As a cream for topical application, it works if used at the very beginning of the outbreak. Once the sores are developed, its use is very limited or even useless.
The pills mentioned at that site are considered to be even more effective. Some people take them daily to significantly reduce the number & severity of outbreaks & chances of transmission. The creme may be taken simultaneously with an OB.

    Benefits of Antispetic Mouthwash?

At first glance I would think that Listerene might be the best bet, as it now includes the anti-bacterial agent Thymol in addition to Eucalyptus, Menthol and Methyl Silicate and alcohol. But I read somewhere (this Forum?) that traditional Listerene actually makes things worse because the alcohol irritates and opens up any existing mouth sores. Not sure if that's true or not.

Colgate Total Advanced on the other hand is alcohol free but contains 0. 075% Cetylpyridinium chloride (anti-bacterial). I think the rest of it is basically mild soap. This shouldn't irritate sores, but appears to only offer protection against bacteria. Not that I'm saying Listerene has anti-viral properties, but might it? Colgate also makes something called Colgate Peroxyl which contains Hydrogen Peroxide and they recommend as an anti-septic mouthwash and for treating cold sores. It comes in an alcohol free version and one that is 5. 8% alcohol.

    Anyone have any info?

    Happy Mongering!
I have no information on mouthwash's, but am really happy you took the time to open up the question! So far the best answers I have gotten are give it up and accept it, treat it after the fact, become celibate, or wear a full body condom! None of which I am willing to do! I certainly don't believe the mouthwash could hurt and might help, but I think that Herpes is a viral infection. So far it seems nothing will kill the virus? One thing I don't quite understand is that if the type 1 Herpes is present and there is a facial outbreak, does that automatically transfer to a vaginal outpouring of the infection. IE: DATY=you got it! Come on everyone, let's weigh in on this and come up with some "reasonable" approaches to this (everybody has it) problem. Mrclen

Thanks for the info. Very helpful. The FoN drops when applied can stop the progress of the outbreak and dry up the sore, greatly reducing the duration and severity of the outbreak. People I know who have used it found their sore (s) begin to dry up quickly and expressed surprise to find the time of outbreak greatly reduced. If applied at the onset of the burning or tingling sensation, could even prevent the outbreak of a sore. Perhaps using both in combination could be very helpful.

Within time most people develop ability to fight off the outbreaks. Or, at least, reduce the number and severity of such. There are things that you can do that will greatly assist her. I have sent you a pm mate.

Hell, we don't even have to have sex at all to get infected and condoms are not real protection against some of the non vaginally transmitted STD's. Let's see: no BBBJ's (that we all enjoy) , no DFK (kind of takes away from the GFE) , no K at all, no DATY (don't know how we can warm them up without touching) , no CIM (damm) , no fingering, virtually no contact of any kind. I guess in the future we should all buy and use bio-hazard suits before we prepare for any type of mongering experience. Doesn't sound like much fun does it? Oh well, I am old so I'll just keep plodding along doing the best I can. Thanks again for all the input, mrclen.

Funny. I've also thought about things like, why not have a bar where along with the girls there are cats. Like cats all over the internet. Cats dancing and just looking cool while the patrons just sit around drinking and smoking. Nothing necessarily sexual about it, cats are cool.

That being said the way to beat cancer is to drink fresh vegetable juice, it's loaded with antioxidants. Buying a juicer or blender is the best investment you can make for your health. With adequate nutrition we may be able to stave off the cancer, which is what HPV and a lot of other STDs turn into. And I would stay away from supplements like TA65 as guess what else increases telomerase size? Nicotine. Which causes cancer.

I think we all need to be worrying a lot more about cancer. Living in cities, especially third world cities means that the very air that we breathe is carcinogenic. Polluted air, chemically treated water, pesticide laden fruits, estrogen injected meat and STD infected working girls, there's threats everywhere. Win some lose some. Can't live forever anyway.

YES! You can still get HSV (herpes simplex virus) without an outbreak. The chances are smaller but still there. You are most contagious right before it appears. This is true with both HSV 1 and 2 (oral or genital). According to studies genital HSV-2 infections were the most frequently recurring herpes infections, followed by oral HSV-1, genital HSV-1, and last of all, oral HSV-2. Other studies show that people with recurrent oral HSV-1 shed virus in their saliva about 5% of the time even when they show no symptoms. In the first year of infection, people with genital HSV-2 shed virus from the genital area about 6-10% of days when they show no symptoms. Thus, in addition to YES you can transmit or be infected when there is no visible sign, note too that HSV-1 of the genitals is rising as is HSV-2 oral. How do you get genital HSV-1? You got it! and HSV-2? Likewise, HPV can do the very same...even without an outbreak it is possible...less so but still very possible.

I understand, again from the web, that once these are completely cleared up that the risk of transmission is almost nil, although the virus remains in the body forever. While I would assume that this relates to kissing, I wonder about DATY and BBBJ from her. She was reluctant to kiss me and I did not get my normal BBBJCIM from her. I imagine that she knew what this was and was protecting me, at least I hope that was the case. She is a good girl and I really don't want to drop her because of this, but of course if my health is at risk, goodbye and quickly!

As the web was not very clear on the subject other than preaching doom and gloom, I wonder if any of the bros have a bit more information on this. IE: What is safe and what is not after the sores are completely cleared up? If you do a DATY or get your needed BBBJ how much are you a candidate for HPV? Any information on this subject is greatly appreciated.

If the doom and gloom as shown on the web are correct, then I imagine that almost all of the bros in this forum have the virus and are rapidly passing it around! Mrclen
When the sores are gone the risk is gone too, but she will remain carrier.

As a matter of fact, about 50% of all of us are carriers of HSV-1 (not HPV-1 which is the virus responsible for cervical cancer!) , so you may be carrier already without knowing it.

During an outbreak it is best not to kiss her or get a BJ. HSV-1 is different from HSV-2 (which causes genital herpes; about a few percent only are carriers) but cross-infections are not unknown: HSV-1 causing sores in the genital area and HSV-2 being found around the mouth. So safety first!

Cold sores you get with Herpes simplex virus and HPV stands for Human Papiloma virus which causes gential warts and prolonged exposure to females with multiple strains sometimes cervical carcinoma, gentila hepes and cold sores are caused by diiffrent starins of HSV you canot get cross infection with either strains, not everybody is susceptible to oral herpes but susceptible oral herpes
