With legalised prostitution, there are check and balances. In Thailand (most of the famous BKK spas and escort services), and also in Geylang (Singapore), there is a mandatory STD check that the girls go through every month / quarter. I have asked for and seen their last test report. It was shown in Geylang in the computer / phone, sent on email in BKK with escort services. While this reduces the risk, it does not eliminate it. But I have found these girls to be very hygienic and I take my precautions too. It is never 100% safe.
