Guys, this post is to spread awareness to all mongers here. I know it's a big post but do read fully to save yourself from this scam.

Got scammed badly and lost 25 k to a con guy. I am a guy who is very careful with each step and tries to keep safe always but I got conned this time badly. Heard from another friend that this is a common scam in Kerala and there are public announcements in some forums to not get scammed this way. I even knew about this scam but I thought from dick instead of my brain at that moment. The ordeal started at 11.30 pm and ended at 2. 30 am.

It goes like this:

Had got an FB friend request to my primary profile with an attractive DP of a girl. I just accepted thinking it might be some common friend or something without thinking much. After a week, I got a ping on fb messenger. Started asking if I know her and all. But the person said she wants to be online friends as she doesn't have any in Bangalore and all. I just chatted. And the question came to connect on WhatsApp. I asked her the number instead of giving my mongering number. She gave right away and thought it was a real girl. I pinged on WhatsApp and started getting replies. Felt whatsapp is safer too as people can play video streams using some software on Omegle, chaturbate and all and can't fake it on WhatsApp.

Soon enough, she started asking for a video call. As I was aware of such things, I asked

Most important rule. Do not self-experiment if you have high blood pressure.

There are two ways mongering using UPI can be problematic. First one as you said they can see the name, although the number with be redacted. But if you google with full name for most people it will show your social media accounts. LinkedIn mostly. If they really want to trouble you, they can find their way from there.

Second one is if the girl or spa or SP runs into some legal trouble. In that case recent transactions and call logs will come under scrutiny. For instance many afros also peddle drugs. If they get caught for drug trafficking and your account shows a transaction to theirs, then it can be a problem.

There's also this small risk of your family members seeing these transactions.

Either way the safest thing is to avoid doing it. Use good old cash. Walk to an ATM and take some cash.

Bro, why there is no way to avoid online instant payments nowadays? I agree with your answer for transactions in every other place. But when going for spa or indie, carry in cash. You know how much you going to spend or take some extra cash if you don't know. Why do you want to make UPI payment to therapist? You leave a footprint there with that and yes, chicks might pass on to such scammers easily and take commission. Quite possible.
