I would say that speaking Portuguese is just as important to Brazillian girls as spanish is to Colombianas, unless you just hang out in the touristy areas of Brazil.

Which is what this guy is doing. Brazillians in Rio are just so much more laid back and the women who are out and about are totally approachable. Must be the beach scene.

Man, I did NOT want to have to learn Portuguese either, but I'll tell ya what, after deciding to learn it, it's really not that difficult a transition from Spanish, especially if your spanish grammar is already good, and it's a fun, sexy language.

I had a problem going to Spanish from Italian and still mix things up. Throwing Portuguese into the mix, a very Italianesque language, would kill me more and I would end up with a mix of all three. If Brazil were only 5 hours from the mainland I would give it a shot, the whole 9.

Def not the retired type. Like I said I'm 24 and have a passion for travel with a addicting taste for hot exotic women! American women do nothing for me anymore. After I get my second degree in 2 years I'm leaving the USA

Because of various considerations, thankfully health is not one of them, I cannot move to Colombia, although I have recently purchased an apartment in Medellin. I've done the next best thing. I would live in Brazil if it weren't for the USD $1100, 10 hour flight and the Portuguese language thing. Their economy is booming and crime is down.

Funny, the other night I was translating for a Colombian guy in a night club in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Though similar for sure, the spanish will only get ya so far in Brazil.

It's also fun to speak Portuguese with the Colombianas, they find it fun to try and translate it to spanish, and it sounds sexy.

Besides sexier women (in and out of the bedroom) Brazil has much better food than Colombia.

In the Colombian cities go to the hotspots at night and you will do fine. You like to dance, are young, educated and well travelled, I don't see a problem. Brazil is the best spot on the planet for Latin women. Ipanema beach, great food, awesome vibe (you won't find that vibe in Colombia, sorry).

Also the guys on this board are budget conscious and not reallly into the slightly higer prices for airfare and hookers that Brazil offers.

your funny dude. I'm actually a grad student going to Colombia for Spring Break to scope out cities to help decide which one to move to when I graduate.

Its an ambitious itinerary with my timeframe but I think I can make it work. As long as I get one day and 2 nights in each city thats all I need.

Sorry you were the recipient of some snarkyness without good cuase. It seems to be a hobby of some posters. I was in your shoes 20 years in Central America, and used working girls as back ups for when the club scene did not work out, just as you are planing. Now, I'm too lazy and 20 year old chicas are way too much work and my rate of sucess is far to low- but you get go get them.

I would say that perhaps cutting out on your longest leg would make the trip far more enjoyable. I personally like to sink into a spot for a bit longer, especially when I am working for the freebies.

One options also is getting a cheap flight from Bogata to one of the Costal towns. Really not too expensive if you buy a one way flight in country.

Sounds like something that would go big in Peru or one of the cultures / countries that (legally) comsume (crew) the coca leaves.

A couple years ago I also read the Maxim article about this elixir but in my travels to Medellin and Cartagena I have never seen or heard tell of it. I believe the Maxim author bought it in Cali. It is as far as I know not approved nor legal to buy it in Colombia. If anyone knows different please weigh in. (BTW. Coca sek is an energy drink made with coca leaves that according to the Maxim magazine writer puts Red bull to shame!)

So, you're going just to get an overview. Sounds like an interesting but not the usual Yankee trip to Colombia. Please consider writing a report about your trip. Besides, nothing is written in stone. If you find a city that you don't want to leave, then don't. I'm curious. What drew you to Colombia. I take it your're not the retired type, but just starting on your professional career.

I'm not going to Colombia to bang hookers. But I like to have a plan B if I find myself empty handed at the end of the night. I loved Rio. After going out to the clubs, I would go to Balcony Bar and in one week had 3 girls go back to my apartment for free and even cooked for me the nxt day! I'm hoping to have the same results in Colombia!

With that type of travel schedule, you won't have time to hit any clubs. You'll only see the insides of airports or bus stations.

Has anyone tried Coca Sek? I was reading about this drink made with coca leaves. Whats it like? Can you buy it anywhere in Colombia?

This would have made for a truer story but "through the openings between the seats." as you claim, in the back rows does not allow for much of a gap to converse through a seat.

That is exactly my point! I am sure these folks (LOL) would love a bite to eat but what they really want is to get a buzz or keep a buzz and since I can totally relate to that, I am cool with that! I sure is hell am not going to start trying to reform a guy down on his luck. No fucking way, I want the guy to be happy! He already has enough problems!
