Hello there Kutz, if you could send me those numbers via PM I could check them out for you and let you know if they were any good. That way Bug Me Not 62 could have an actual update since he has four more months to go. I leave for Kerala exactly a week from now.

Posts: 174Foreigners mongering in Kerala
Reading the pages of the Kerala threads was interesting and the Linguist's analysis and conclusions are so accurate based on what my friends and I found in that wonderful little State during our visit there around the "Deepavali" festival. One outstanding quality is the very keen attitude to personal hygiene by the women here.
Just wanted to add something which may make foreign mongers happy. It is really easier for people like us to find company and we are approached by providers a lot more than I find happens with local citizens. Even the "NRIs", as Indians who live abroad are considered here, find it a bit tough even if they clearly display that they have more money than the average foreigner.
The various ferry rides in the backwaters around Kochi, and the beaches at Varkala and Kovalam are pretty good for what we are looking for. I am already booked to return to Kerala for the next "Trichur Pooram" festival this April-May, when the tourist season really reaches its peak.
Just adding my two cents worth.

The expressway that I wrote about is the one between Bombay and Pune. Many truck drivers still use the old NH4 between Bombay and Pune even after the expressway opened.
The realignments on NH17 and NH47 have reduced some distances and also allowed direct access between some towns on the way, but some people still use the old alignments even on NH17 and NH47. That was what I meant.
You are right about Bekal, Charuvattur and Canannore being on the "pre-realigned" NH17. I may have stated NH47 by error on the first part, which I think I clarified in the next part. Yes, NH17 merges into NH47 for the southern part of the drive through coastal Kerala as you have stated. You would also note that in my report I clearly stated that we did a criss-cross between the sea level and the hills, since my friend was looking to find good plantation property. So to that extent we did not always stay on NH17.Originally Posted by Maverick49

Dear EL
Comprehensive and enticing reports. I however humbly want to point out that most place described in the Part I of the report ie Bekal, Charuvattur, Cannanore etc all appear to be on or along the NH 17. NH 47 is aligned Palghat,Trichur and then on to Cochin. This is my impression from the map study from Google earth. But in your report Part I you have mentioned only NH 47. In the Part four though you mentioned both NH 17 and NH 47 as also an exporessway. I will request for a clarification on the exact route so that we can plan our road journeys accordingly. This is not a criticism but a genuine doubt. So please do not mind.

Dave, as I said in my note of January 3 addressed to Shyam, I expect to be mostly in the Trivandrum area. I am staying at least four days at the Travencore Heritage resort about six miles from Kovalam. Cochin is not too far by train (or road) so we could see if either of us could travel some distance to meet if it works out. Keep in touch meanwhile and hope for the best. Cheers.

Posts: 3EL, I will get my subscription done this week.
TVM is out of question for me. Other cities are OK. Some kind of tentative schedule will really help me. You know..tickets etc..cheaper when bought in advance. Thanks for your contribution.
Best,
Dave

Yes, I do know American women. I expect to be in Kerala from February 10 to 20) so you know the time frame. We could try exploring the scene in a group if the timing and locations match. Cheers.

El,
I'm here in the US. And if you know American women. You will understand why I long to visit Kerala. I have just mailed my subscription. Waiting for paid membership. We can monger together if dates coincide. I speak the language too. Thus making it a little easier I guess.

Thanks for the compliments, which is strictly deserved by the Kerala women. There is so much more one can say about them, but it is best experienced first-hand.
As I said in an earlier "note" here to Shyam, I expect to be in Kerala in February and we can get together if you are going to be there too. It is a good time to be in God's Own Country, weather-wise.
Be safe and happy mongering in Kerala.Originally Posted by Piper1Originally Posted by Pal
