I have no experience. But I will rent for a few months or even a year if necessary to see if I like the location. The problem I see purchasing property in SA is they are very illiquid.

Another way I will look at it is to estimate how many years I will stay in the property, then make cost comparison vs renting. The advantage of renting is you can live in newer place and move around whenever you want.

The way I probably will do it is to have a property elsewhere like US but it would cost more. Then use the rent income to rent property in Brazil.

I don't think I want to be in the middle of the tornado in Copa, but I don't want to be more than 40 minutes away in case I want some action and I don't want to spend more than 150 k dollars. I have looked in Recreio, Jacarepagu, Niteroi, Ilha do Governador and Barra. I even talked to some locals about moving into Vidigal or Babilnia.

I have no property in Rio, but I've helped several friends who have bought apartments, houses and land in Rio. If I understand you right you need a house (not apartment), costing no more than 150'000 USD and less than 40 minutes from Copacabana. In Zona Sul you won't have many choices that fills all those criterias.

Vidigal and Babilônia could be good options. There are some really nice houses with great views in Vidigal but I doubt 150'000 USD will get you any of the nicer houses. Babilônia and Chapéu Mangueira also have some nice houses. There are big houses with great ocean views in the lower part of Babilônia, but those are too expensive. In the upper part of Babilônia there are lots of smaller houses with great views. There are some disadvantages with those houses in the upper part of Babilônia. Just stairs to get there (no road or moto-taxis), plenty of mosquitos because of the forest and a bit risky because of when one gang enter the favela to fight with controlling gang they usually enter by the forest in Babilônia and Chapéu Mangueira. I've seen plenty of properties for sale in both Vidigal and Babilônia, be prepared for some crazy prices.

Buying Property in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

1. To buy or not to buy, that is the question.

My view is do not buy property in Brazil. Rent. The reason is geopolitical risk. Russia and America are at war, and Brazil is neutral. Fucking gringos is the main source of GDP and income for the GDPs and all the Brazilians in the GDP supply chain, including realtors. You want to be able to put all your trash in a bag and GTFO, even if you stay here for the rest of your natural life which lasts 100 years. That said.

2. If you buy property in RJ.

See the attached map. This is the most important map in Rio. This is the metro map. This is how most.

Cariocas get around.

1. Metro Jardim Oceanico. Search for places as near to Ave de pepe 400 (Perola Negra), or Olegario.

Maciel 7 (Na Brasa Colombia) as possible. PN is the best terma in Rio IMHO. We had a great night.

Guanabarra supermarket has a mall, with the best pricing on groceries.

Barra Garden is closest to the famed Transamerica (av gastao senges 395).

Senor Nordico wanted to know where the fair (the street market) is. This is a legit question, and I will answer it and other questions about Barra Malls here.

First, the Tuesday morning street fair is just next to the Barra Garden shopping center, near the gas station, where the Riviera condo intersects with Ave das Americas. I go there to get Salmon for 110 r a kilo (compared to 100 r for. 4 kilos in the pricey market). What does this have to do with whoring?

Well, I have a girl with me for like pernoite 4 or 5, and she hasn't asked for money, but I feed her, and we do the churrasco together on the balcony.

Across the street is the best sports store, Decathalon, which is where I recommend you shop for your trip to Rio or Brazil. This is where you can get the sandals you can shower and fuck in Villagemall is just down the main street, Av das Americas. This has the best high end rich demographic.

Selection -- apple store, super luxury movie theaters, very nice restaurants.

Barra Shopping. Further down Ave das Americas, this is the main shopping center, with a statue of Liberty, sitting there like a allusion to planet of the apes, and perhaps too to City of God, which may intersect, thematically.

Ave Olegario Maciel 7 (Na Brasa Colombia) counts as a mall too, as the whole street is a high end shopping district. This is at Metro Jardim Oceanico, and it is near the best terma IMHO in Rio, Perola Negra. PN is Ave de Pepe 400.

Paris Cafe is further down towards Recreio, and further still in that direction is Praia Abrico, and even further past Praia Abrico is Cafe Marambaia, where the best Paella in Rio can be had.

2. Botafogo. Search for places at or near Rua Sao Clemente 114, close to the best sex motel, Panda.

Then you can take the metro to centro and take the bus to Solarium, and all the wealthy, upper middle.

Class districts between botafogo and PUC, where you should take Portuguese if you stay long enough.

1. Botafogo is the real, upper middle class, but mixed race carioca the gema neighborhood. You should.

Also consider Flamengo, Largo do Machado, and even Catete.

Do not stay in Copa. Copa is dangerous, the water is dirty, basically a toilet bowl. Criminals go to Copa to find victims. Be the bat, not the ball. Most board members have different views about Copa which is kind of times square compared to Barra being Miami.

We wake up late afternoon. We both feel exhausted and so we stay in and order something from rappi to be delivered to us. It's nothing special, just some cheap steaks with rice and beans. As we eat in silence I reminisce of our last meeting in SP in November.

SAUDADE DE SAMPA.

It is November and I wake up in Sao Paulo. The night before I was in Scandallo celebrating with three other trusted forum members I can call true friends. The clock strikes midnight and we celebrate as I share a birthday with one of my fellow brother in arms. A bottle of tequila is ordered and we take shots in the middle of the dance room of scandallo. This is my first time tasting liquor. I end up taking 8 shots one after another. I am in a different continent, in the biggest city on that patch of land, in the biggest and best club in that city with friends I made just two months ago who flew out to celebrate this moment in time. Life is good. Just the week before I was in a head on car accident that I somehow walked away from mostly unscathed while my beloved steed was crushed and totaled, he did his job and I will live for the both of us. Our celebration attracts attention and my fellow birthday boy finds himself a piece he likes. She happens to have a sister who also joins in the fun. The bottle goes empty and our spirits high! The sister starts talking with me as we begin to explain why we are celebrating. It seems they are ready to take each of us out for the night to commemorate our birthdays. Funny enough the night before at Cafe Photo, My brother and I took two girls out who were friends that came down from campinas the same day. Seems we share the same taste in women as we do birthdays. As a birthday gift I talk with the girls and ask if they would do a dupla with my friend and sure enough it's on the table. So I arrange it and pay for the other sister to go with her sister and treat my brother to the ever so elusive sister threesome. They looked so similar that they could have been twins to be honest! Harley was waiting for me in the morning and my brother's girl cancelled on him at the last minute and I would not stand for this so I did the next best thing so he too can have a tale to tell. I wake up the next morning in my hotel room, surprisingly without a hangover. I get ready for harley and she arrives at 10 am. I surprise her with a big ass teddy bear, flowers, chocolates and some photo prints from our last trip. She melts and we immediately pick off where we left off. We head off to asturias and we get the biggest room they have. It's super nice with a heated pool and a retractable roof. The bedroom is decent but the mirror set up could be better. We play some music over the bluetooth speakers and start having fun. I recently got on PrEP (this is what most experienced members use to avoid STDs, look it up and use it on your next trip) so this time around we end up doing BBFS. I feel like a roman senator as I sit on the edge of the pool with the waterfall crashing into it as my Germanic pet services me as I drink from a glass of wine with the classical fresco art on the wall. We have a blast in the pool and eventually a song starts playing that my lover begins to sing along to. I pick her up and spin her around gently as we dance to this melody she sweetly sings to me. With the sun hitting the stain glass roof, my view is a heavenly one. We drink, smoke and fuck for the next 5 hours. My fellow brothers in arms had arranged for us to go to SEEN which apparently is one of most difficult bar / restaurants to get in because it's always packed and you have to reserve at least one week ahead of time. Luckily one of them has connections and we are able to score a table. So we order some pizza from the front desk to sober up and off we go. We arrive and wait a bit to get seated and views are great! Food is awesome and we order some champagne. We all toast the night and our luck. The two non birthday brothers congratulates us as they head off to find their adventures at the boates. Birthday bro and I split the check and our girls are ready to dance. Harley suggests SUTTON a nice rooftop club. Also very difficult to get into but we try our luck and get in with no issues! Finally a club that plays american music and not just brazilian funk. We drink and dance the night away as I throw harley all around the dance floor. Another couple notices our energy and the girl begins to make out with harley and ask if we're down to swap. These brazilians kkkk. We decline and dance for the next 4 hours. We end up leaving with the sunrise at 5 am. We didn't end up using all of our included drinking cover so we haul a big bag of drinks to our hotel. We stumble to our hotel at 6 am and grab a shower and some shower sex. We don't sleep until 7 am. 21 hours of pure non stop fun. I wake up at noon to pack up and get ready for my flight. She wakes up at 4 pm and we're back at it. One last ride before my flight. We share our goodbyes and promise to meet up again on her birthday. What a adventure that will be I think.

BUZIOS.

Our last day in Arraial was just a stay in day. We just sat by the balcony and pool area. Night rolled over and we just quietly spent the night away getting ready for tomorrow. I decided to keep moving forward to buzios as I honestly really wanted to see what the hype was about as many forum members have praised this place. I already traveled 3. 5 hrs and it would be a shame to get so close and not reach my destination. The next morning we get picked up by the girl who runs the ondaarraial business to take us to our airbnb in buzios and then go horseback riding on the beach. Really interesting girl as she speaks english, spanish and porto. We end up talking about many things since I haven't spoken english in so many days. The weather gets bad and so we end up just dropping off our bags and getting a bite to eat at a nearby cafe. The airbnb was something else. It had a bar with a huge pool overlooking the beach below and a hot tub on the second floor next to our room. It was like a ibiza villa. We lounge around the huge estate and settle in and drink up the views. Night comes and we head off the a circus that's in town. VIP seats are 35 BRL so we get front row seats. We get pulled in some acts and she's loving it. We get some snacks during the intermission which I later learned was a mistake. The show is over and the night goes well. She laments how she used to be an actress at local theater productions and used to do some circus performances. Brought back lots of memories. We head off to praia do canto where there are many shops and restaurants. It's a pretty upscale place with lots of argentine people speaking spanish and english. We grab a bite before heading back home. Harley gets another stomach ache from the circus food. Shame but what could I do.

The next morning I get up to enjoy some breakfast while harley is still recovering. I head downstairs and meet another american. We chat and talk about work life and how unreliable some girls can be. His brazilian friend joins us and we all take some shots of expensive whiskey at 10 am in a high rise pool overlooking praia the ferradura. They rented a buggy and invite me to go on a boat ride since the brazilian owns a boat renting company. I grab my stuff and tell harley I'll be back late and off I go. We ride around the town like we've been friends for 2 decades and not only for 2 hours kkkkk. Other brazilians and argentines pass by us in their colorful buggys, 4 x4's and ATVS with funk music and laughter blaring from their rides. It truly is a beach town getaway. We stop by a local street market to get some fresh juices and food, delicious. Next stop is the ferradura beach to get some laps in and burn those calories. It's full of upper class brazilians and argentines families so super safe and no funny business. We head off the pier and hop on our boat. As luck would have it, it's the same boat I was supposed to rent out for harley and I for the 14th. We ride off in search of land and honey. We end up at praia joao fernandinho. We anchor near the beach and have our food delivered to us by paddle board. Not too long ago I thought I would have another uneventful day yet here I was partying with some new friends drinking, eating and enjoying life as one should be. I fly my drone and grab some nice shots of this great moment. We cruise along the coast as we all talk about what lies ahead of us in the future. How funny life can work sometimes and all those little things that led us here. We all toast our new friendship and speed back to land. I rush back home trying to keep this high going and meet harley after being away for 8 hours. I tell her everything and she's glad I had a nice time. The american mentioned a great restaurant nearby and we set sail. Our waiter seats us and I order in english and get the biggest steak they had. She orders in porto and gets the octopus. Our waiter takes our menu and tells us it will be ready soon in spanish. Truly a great city for expats. It's our last night so we share a couple of stories and laughter like we did back in sampa. We head back to our villa and at this point I had a few shots of whiskey, a bunch of sodas, juices, steaks, beef and some other stuff in between that my stomach was hurting but the show must go on. Even with my gluttonous appetite I perform at top level as always. The vigor of youth. Sometimes I forget I'm the american and she's the brazilian as she really resembles margot robbie. She made a tiktok account and posted a few harley quinn videos of herself and 65 K other people also thinks she's the brazilian harley quinn as well. You know what they say about the crazy ones.

The next morning we both get up and get breakfast. I introduce my new friends to harley and over breakfast we find out we're all headed back to Rio so we decide to get a private SUV and head back together in the afternoon. I love it when a plan comes together. As a photographer it was only a matter of time until my skills were exploited and I end up taking photos for my new friends around the villa. For my trouble, my new brazilian friend gifts me a tourmaline gem necklace. This country and the people here are TOP, as they say kkkk. Since the villa is 3 minutes away from the beach, harley and I go to the beach and enjoy one last memory together. We buy some food and drinks and get a small row boat and enjoy the buzio scenery one last time.

We arrive to rio after a 3 HR drive and grab a quick bite. After some quick research, harley gets the next bus back to SP and I head back home to return once again to the place that always lives up to it's name. Cidade Maravilhosa.

EPILOGUE.

Did the trip go exactly as I planned? No. Did I still have a good time? Surprisingly yes.

It's weird in a way. When I don't plan things somehow it works out for me. When I do plan, it falls apart.

The first trip with harley to rio was a very last minute suggestion. We booked our flights at 2 am and arrived in rio at 9 am and spent the next week in paradise.

This trip we had schedule 3 weeks in advance and well you know how it goes.

I'm reminded by a line from a book my english teacher would lament from time to time.

"we go back in space because we can't go back in time".

We go back in physical space. It's why we go to the old homes we used to live in, highschools, colleges or that old bedroom we spent our youths in. We can't go back to those days but we can go back to those spots and get just that closer to those times.

So as I stood in copacabana beach on a Monday night with the sand between my toes and the waves crashing all around me, I remember that Friday night I spent with a wild redhead branca I just met a week ago at that exact same spot. We had just come back from lapa and were in high spirits. She fell from her lime scooter and got a nasty cut and bruise on her shoulder and she could care less. We were dancing to the samba music playing from one of the stands nearby and were laughing on how badly spoke in each other's native language. We were just two people that forgot the pitfalls of life for a brief moment and basked in it. In that moment disconnected from this timeline we're forever dancing and laughing the night away because the sun never comes up.

But in this one there are no happy ever afters, there is only the morning after. When we have to go back home, back to work and back to reality.

Life's a ***** and then you die. People always think it's a negative line but it's just a fact. No matter what you do or who you are, you'll always fall victim to the pitfalls of life. You'll get sick and injured. You'll try to attempt something and fail. You will slowly look around you and see all the people you love get older and older until they don't.

But in between those falls we can fill our lives with the pursuit of happiness. Take risks and chase that rush. And that's what I did. It may not have gone exactly as planned but theres a story to tell now and no story started with "well I did the math, calculated the odds and decided to not take risks. ".

There was some loss of monetary value but in it's stead a time was captured that I can keep forever after everything else goes away.

Maybe I'm wrong tho.

Because we all know money is finite and our time is infinite after all.

Any of the decent hotels are expensive, close to $200 per night. Most are not girl friendly.

Had fun and enjoyed the sun and warm weather but will not be coming back for a third visit. Returning to Colombia where there is more value between the girls, hotels and food.
