiences for a farm to table coffee house. Others have said about the chicken. For some reason there's literally a ton of fire grilled chicken places down the road.
Also if you're staying at the Ibis just walk up the hill and turn left on Carrera 5 down to La perserverncia market. It's become popular now because of the Netflix series but the food there is great. Basically about 10-15 vendors all selling their food in a small hall eating space. It gets busy at lunch but show up before 11:30 or after 1:30 and you usually don't wait. Even if you don't the wait isn't long. About 10 minutes.

When I hardly spoke Spanish the prospect of losing translator and map was scarier to me than a financial loss, so I always brought a backup phone with me that I keep in the room.
When crowded in public transport I tend keep my hand on the phone, my main wallet in the other jeans pocket attached to the belt by a piece of durable string (detached originally from a travel neck wallet). Yes, they could still cut it, but it isn't visible at first glance and saved me couple times already. I guess one could use chain as well. That wallet can be zipped too, though my laziness gets better of me and I rarely do. It also helps ensure wallet will stay with me if I'd accidently drop it or smth.
There are also so called flip-in wallets that might help in the fight against pickpockets (like Deuter security flip-in wallet) which I use for keys, card, passport (if I have to take it out with me) and some emergency cash.
When traveling solo into unknown I usually wear money belt with some backup cash and, when particularly paranoid of being robbed at gun / knife point (so not that often), I keep some cash in a sock.

1. During daytime, everything's open after 1 or 2 PM, but the clubs are relatively empty. To say the less.
2. You can always come in, sit and chill. But well, you will not be very appreciated if you don't order a beer or something (and the beer is 3 times the usual price).
3. The carrera 7 is really a good option. But if you want my advice: very close, you have a neighborhood called La Macarena. Really nice for westerners / gringos, with good restaurants and shops. You'll feel at home and it's a 20 mn walk from Santa Fe. Be careful, it's uphill, though.
4. If you want to stay in the very center, the lowest part of Chapinero and the Parkway. But if you like cabs and uber, try upper Chapinero or Usaquen.

Yes, you can go to the clubs at those times but ultimately I think you'll walk away disappointed and probably disgruntled about your visit. To give you an example when I went the first 2 times to Bogota I went sometimes between 4-6 pm. I was sometimes only 1 of 4-5 guys with 4-6 girls max in some places. If you can swing it and do something like 7/8-10 pm you'd have a better time. Having said that, if those early hours are the only times you can go then you may find that even though there are fewer girls and it's not really a club atmosphere one of the girls may be your type. But you also run the risk of walking in and there potentially being absolutely no one. No worries though as you just walk out. First time I did that I felt awkward but now it's happened a few times it doesn't bother me anymore. My first night here and I accidentally walked into Club Dubai at about 8 pm because I thought I was walking into paisas. Dubai is usually not busy anyways but Walk in and it's this small room with 1 girl sitting at the bar on her phone and no customers. I turn around to leave and the guy tries to convince me to stay but ultimately I leave. As long as you knew that up front then hopefully you shouldn't be disappointed if the pickings of girls in the clubs are slim. On this trip (my 3rd one here) I didn't bother visiting the clubs before 7:30 pm because of this in my previous trips.
2. No minimum. On this trip I would usually just walk into each of the clubs (Troya, paisas, fiebre, Antones, Venus, Texas) and plan that I was going to have 1 drink. Had to pace myself or switch between beer and water / Powerade. A mesero from the street will always follow you in except sometimes at Fiebre when you may end up ordering at the bar so just make sure you have 10 and 20 mil notes as a poker and water are 8-10 k. Usually by the time I finished the drink I had an idea of what girls were there and if that club was going to be a good one for the night. Every club seems to have their night. Antones was great for me on Friday whereas the next night it wasn't and fiebre and Venus were better. Also many of the girls will go back and forth between clubs so you may see a girl from Venus in paisas or a girl from Antones in troya, etc. That was one of the best parts as the clubs are right next door to each other you just end up bouncing from club to club and basically seeing almost every girl that night. On Saturday night fiebre and Antones told me I couldn't go upstairs unless I buy a bottle of liquor or sometimes if a girl couldn't dance for you in the downstairs part because it was crowded she would take you up and use on of the seats up there but you didn't have to buy anything for that apart from the dance and a drink for the girl if you wanted her to stay and talk. But in short there's no minimum. If I knew Spanish more I'the walk into more of the slower ones to say I'm just looking and then leave but I felt awkward doing that.
3. Lots of fun places but anywhere round La Candelaria and the plaza whole area, Zona T, the walk down Carrera 7 from the Ibis to plaza bolivar. Parque 93. There's a few. If you're into certain hobbies or whatever you could also look for shops. For instance I'm into vinyl record collecting and anything coffee so there's a load of vinyl.
Shops around as well as artisanal coffee places, etc.
4. Don't have any info on short term places. As far as a hotel though you'd be hard pressed to not be somewhere like Hotel Ibis Bogota Museo. There are of course a load of nicer ones further north but It's a short walk during the day and early evening hours to SF, a short walk to the Calle 26 T bus to get you straight to Calle 22, across the road from the museo nacional bus station for taking you up north to Zona T, etc, BBC brewing company a couple of blocks up, the perseverencia market, some restaurants, etc. Also many of the taxi drivers in the small yellow cabs outside the clubs knew where the ibis was or at least knew where the Museo Nacional was. I would show it to them on my google maps on my phone but could also just say Carrera 10 then turn left and they were happy.

I do enjoy the party scene so I'll be aiming to do the weekends mostly in that case but will probably pop my head in earlier midweek too, just to get the lay of the land. By now I'm used to leaving slow clubs soon after arrival, but yes, it can be awkward at times, especially when there's only a couple customers and girls and there is this kind of 'intimate' atmosphere -- your every move is being watched and all eyes on you when you stand up to leave hah.

Hey why'all I'm in need of a vacation ASAP. Work is killer.
I was plannng on revisiting Tijuana or Cartagena but I hear too much about price gouging and buzz killingtons lately so I'm open to new place like Bogota or Medellin. Do you guys have any preference of the 2? I've been reading the last few weeks and it seems pretty even. The thing that is convincing me is the lower prices and Colombian women.
I would usually aim for an airbnb in a nice centralized location. Is there one region (Bogota or Medellin) that is better situated without having to do Uber or taxi. I watched some videos but they only tell so much.

Stay safe!I was talking about the greater Bogota area, or metropolitan Bogota, which (I now looked it up) is 11.5 million, and greater Medellin which is just over 4 million as of the end of 2022. In Medellin this would include Bello, and Envigado, both of which are part of Medellin as we know it. Anyway, they are large cities and you do need to get around by means of some other transportation than just walking. And Spanish would be very useful in both as you will not find a lot of English speaking outside of places that cater to tourists.

Many of the guests have stayed there many times.

I've seen maybe 25 off of photoprepagaros. Only real bad experiences have been with blurred photos. Well, and 1 time I fell for the angled photos and she was latina Shaq. Girls without blurred photos have been pretty much spot on appearance-wise. Attractive ones (which is relative, but mine is 18 to 24 year old spinner without tons of makeup) have been essentially exactly as advertised or better. It's not like the US where it's super old pictures and / or they are all drugged out.
My experience has been over half force the full time on you and make sure you have a nice time. Some are just all business but still good. Of course you will get a few that either don't click or try and get you out in like 15 minutes, but now I only do 30 minutes for a first meet and make sure to get prices for extras in whatsapp before. I booked an airbnb for March (in late Jan) in a very large building with 24/7 security and asked about guests. They said no problem and security has not even made them sign in. I do have a keycard that lets me enter on my own, but security is always there but I just walk by. My visitors are very civilian looking though. A keycard is also required for your floor in the elevator, so maybe they care a bit less for that reason.
Of all the other airbnbs I messaged the ratio of ones that required 24 hour notice or 1 hour notice vs "No" vs "No Problem" felt no different than last year.

The only rule (not law) applies to "conjuntos residentiales" (you're obvisouly in one) where security has to register all the entries. They have no right to ask for an official ID. Just to ask for a name, firstname and ID number (the number, not the passport, not the ID card. They are not police). And if you're allowing the entrance, they can not object anything. It's clearly an abuse. And your host is just lying to your face (or to your ear, whatever). I've experienced dozen of AirBnB, hotels. Never happened. In a hotel, though, the ministry of tourism allows them to ask for the official ID.

Good post, JDS. Fiebre has Gatorade which is a nice change from the other clubs that have water only. I did the Woodman tour, and he is a great guy, but what I saw the most was that SF was really not that dangerous and Woodman confirmed it. There are cops all around.
Main danger I heard was getting your beer spiked. Like you, I am not a big drinker and think it is better to keep your wits about you when in SF.
Only other thing to say is you can get Uber to take you there, but it is hell getting one to come pick you up. I have leaned to go for the taxis when leaving but they tend not to be too bright with directions so I have had to use google maps.
For hotels, Ibis let me bring guests back, but the rooms are on par with Motel 6. I heard Hotel Oceania was nice but there was a guest fee, but my favorite hotel that is about a five minute cab ride away, the NH 26 urban royal. I am not sure about guests there, but the buffet and rooms are really nice.
That area also has an Anytime Fitness, only one in Colombia I think.

More so than in other mongering places, some of the Sg's also come into the clubs. Noticed that more in bar California / Texas and sometimes Venus than others. Just wanted to piggy back onto this about taxis. I had zero luck with Uber or didi ever bringing me back to the ibis. Don't know if it's because of Santa Fe or if it's because it's a short ride and so not much money for the driver to do it. Getting to Santa Fe is usually the easy part as you're probably going there when there are a multitude of options (bus, taxi, ride share, walking) but getting back it helps to not be too intimidated by the small taxis driving all over the place.
When you get in there's usually some form of a tiny box with numbers somewhere around the roof of the car either on the passenger side or next to the driver. That's the fare cost. It never went higher than 7500 pesos for me when going from the clubs back to the ibis museo so I always had a 10 k note that I'the keep in a separate pocket for my ride home. If they're driving just stare at a driver as he's driving towards you and put your hand out. Others will wait outside the clubs. I got friendly with some meseros while there and they always got me a taxi when I let them know I was finished for the night. I got ripped off once but I knew it going in and didn't know enough Spanish nor did I care when the guy said it would be 20 k cop to do the same 7500 k cop ride. I didn't tip him obviously. Last tip is screenshot your hotel directions in google maps or whatever you use and screenshot the map of the road the driver needs to take. Some just plain don't know where the hotel is and you have to use hand gestures to tell them where to drive and some will look at your phone to know where to go. Screenshot it as sometimes depending on who you have for cell phone service it's f annoying when you don't have a signal and it takes forever yo get the directions on your phone for the driver.

Would've hella expensive for your ride if you started out in NYC (only the 5 boros). This is not for NY state as a whole to be clear for those not familiar.

And also in Bogota vs the usa. I've had no issues the last 6 months getting an Uber to or out of Santa Fe no matter if it's 8 pm or 1:00 am. The drivers picking up are usually a lot of fun to talk to as well, since they know what you were up to. Data point is back and forth to central chapinero.
I think it's more about their ability to get other riders. I have no way of knowing, but I don't have issues between high volume / not magority residential locations. Also Uber in Colombia is a different model than the usa, so it's possible they see different things in Colombia. You are renting or leasing the driver here. In USA I believe the driver does get a notice that it's a greater than 45 minute ride.
The Uber problems I have is for my girlfriends that are very very north and like Carrera 90-100, and only after like 9 pm when I am getting them a ride home.

Friday santa fe was pretty quiet, one club was open with very few girls. Street was also pretty empty.

A few weeks ago I noticed a new venue right next to tantra run by the same place. It's called Tantra bar and it has a casa layout. Says they are open 2 hours later and they serve booze. Always try and pay with 10's for drinks and at the most 20 mil. If you go higher then that the mesero will typically disappear and have to find change. Once at troya I saw my guy walk up to the bar to get change, they told him no, he then walked out and about 10 minutes later came back with 35 mil. Should have been change of 40 mil but I didn't complain as who knows where he ended up going to get my change. Anyways, point is don't pay for 1 x10 mil beer with a 50 or larger. You'll end up having to remember who your mesero is otherwise.

Everyone else has said the same thing but just to be clear, The only difference between HK in Tijuana and the clubs in Santa Fe is that there's no hotel that you can stay the night at attached to the club like Hotel Cascadas.
Everything else is the same. You negotiate with the girls downstairs in the club and then you go upstairs to the rooms to do your thing. But as mentioned the room isn't like your hotel room where you can leave your stuff. It's more like when you go to HK and you didn't book a night at the Cascadas. The waiters at Troya don't appear to be uniformed employees, but freelancers who are allowed to assume the role of waitstaff. Another problem with Troya is that when I went to take a piss, someone had taken my beer away and another party was sitting at my table. Troya is a fun place, but you are really exposed there.
I think it was back in 2017 when I was in Santa Fe, I also had some clown on the street direct me into one club whose name I can't recall (it was pretty gritty) and take my drink order once I got seated. My tip is to break your 50's and 100's at a local OXXO. Across the road from the Ibis Museo there's one so each day I would get a water and candy and pay with a 50 or 100 and they happily give change back. Always try and pay with 10's for drinks and at the most 20 mil. If you go higher then that the mesero will typically disappear and have to find change.
