To answer my own question a few posts back, yes, there are short term hotels down in the Gulch. For 3 hours you'll pay anywhere from $10 - 25 US. One I can recommend is called "the office" with your standard room for about $12 or the upgrade with a jacuzzi for $18. While the water was filling up the large tub, I got a nice little massage.

Posts: 275Can anybody confirm this story?
A place called, "Monica's" in SJO places ads almost daily of Craiglist. I just noticed that the post below has appeared today and again yesterday. Can anybody in SJO provide any ground truth about this situation. If it's true members should be made aware. Also, the Pirate Club has recently taken to posting ads on CL too FYI. Thanks in advance to our fellow mongers on the ground for checking this out. Here's a pic from my trip to SJO last Jan for your trouble.
I'm safe back in the USA now but I'm warning to stay out of Monicas' place. Guys came in with knives and robbed me and my friends. I cannot give details at this time beause I was told not to but I will say this much, this was a setup! All the girls was aware of what was coming down. It was obvious in the way they all were acting. STAY AWAY FROM THERE.

Has anyone used a short term (love) hotel down by HDR? What do they typically go for per the hour?

Posts: 23Costa Rica February Report--San Jose
Off to San Jose after four nights in Jaco.
Monday-- up early to the San Jose airport to drop off one of our group who was heading home. We continue over to the Poas volcano-- clouded in -- could not see anything. Then over to the La Paz waterfalls-- really worth it. Lots of walking through some wonderful exhibits-- birds, frogs, snakes, big cats, butterflies and of course the waterfalls. Recommended.
Arrived downtown San Jose about 4:00 -- staying at La Amistad hotel--great location and reasonably priced rooms. Only negative-the trains that go right by the hotel. They stop running about 8:00 pm but resume at 5:15 AM.
About a block away from Amistad is the Sportsmen's Lodge. Nice sports bar. Decided to try dinner there at 7:00 pm. Food sucked and very few chicas-- this was a Monday. But -OMG this gorgeous mullata Nica was sitting at the bar. Sat next to her-- very little English-- but my Spanish is passable-and Google Translate really helped. Beautiful, tall, light brown skin, beautiful legs and an incredible smile. 20 years old-- just arrived from Managua four days before. A student who has done a number of beauty pageants-- saw the pics on her phone. OMG. Quickly agreed on $100 for two hours. After a beer-- back to Amistad. Some of the best sex ever. Multiple orgasms-- enthusiastic. However--only LFK and CBJ. But I didn't care. And her name is Xiomara. She is going back to Managua in 2 months and she doesn't work in Managua. Man I would love to be with her again-- but can't see how that will ever happen.
Last full day -- Tuesday-- saw some sights in San Jose-- a couple of museums and walked around the entire downtown area. It must be 15 degrees cooler in San Jose than in Jaco-- so walking around is very pleasant. Stopped in to the Hotel Del Rey--was not that impressed-- although this was only a Tuesday afternoon. Chicas are pretty aggressive--some were decent- most were not. Also stopped for a beer at Zona II-- this is really a brothel where you choose one of the girls and take her to one of their rooms-- no take out. Once again this was a late Tuesday afternoon--maybe 7 girls-- only one of which looked doable. But I had other plans for the last night.
Last night --Tuesday--had made arrangements to see Milady again, the Tica who I had met in Jaco. She arrived at 7:30 stayed until 11:00- had some drinks at the bar downstairs. And up to the room-- BTW, the Penthouse at Amistad is a good deal and a huge apartment. Milady started with a great massage-- and the sex was even better this time. Should have negotiated an all night--TLN-- it would have been nice to wake up next to this beautiful woman. Oh well. We had a great time in any event.
So back to reality --writing this while on the plane heading home. 6 nights -- 7 girls-- 2 really fantastic--1 exceptional-- 2 good-- and 1 to forget.
We had a van and driver for transport--that was arranged through Sid at One Lucky Dog tours--a good guy who was very helpful. We paid $110 from the airport to Jaco. Not bad when you split it between several guys. Sid hooked us up with a fellow named Oscar, great guy- cell506-8877-7060.
Overall Costa Rica is more expensive than I thought it would be. I dropped about $2500 over the 6 nights including airfare. But then I probably paid more than I should have for the chicas. I would certainly return--especially for for a short trip. Will be heading back to Indonesia in the fall.

Posts: 7I have a very short layover at Real Intercontinental. Any action in or around that area? Looks like there's a Multiplaza mall close by. I have been to HDR before. I just don't have the time to head down there after a few business meetings.

Posts: 3359Exactly. Ask for a quantity discount, a cash discount, a senior citizen's discount, or a discount because it's a holiday even if it's not. This last is especially amusing. '¿Un descuento por feriado puede ser?' 'No es feriado, señor. ' '¡Pues sería feriado para mi si logro en comprar un poquito del Sidenafil!' But ask for a discount. I am in Guate now and you can buy all kinds of shit like Ambien and Vicodin and Xanax and there is a law that anybody, any time, is entitled to a 30% discount on pretty much all medications. But you have to ask for it!. Learning to bargain politely and respectfully is critical to your success in Latin America.
