Hi Garry. Too many variables! Look at latestays dot come, for Bali / Legian. My budget hotel may not be YOUR budget hotel and my preferences may not be the same as yours. Everyplace is close to some action (clubs, whatever) but you won't find a "zone" like Soi Cowboy in Bangkok.

If you want a suggestion for the mid-US$70s, try The Jayakarta Bali Beach Resort. You can hunt out the back gate and down the beach a 100 meters or take a taxi to MBargo, wherever

Hey Matador. I'm not sure how much time you have in your layover, but I'd be cautious about time to / from the airport and checking in.
