When I was in Havana back in February, my Cuban girlfriend told me that there was a big crack down on the chicas. The new El Presidente Miguel theaz-Canel is a hard liner commie and he has targeted any free market action.

She also stated that very few girls are traveling to Havana from other parts of Cuba like they have in the past. The new El Presidente has enforced the law, and carry's a 30 year prison sentence, no chance of parole. 30 hard years in prison for these poor girls.

So, my future trips to Cuba will be anywhere but Havana, the police are super hot there. Good luck.

Thank you for this info I'm going to heed your words of precaution. I'm currently in the DR. I was thinking about hitting Cuba next month on 4 May. The one thing I hate about Cuba Havana is the heavy police presence and the pressure they put on the girls. I think I'm going to just extend my days here. I hate to get there and it's everything you stated plus more.

I had a friend that just got back from Don Cangrejo and he said they no longer let single girls in. He went on a weekend and said it was absolutely terrible and no obvious jiniteras / working girls around and only couples. I don't know if that was just a temporary or permanent thing. You may try Fantaxy in Miramar , Mio Y Tuyo , La Red, and Up and Down on Fridays but it appears Havana has declined in the freelancer nightclub scene. We were going to go in May and instead rerouted our vacation to Panama and Medellin. Hopefully things will change in the future.

I have been to Havana many, many times, But it has been nearly one year, and I know the scene changes fast and in unpredictable ways.

Can any of you insiders suggest some of the best places to meet ladies these days?

I'll go ahead and say La Rampa, La Gruta, Parts of Old Havana, and the usual places like Don Cangrejo.

BUT -- are there any recommended bars or areas or clubs other than those?

I heard Saint Johns, the club there, is closed. Is that still correct? I assume it is permanent.

Any advice would be hugely appreciated!

I'm off to Havana this week for my third trip.

I arrive Saturday. Plan to hit Don Cangrejo, La Gruta and La Red (now that St John's is closed), Fantaxxy, Fabrica Del Arte, La Esencia, and Up and Down.

I plan to do some trolling on La Rampa, Malicon, and in Vieja.

I will also check to see if Mango in Miramar to see if it's still closed.

That said, theere are always options somewhere, perhaps La Gruta. Yes, a lot of guys, but on some nights, it's thick with both guys and girls. I used to hate it there but ended up having a couple of good nights in the end.

It's incredible how they completely eliminated almost all other options on La Rampa.

These issues along with the fact that my body takes a few weeks to acclimate to the intense heat of Havana are two of the reasons why I have not and probably will not return. The few weeks I spent in Cuba almost 3 years ago was enough for me, got my taste and checked that box off my bucket list and off to greener pastures as they say.

Best single word description of the scene in Cuba (since 2004).

You have to walk around the block a few times to figure it out. Unfortunately its not point and click.

There are a lot of police and con artists.

St John's is closed. I was getting. 96 for 1 usd on the street. Police presence is very high now so you have to be tactical. La grunge has a few girls but guys are deep there. Now its probably best to work through a local until the police relax. Oh, and it's already hot there.
