Hi,
I am planing a trip to Koh Samui the coming March. What is the better place to stay? Chaweng or Lamai? I am looking for a nice beach during the day, but also some good choice of bars and girls in the evening. Please also give me some recommandations for hotels in Chaweng or Lamai. My favorite at the moment is the Wanta Resort in Lamai.
Thanks for your opinion!

Hi all, just stumbled on these forums whilst 'doing my homework. ' Anyhows, I am currently staying in Koh Samui, really loving the place. Went to Phuket for a couple of nights, did not like the place at all. The place is swarmimg with tourists / farang, so came back to samui. I would recommend hiring a scooter as others have stated, and yes be careful on the roads, its not unusal for a pickup to coming towards you on your side of the road, or for stray dogs to come out of nowhere in the night! I have been staying in lipa noi, about a 40 minute ride to lamai, its kinda far, but nice tl get away frlm the crazymess when you want, and you can go get rowdy when you want. The girls are awesome! They all fall in love with me, or is it my baht, haha. I likw the girls from the lamai area beer bars, they don't mind a ride on the back of my scooter, I give them 1000bt and 200bt for a taxi, I kimd of have to kick them out around lunch, or they would never leave. Havnt really had much luck in chaweng, but I don't like chaweng, too many young tourists going bananas! I guess I'm getting older haha. The power crisis is all good now, big generator trucks all over the show, so no problem. Have fun guys.

Posts: 822Samui is the best place left in Thailand for P4P while in all other places the story is over!
But even is Samui they are not happy to have sex for longer time. (Regardless of the money you pay)
Pay attention to the whether (rain chart) , or you might be locked in your room.

Pattaya should be (and mostly always has been for me) ST500 / LT1000 +barfine (if that's a BB girl) , BKK = 1, 5-2 times more, Samui = same same as Pattaya (not talking 'about the overpriced go-go girls)

Posts: 1440Sometimes they go 2 or 3 days without power in KS. I had one full day of it after a bad rain last year.
The infrastructure of the place just has not caught up to the demand.

Posts: 393I left Samui yesterday. It really sucks there, without power. Higher end restaurants, bars and clubs have generators, but most of the beer bars are candle lit or just empty and a lot of stores are closed. A lot of hotels don't have generators either, so the guests are getting water hours to shower etc. My hotel had not too many guests and had full power from their generator. I talked to many people that were complaining about not being able to sleep with no air con.

I am told from people there that one of the submarine cables feeding electric power to the island is damaged and can't supply. As a consquence there are substantial power cuts and electricity is supplied only for a short amount of hours here and there (probably under an emergency plan)
People has home generators but also fuel supply is at a shortage as gas stations can't function properly. Might take a week or so before it is all restored.
I cna imagine the whole industry based on "cold" (and in a tropical island very small is left not need cold) is suffering, not to mention where electric power is needed to run anything.
