its nothing to do with the different notes. its a question of assuming you gave the wrong one. this happens when you are stressed after loong long journey and you are on an important call on the mobile and negotiating with these guys atr the same time.

the intention was to warn people not to take freelance ricks/ taxis. this kind of thing is very rare in bombay and never happened to me, or anyone i know, in the 5 years i lived in bombay.

sorry to hear of whatever happened to you, buddy! going through your post makes me feel that you yourself are to be blamed, rather than the "smart" rickshawala! boss. if you can't differentiate between a 500 rupee note and a 100 rupee one, and that too 3 times in succession, i am sure you are in for similar kind of rip-offs anywhere in the world! i feel you made some obvious blunders in the entire episode. i have been a regular visitor to mumbai and find mumbai taxi/auto drivers to be the most ethical and professional on work! you will be in for bigger shocks at places like delhi, chennai etc, if you repeat such mistakes and "invite" obvious rip-offs!

Anybody has any specific info then pls share.Also the action on waterfield road, there is a pub located above ICICI bank, thats it. There is no joint as such. So guys pls note and don't waste time hunting unless you have specific directions.

Also please note that Belapur / Panvel is shutdown. Dahisar is up and about but the threat of raids hangs heavy. There are raids conducted every 3rd day at different places. If you do go, then please exit by midnight.

I recently visited Heena's BP in Thane after reading a few reports. It wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. The mamsan very courteous and polite contrary to other reports. There were about 5 or 6 girls ranging from 4 to 7. I picked Pallavi who was young and looked cute. She mentioned that she is a local girl. hi. this has nothing to do with the main topic of this forum, but i thought it would help newcomers to be a bit careful. incidentally, i am not a "new comer". i have lived in mumbai for quite a few years before work took me elsewhere

i stepped out of the airport at around 7. 30 pm. as i was very tired and not thinking straight, instead of going as usual to the taxi or rickshaw row, i stepped into a rickshaw that was passing, apparently after dropping some one off (or so i thought! ).

i was headed for a hotel in khar and the guy soon was in the thick of a traffic jam somewhere around ville parle east. i suggested that he get off the highway and go through the flyover at bandra and get on to linking road. by the time we got out of the mess and got onto the highway it was around 8, 30. on the way he said it was "duty change" time and another sturdy guy sat on the drivers seat while the first guy, a puny, slimy looking fellow, sat in the passenger seat next to me and requested that we drop him off down the road.

five minute later he said we are nearing the place where he had to get off so could i give him the fare please? he demanded 300 bucks. for a ride that i should have paid 50 to 75 rupees.

tired and hungry, i cursed myself for not negotiating up front and said ok. (300 bucks is a small price to pay for avoiding trouble". he suggested i give him a 500 rupee note and he would give me 200 change, which he thrust into my hand. i handed over the money and, after some sleight of hand, he said "arre bhai this is a sau ka note" (this is a one hundred rupee note). like a dumbo i took the 100 rupee note he handed me and gave him another 500. he came back with another 100 rupee note and the comment, "how many times will you make the same mistake? "

just then i had to take an important call on my mobile and 5 minutes later i realised that we were not moving towards the place i was supposed to go to.

now i was nearing panic stations. fortunately he asked again for the 500 rupee note. i asked him to stop near a street light so i could see better and take out the "right" note from my wallet. he stopped, i jumped out with my bag (fortuntely i had only hand baggage) and unleashed a choice sample from the vocabulary i had picked up during my stay in mumbai. as a few curious onlookers moved in for a closer look, the fellow took off.

i then found that i was in bandra west and that we had been moving in a direction away from my hotel.

i found a decent rickshaw guy who took me to the hotel for rs 25. i had lost rs 800 to those two rogues.

this kind of thing happens very very rarely in bombay but my advice to people landing at santa cruz would be, if you think the cars you can book in the arrival hall are too expensive, go to the taxi or rickshaw queue. don't go near the fellows who are just driving past.

I normally stay in South Mumbai (Bombay) and generally frequent Voodoo Pub/Bar/Disco, but this time i was staying up North. So i decided to do some research of the northern zone. As it turned out i was working such long hours, all i was interested in was sleep, but i did venture out a few times in search of food and gained some information of value.

First a quick look at South Mumbai (Bombay) . I generally feel any night club which only lets in couples is not going to be much interest to me, thus i normally avoid Disco's such as Red Light. Voodoo is of course an excellent quality establishment, which seems to have deteriorated over the years and allowed some folks of non-standard inclination in, but is still a reliable source of entertainment which is why i like it. In addition to this location i listed a number of other places of interest. I have not personally gone to Greenstar, Everest and Mausam, but they have been recommended to me.

Colaba (South Mumbai (Bombay) )
- Greenstar hotel,
- mausam guest house,
- hotel Everest
- Polly Esther's, Garden House Hotel, 5 Battery Street, (91-22) 2287-1122. Open Tuesday to Sunday, cover $7 to $14, with drink tickets, individual drinks $3 to $5.
- Voodoo Pub, 2/5 Kamal Mansion, Arthur Bunder Road, (91-22) 284-1959. Open daily. Drinks $3 to $5.
- Red Light, 145 Mahatma Gandhi Road, (91-22) 5634-6249. Open, for couples and members only, Wednesday to Saturday. Cover $14 to $19 a couple, drinks $3 to $5.

Now for North Mumbai (Bombay) . The first thing i noticed was its almost impossible to accidentally find a pub or disco, you need to know where it is and tell the taxi driver where to go. This did make it harder to find new and exciting places. One thing i did notice was there were always a good supply of touts in front of the good hotels in Juhu which offered you a trip to a good night club. I come from Beijing so never follow touts, as in Beijing they are always a rip off. I got the impression this was not the case in Mumbai (Bombay) , but did not take the risk anyway. If anyone can tell me if the touts are ok or a rip off i would appreciate it. Apart from this the only place i found was Enigma, which was a “Couples only place”, thus of minimal interest. The local guys were able to take me to typical dance places, but as that was not really my thing i did not follow up these places.

Juhu (North Mumbai (Bombay) )
- Enigma, J W Marriott Hotel, Juhu Tara Road, (91-22) 5693-3287. Open, for couples only, Wednesday to Saturday. Cover $19 to $35 a couple, drinks $3 to $8.

These places i got off the ISG site for mumbai. I have summarised the places in case it will be of value to other punters.

Bandra (North Mumbai (Bombay) - Domestic Airport)
- Opp macdonalds & near kbn & above she boutheque.
- Sheesh Mahal khar. It is just located in the lane of khar traffic

This is my first report on the forum and would like to be excused if you find it too "corporate like"! I had to go to Mumbai for a day about 15 days back. Finished my work early but was booked on a evening flight and had about two hours with me. Got on to an autorickshaw and asked the guy to take me to Juhu beach. Not sure what place AJ described, but yes it fits White House to the T. The main shutters are down, paanwallah will point you their guy standing outside. Tell him what you want an he will send you inside.

The guy outside is constantly on the phone with his friends in the "section" (read LE).
Inside, the babes are perhaps better and certainly bolder. Starting rates are 3k for ST, which is 50% more than what it used to be. Of course if u hv been there before then u know what to do.
