Posts: 6522The shorted path to PED EAST
You mean the old taxi drop off point at the foot bridge?
The old SENTRI lane, which is now the exclusive bus lane, was open, but most time closed or jammed up with a line of buses waiting to cross the border. Taxis used to drive up that lane and drop off passengers at the foot bridge. Now it's closed for buses only. Sometimes there is a policia with a saw horse blocking the street.
That's the dark street on which you would walk with the park on your right hand side, BUS and SENTRI lanes on your left, under the taxi bridge, towards the giant TV screen, to PED EAST. It's dark, deserted and scary at night. There are homeless people living and sleeping in that park at night; a good place for rateros to ambush tourists.
The get on PED WEST, you have to walk into the friendship plaza behind the McDonalds on the WEST side of freeway 5, very dark and deserted at night, no less scary.
At night it may be safer to walk among the cars on ready lanes. There are always drivers waiting in line all night, less likely for assaults and robberies to happen. Tell the cabbies to drop you off at the medico lane used by ambulances with the small policia guard post, which is on the high point over the Tijuana river, mid way to the Caliente drop off point. Walk 500 feet down hill, head for that giant TV screen, and you are at the entrance to PED EAST. That's the shortest path and least work.

Okay I got to cross the border at like 3 to 4 am to catch my flight back, when I come down in a few week. I don't like this stuff of walking down dark alleys with my luggage at this hour at night and don't want to have to cross during the night and spend a night in SD. Are there any other crossings for getting back on the USA side?
Thanks.

Maybe if we all nicely ask Mexican customs or tell the yellow cab drivers to talk to the city ordenances to provide a more safe drop off area for their customers and tourist. We not asking for much just a well luminated cab drop off and maybe a policia too.
Dropping women at this area is just criminal.
I will try to walk along the ready lane cars next time. I just feel that new drop off is freaking dangerous they should have some policia around in night.
Can you carry s small pepper spray legally in Tijuana?
Thank you Captain for this great info.

Ped East is on the East side of Freeway 5. If the cabbie dropped you off at the old SENTRI car lane just West of Caliente, which is now blocked off for buses only, then that is the closest path. You then walk along the park on your right, under the bridge, towards the overhead foot bridge and the pedestrian line East. Have never seen policia along that walk, and no passengers pick up or discharge is allowed there.
If he drives East past Caliente, turn left at the end of the road before the rail road track, climb up to that bridge and left you off there, that is the new taxi pick up spot. You would then walk a longer path with the park on your left, along a row of shops and parking lots on your right, which is even darker and scarier than the last option, but most times I have seen groups of policias on foot patrol.
The safest walking path at night would be along the cars in ready lane, starting at the medical gate, then cut East and join the pedestrian line at the foot bridge, heading for that giant TV screen.

The stupid cab driver dropped me at a very dark area where there was small park or trees don't remember well.
Then I had to walked under a bridge and continue walking to the long corridor that ended at the cbp building.
The cab driver told me it was the closest to the sentri building he can go and that he couldn't get any closer.
I remember in the old days the cab used to dropped me at the curb where there was always a Tijuana cop.
Now it is a very dark and creepy walk back to ped Sentri.
Can the cab driver do better than this are any other stops closer to the building so I can tell him next time?
I alway asked the driver to drop me at the ped sentri.

Posts: 22411 Murdered in Tijuana, Mexico
FYI,
Latin American Herald Tribune, October 10 2016.
Several masked gunmen attacked a taco stand Sunday, killing one person and wounding another individual.
At least 11 people were murdered in and around the Mexican border city of Tijuana in separate incidents over the weekend, police said. The death toll this year already at nearly 5,400, according to press tallies.
I really like eating tacos at the taco stands. My concealed body armor vest is on order. I love Mexico!

Posts: 2569When I head back I try and walk with other people if possible. I will probably start taking taxi until things become more clear about crime situation. Given the close proximity of the police station It is ridiculous that the police do not have more patrols on the pedestrian street.

The hotels record street girls' names every time they take a monger in. Looks like they have some sort of incentive / kick back system going with the girls. 700 pesos is only 1 trip to the hotel. Perhaps they deduct that rental fee the first time they bring a guy in.
I keep hearing the 10-ficha fee for Adelita and HK. That costs the girls only 300 pesos per shift, which is not a big deal, considering the girls get 1000 to 2000 pesos for a trip upstairs. For sure the bars push the girls to sell either fichas or sex, or go home. They just cannot hang out for free and not producing any thing for the bars forever. I know many HK girls who could not make enough money and just quit after a few months.
I think you get along well with many of the working girls and bars' workers. Can you ask questions and do a survey to bring some first-hand understanding into this problem?

Posts: 2569700 pesos seems on the high side. I have also noticed that some of the hotels have lockers for the SG's. I really dislike how the many of SG's will only go to the hotel are standing in front or a certain hotel. The worst part is when they try only give you 10 or 15 minutes. This another reason why I go with the street walker girls. I always go to the Curtaro something across from the Cascada hotel. They almost never bother about time. I have been there 30 minutes with a girl and they do not say anything. The rooms are spartan, but clean. I can never remember the name of the Curtaro, because there is no name on the front of the hotel.

The SGs bring business to the hotels in which they stand in front of; who are they paying 700 pesos to?
The BGs, many even in HK, will not get 10 fichas. And the other bars, like BG, CC, I seriously doubt if they get 2-3 fichas a shift.
