Its all pretty sad really. Let's just look at some numbers. In 2000 the Baht was over 40, a beer in Cowboy was 80 baht (as was a lady drink), BF was 400 Baht in Cowboy, and ST was 1 k Baht. So you go out have three beers, a couple of lady drinks, BF, and screw. Your damage; 45 USD. A great deal, and why most of us chose to make the horrid fligth to come here and why many of us chose to move here. Fast forward to today and you are looking at three times that. Now how many things in your life are you paying three times the amount for now than you did in '00? Very few. The prices in BKK have gotten out of hand.

And drink prices exceed those in the US. There are BKK bars now (no GoGos) that are charging over 400 baht for a cocktail. Those are NYC, Paris, Tokyo prices, but you nowhere near get the quality of life or quality for money that you get in those cities.

BKK was a great place. It had a "decent" quality of life for very little money. Sadly it still has "decent" quality of life but for twice and sometimes three times the price. Hey, I still love the food here, but would I choose this as my home now? Probably not.

After walking up and down Sukhumvit Road yesterday I finally gave up on Cherry Tree. Could not find the soi. I know I was right near it, however I like to find places on my own as it adds more to the worth for me, had too many San Mig's to have anyone take me seriously anyway if I was to ask for directions.

I DID however spend some time with the ladies at Eden. Oh yeah. Good times.

Very late they congregate around the food stands and popup bars along that stretch. Also many on the sidewalk on the east side of Asoke north of Sukhumvit and along Sukhumvit to Soi 23. As I was staying at the Sofitel and went out in the wee hours to grab some food, I had many opportunities to observe.

Does not include your drinks either. I would say by the time a punter has a few and takes a gal he is looking at 125- 150 USD for ST.

Its just gotten ridiculous and if you are every in Nana drinking near one of the ST hotels you can clock the STs. When we were there the average "couple" spent less than 30 min in the ST room. And of course that includes 2 showers. So you are talking about less than 10 min of action. I really am amazed that some gals have them lining up to spend this.

I've probably been guilty of overpaying or not bargaining but yes it's getting ridiculous. In the states I can get an hour for about $200. The only advantage here is that you have 100's if not 1000's to pick from. The quality isn't assured in either location. Hit or miss at best. The times are changing around us. Asians from the more westernized countries like Japan and Korea throw money around like it's nothing. But I don't think they monger for the same reasons we do. You can still get laid reasonably in Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, Myanmar, and maybe Laos. I hear China is still relatively reasonable but a pain in the ass. It happened in Rio, is happening in Columbia and Costa Rica. So why fly 20 plus hours? I often ask myself. Probably because it's cold as hell back home. I like the culture and the vibe of Asia. I like to wonder.
