The hotel is GF. I stay there on all my visits and never faced any problem.

I will be in DSM mid March for 9 days. Pleasure trip, and my first visit in Africa ever.

The first 3 days I will stay at Holiday Inn city centre, booked a double room.

Earlier posts report that their bar is also used by (mid scale) providers, but does anyone know if the hotel itself is GF, any guest policy restrictions, joiner fees etc?

Are there any notable action otherwise in that neighbourhood?

In particular, what are the chances in DSM for daytime rendezvous with non-pro's looking for sideline bonuses? I read it's happening in eg. Nairobi, but how about DSM?

Should I look for relocating to a more vibrant area after the first couple of days, eg. Sinza, any suggestions?

As I understand it, the beach areas are mostly residential, and not safe?

Honestly, did I make the right decision on going to DSM for my first visit in the region, or should I hit the first bus up to Mombasa or get a flight to Nairobi?

I agree with my fellow friend below, I have been here since 2007, I think Mombasa is good compare to dsm better go there you can catch a bus to Mombasa or even Precision Air (local airline) and take you there.

After having stayed on that coast for two years, I would advise you to go to Mombasa instead.

City beaches in Dar are few and crap, traffic is horrible and mongering not half the fun as it is in Mombasa.

Take the bus, preferably Thameed which leaves nearby the City Center and has a nice coach, especially the VIP seats.

In the center theres is Bilicanas club which is full of working girls, try also the bar in Hyatt Regency called Level 8. Very nice place, but european prices. If lucky you can find a lovely but high priced bird there too.

Food wise don't miss the Badminton Club called Bimbis in town. Very nice and delicious indian food.

Not much to see in Dar really, I would not even stay three days unless you arrive on a weekend.
