I just now figured that to the Chinese, things like you write about are just matter of fact and something that somehow is like common knowledge; but to foreigners like you, you not only study and search out these things, I detect a certain amount of fascination too.

I have heard this misconception more times than I can whizz. Regarding the racism towards blacks not just in China, but Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand etc, its kinda the same ol song and dance (I won't go into what those are as it would take to long for me to explain). I however remember a time When I lived in Bangkok that I was on my way back to my apartment after a social gathering. I took a taxi back to my place. Along the way, the taxi comes to a police checkpoint. The taxi was ordered to stop and pull over. I thought: "well ok, maybe theres' something wrong with his car". Nope, they wanted to do a check on me. I was asked nicely to step out of the taxi and present my passport. I was then asked where I stayed, I told them the area, and, they were quite surprised when I spoke. They assumed I was Nigerian. They did a pat down, saw that I had nothing and sent me on my way with an apology. I was close to home, we hit another police checkpoint. Same scenario all in one night!. Mind you I wasn't mad at all. I was calm, and I did everything they asked me to do. It didn't take long for them to send me on my way.

All in all I put much blame on some of the drug running Africans who fuck it up not for me, but for ANY person of ethnicity. Will it get better in time is anyone's guess. Getting back to the women in Asia, a LOT of them are VERY curious and want to"take the plunge" but are too nervous to do so. I moreso take a carefree attitude if they wish to know more about me. In Thailand now by the way by way of USA (Massachusetts).

I have always been interested in the cultures of people, and in particular, traditions relating to sexual matters. Perhaps it is because non-indigenous Australians such as me, don't really have a rich cultural heritage. In fact, many say we are totally uncultured!

I have read a lot about (I use the word 'read' rather than 'study') a number of Asian cultures and I certainly find many aspects fascinating, and many, near impossible to fully understand. For example, there is an old Japanese tradition that a girl must jump naked, legs apart, over an open fire on her wedding night. Prove her virginity? Burn her bushy growth off? WTF!

Of course some traditions / superstitions are easily understood. The belief that White Tigers are bad luck, is simply an extension of the earlier belief that they may be infertile.

There are often red herrings and misconceptions held by non-Chinese about Chinese culture and superstitions. For example, many Singaporean and some American mongerers believe that White Tigers will f#*k your brains out. Unfortunately, I cannot read Chinese, so I have to sort the wheat from the chaff in English language publications. I tend to find the most reliable are direct translations from Chinese texts.

Chinese culture, that relates to sexual matters, is also a good conversation topic with Chinese girls. They can be extremely impressed that you know about the traditions. You just have to hit the right topic that is of interest to them. And (in my experience) miscommunication between the two of you can add a touch of hilarity to the pubic proceedings.

And many traditions are part culture and part superstition.....Chinese culture is not easy to understand. And cultural traditions and superstitions can vary from area to area within China, particularly where there are ethnic divides. Western scholars of Chinese culture study for years and state that their knowledge is never complete, and that they do not understand many aspects of Chinese culture.

Nothing much more to offer to explain the preponderance of natural white tigers in China, except the fact that as a race Orientals are just less hirsute, plain and simple!

Thanks SEAJ, I knew that sleeping with a white tiger was bad luck, but did not know it was believed to be 7 years bad luck. Lucky I am not superstitious (cross my fingers and touch wood).

Another aspect of Chinese culture (or mentality) is that they take offense for nothing. The Chinese always claim foreigners don't understand Chinese culture. In my view Chinese culture isn't that complex or hard to understand. One just have to experience the country for a while and learn how the Chinese think and act.

Yes, anyone can go back and read my previous posts. I don't understand Lao Ma's remark about my describing that Chinese women / girls meet foreigners at Sanlitun. Many Chinese still think it's inappropriate for Chinese women to be out late at night and specially meet foreigners. The few women, however, who aren't restricted by such a conservative mindset go to places where they can meet foreigners. And Sanlitun is such a place. But this is a minority of course. Most Chinese women take pride in being "traditional".

This mainly because China was a closed society before and old timers do not approve young girls seen with foreigners other than ethnic Chinese.

This reminds of when I lived in Shenzhen. I had a very pretty GF from Hubei who was 18 years old. We would go everywhere together and even kiss and hold hands in public.
