I always take Euro Taxi (&1045; &1074; &1088; &1086; &1058; &1072; &1082; &1089; &1080. It is cheap. A ride in and around the center hardly costs more than 50 Gr. A ride from the center to the airport costs less than 200 Gr. They tell you the price on the phone in advance. So no hassle with the driver.

The procedure is the following: You call and tell them where you are and where you want to go. You also have to give them your phone number, they say they don't see it on their display. Then they quote the price and tell you not to hang up. Don't hang up even if it seems that they did. After they have found the car which is nearest to your place they pass the details to you (plate number etc.). Usually it is not an official taxi but a normal car. As soon as it has arrived, the driver calls you.

The dispachers don't speak English. If you don't speak Russian, you have to learn the numbers and the following words / sentences:

My address: moy adres.

I want to go to: ya hochu v

There may be another issue. When I recently travelled to UK, Mamba somehow blocked me from selecting any region other than UK, after dedecting my IP address location. I don't have such a problem back home, so maybe that's a similar issue with the US? Did anyone else ever had that.

Usually the most popular choices (Russian, Ukraine or Kiev, Odessa) are listed at the top of the menu.

You can stop any time and search all the girls in a country, oblast or city.

Odessa is a tough nut to crack. Lots of Russians on vacation, some have as much money if not (much) more than you, they speak the lingo and know the culture. The "beach" at Odessa is nothing much to speak of. If you are thinking Miami Beach or any other nice beach, this is really not it.

Odessa is dirty and ugly. Beach will be occupied up to one inch of the waterline in general. Unless you can find a "public" beach which will smell bad and be covered in trash.

That said, Itaka is nice, people say Ibiza is the best but it's maybe like any other Ukranian / Russian type judgment, might be more expensive so it's "the best".

I saw a lot of clueless drunken Russian types in their above the knee jean shorts and flipflops going around to the clubs. I was dressed up, looked well off, no drinking. So of course, the cops stopped me to hassle me. Took my passport and held me for 10 minutes asking interminable questions like what my reason to be in France after Ukraine was and where I would be staying in France, etc. While the drunk Russians stumble around and get in fights.

So the answer to your question would seem to be that you are better off dressing to fit in with the crowd. Having just left Odessa, the crowd looked very young, very Russian. I didn't see anyone much who looked over 40 let alone in their 30s. Seemed to be a lineup of WGs at Itaka at the outdoor bar area, but kind of 6-7 ish. I was with some friends and when the girls went dancing got hit on by Germans and Italians on the dance floor and all were rejected.

Can't say I liked Odessa much. Hope your stay is better.

Any questions I ask is so that I can avoid appearing like a clueless American. That's what we're here for, correct? To educate ourselves. I asked how casual I could dress in a sea-side resort area, especially in the clubs; seems like a relevant question.

Regarding what to wear: in the brief time I've spent on the Ukraine boards, you guys make a lot of catty comments and insults about dressing and appearance.

That is an extremely effeminate and gay thing to do, in American culture. Just thought you might like to know that.

It's warm in Kiev now, and one of the best places to stay is the Bora Bora beach club on the Dniepr river banks. On the sand beach itself, there are many young women alone or with girlfriends. They are very open to initiating conversation. In the morning, the ratio of women to men ratio is often 4 to 5 times. At around 4pm, Kiev's golden youth come and fill up the rest pads around the swimming pools. Many young hotties. In the evening, it turns into a disco. And at 9am some are still dancing!
