Unless you are close to fluent, using a lot of slang just sounds silly. Best to stick to the basics until you master the language a bit, IMHO.
I couldn't agree more, just imagine the Indian guy at the mini-mart on the corner using the latest slang, you'd be laughing your ass off. Using slang requires a deep and intimate understanding of the culture and language to pull off. If you're a newbie and you use it in the right context, often, you'll still sound funny.
Hi
I'm off to Colombia next month. I normally go to CTG as I have friends there. I'm not a Colombia newbie by any means and I speak passable Spanish. More passable with a few aguadentes inside me
I visited Medellin once before and enjoyed it. I'll be in Colombia this time for two weeks and I'm thinking it's a bit long to spend only in CTG so am considering other places. Lima is top of my list right now, but Medellin would be much more convenient.
I like bars and clubbing, so LDV and Elektra and the other options in CTG are perfect for me. Should I go to Medellin?
Go on, convince me!

Hello:
I am coming week after next on my maiden voyage to MDE and Colombia. Been to SA dozen of times or so but never here.
I have narrowed it down to two housing options for my one week stay, which may stretch to two weeks. One is an interesting looking posada/hostel on Calle 35, which appears to be a dead end street from the map, and close to Lleras, etc. A private room with bath is $40 US and the website appears nice.
The other is a beautiful looking, new, and modern one bedroom apartment for $80 US. However, that is located on 8th on the opposite side of Rt.25 from Lleras. It is adjacent to the new SF mall, large book store and grocery store in the area called Golden Mile.
Not being familiar with the city, I am uncertain which lodging to select. Not much of a mall fan and don't want to constantly cross a busy highway to get to Lleras as it seems most of the activity is there.
Any thoughts from MDE vets?
Brothers, The us media is reporting murders and violence in Medellin. Deeper looking discuss a drug war is active and effects most barios in the city.
AS monger who visit varies parts of the city, often late at night, what effect, if any, does the violence have on you?
Pre-Uribe, Colombia was a dangerous place. Are the old days returning?
Hello Miami Bob,
Granjefe already replied to your first question about this. See few posts down. Media reports are almost always much worse than it really is, unless you are are in a true combat zone. In that case, it is the opposite. You seem to be worrying too much. Go there, have fun and report back.
"When I feel like going over budget I go to Luna Lunera in Laureles.
I try to get a couch seat and then I look over the hot Chicas. For me I like this place better than Fase Dos or Grill San Diego.
Ah, Pleyboy brings back nice thoughts of CTG."
Yeah, I was looking for a good place to go on a sunday before I left and I ended up in Luna Lunera. The quality of the girls wasnt as good but for a Sunday it was amazing haha. I ended up picking a girl at Grill san diego though....bad choice. Id definately go to luna luneras on a friday or something like that. It looks like it would be amazing. Damn, hey vicks pics when are you going to medellin? Im thinking of going in DEcember. If u dont mind hangin with a younger guy Id love to tag along. I need a girl thats a 10 out of 10 haha.
And dont go to Inter on a sunday. Im not too sure if it will be good but I fucked one of the hottest girls there and she gave me her number and told me to call her on Sunday becasue she wasnt working.....so Im guessing that inter will just be full of ugly chicks bro. From what I saw luna luneras is good for a Sunday. Im so upset i never got to go a different day though.
"if they ever heard carinoso/a being used as expensive-none have."
Hmm now im not too sure. im second guessing myself though. Ill have to check. But yeah its always safe to stick to the basics I guess.
Again, I learn more and more about MDE. I must check this joint out on my next visit. As I am bringing a small crew of MDE newbes for my upcoming trip and we arrive on a Sunday afternoon, the pressure is on me to produce a good opening to the trip. Any thoughts on how a Sunday night at Club Inter would be?
Or any other ideas for a Sunday? One ISG member has already sugested New Life, but a backup plan is always good.
New life closes earlier on Sunday like around 5:30pm so you have to go there as soon as you guys get in.
I believe Club Inter would be closed on Sunday. On a Sunday night San Diego & Fase II are open but expensive as you know. Perhaps International Doll House if it's open on Sunday for independents? Not sure if Luna Lunera is open on Sunday's either.
You know the Mayorista scene can be ify on Sundays as well unless there is a holiday on that Monday or if it's a pay weekend.
This is one of the best reasons why so Many guys stay at the Mansion/Casa Blanca, there are always girls available at the drop of a phone call or two or three.

I've been to loutron, aren, the upstairs part, pleyboy in Cartagena, barra ejuctivo, conejitas, another strip club by barra ejuctivo, inter and san diego show (on a Sunday night so it was shit).
Out of all these places I did not find any 10s. WHere do you guys think the hottest girls are? I'm talking about chicas car audio caliber. Kereena at loutron was smokin but thats the only one I saw. And the one I did at pleyboy but I will most likely be returning to medallo.
The hottest girls (for viewing) in Medellin can be found at Parque Lleras on any Friday or Saturday night. Getting with those caliber girls is of course a whole new ball game and not a mongers choice for hunting. But you did ask where the HOTTEST girls are.
BTW- For those of you who haven't been to Cartagena. The name of the club there is actually Pley Club and not Pleyboy. You can check out their site at pleyclub.com
Some real hottie's for sure can be found there. Here is one I met there and arranged for her to visit my apartment the next afternoon therefore bypassing the multa (barfine to take her out at night). Her name was Mia which suits her fine because when I saw those tits bursting out of her tube top I said "Mama Mia"!
Cheers,
Cubanut

That is indeed near Santa Marta
Turns out he grew up in Baranquilla (where Shakira is from) but he went to law school (which he never finished) in Cartagena and worked as a journalist there, then went back to Baranquilla, lived in Bógota for a while, Barcelona, and now lives in México, and has for a long time.

While I was there in Envigaso I heard about 2 gunshots in the cabalgata and then a guy running with a huge pistol. Then at night I heard 4 gunshots in Envigado. Also before I arrived about 7 people got killed in la bota. They arent targeting civilians but if your in the wrong place at the wrong time. Thats it. I wouldn't say its thaat dangerous though. I ll take my chances.

Isn't that consistent with what I said Márquez said? Lots of people in the Spanish-speaking world address their parents and grandparents with Ud. but not their siblings and kids.
