I have visited Medellin about 20 times over the last 8 years with some trips lasting 3 months. I have even gotten functional in Spanish. If you are careful with who you invite and where you stay, there is not a 'high chance' you will get drugged and robbed with any girl you take back. One more thing about YouTube. Anyone with a cellphone can post on YouTube and there are no barriers to entry. You don't need any qualifications at all to post something about Colombia so watching someone on YouTube is no different than talking to a stranger and not knowing anything about him.

Most new people posting on YouTube don't make any money so there is an incentive to get views to try to get going on subscribers. You definitely need click bait to try to get views. Yes. Medellin is dangerous. It's a city of over 4 million people with a high population density and a high poverty rate. High population, high population density and high poverty rate are major factors in determining crime rate. Add in all the tourists who go for the combination of drugs and cheap pussy and it gets worse. Now toss in people who get all their information from YouTube and it's terrible.

Staying safe in Medellin is possible if you follow some common sense rules.

1. Get the fuck off YouTube. It's for cute cat videos and to watch fat women fighting in Walmart.

2. Stay sober.

3. Know where you are going. Study maps and have a plan.

4. Don't advertise. Leave your jewelry and all the expensive shit at home.

5. Carry only what you need. You don't need a wallet, 8 credit cards and $2,000 USD in cash. You need a phone, preferably 1 that isn't holding access to all your accounts. You need the cash (in pesos) you're going to spend plus 10-20%. You might need an ATM card, plus copies of your passport main page and entry stamp page.

6. Remember that you have no friends. Anyone offering to help you find girls, drugs, places to party or anything else, probably has an ulterior motive. Same goes for anyone offering drinks, or to take you somewhere.

7. Be wary of anyone offering drinks, or offering sex upon first meeting (unless you're meeting them specifically to pay for sex). Same is true for someone pushing to go to your apartment.

If you are eating in the barrios at the panaderas ordering the comida del thea for 13 mil pesos that comes with a meat, beans, rice, fried banana, soup salad and juice those kind of places never ever ask for a service charge and they always give you back exact change even if you pay with a 50 mil.

Not necessarily expensive restaurants, but any restaurant using a POS system (Point of Sale) that prints out the checks. There's always an explanation of the 10%, an explanation that it's entirely voluntary and there will be 2 prices, including the 10% or without it.
