There isn't an equivalent to Classico or Mab's in MDE; there is no well-known freelancer pickup bar. This is one of the laments for MDE. You've got the casas, the strip clubs, the massage parlors, and the streetwalkers, but no FL bars. Or, not any that are known to us, the average gringo monger w / limited Spanish.

However, there is a nightlife scene at Parque Lleras, and we did visit it during our trip in May. However, the paisas come and go in groups, it's not a singles' scene. They are notoriously cliquish, but we didn't find them to be too terrible. MDE bar scene is the kind of place you visit with a girl you have pipelined beforehand on ColombianCupid.

In Colombia one can find TLN most anywhere. In Columbia , I am not so sure.

The closest thing to the old Help in Rio is La Dolce Vita in Cartagena. I remember in 2009 a TLN from LDV turned into a todo la semana. In Medellin you can session with a girl at Fase2 for 180 and get her number and set up a TLN on her night off for 300 k if you have a modicum of game.

Getting a TLN in Colombia is really the same as it is in Thailand, CR, Brazil and yes in the US of A. If you build rapport and have a connection with the girl your chances for ST vs. LT go up dramatically.

You are absolutely right that hotels in many parts of the world have hookers going in and out of them all the time. Happens a lot even in certain hotels in midtown Manhattan. A co-worker of mine once told me of a free show he saw during mid-afternoon, some business guy banging the heck out of some hooker in a very famous high-class hotel across his office building.

But Colombia is a bit different. May I remind you this is a country that's had some significant "security" issues in the recent past? People, even pretty girls walking in alone, are not allowed to just go in and out of Colombian hotels.

And in any case, as Black Page has pointed out, you can't throw a pebble in Medellin or Bogota without hitting a love motel nearby. When in Rome.

I suspect the language barrier scares a lot of guys into not using them. Or they mistakenly think they are safer in a regular hotel. On the contrary, taking a chica you just met to an hourly motel is probably safer for you in terms of not getting robbed. I almost always do my duplas in a love motel for that reason.

On a side note, just wanted to comment on Quagmire's TripAdvisor review. I don't think it's such a big deal as eventually the review gets lost in the pile with the other reviews, especially as time passes.

Still, he could phrase things a bit more diplomatically; instead of "single male" or "chica policy" he can use more discreet phrases, and guys in the hobby will still be able to read between the lines and know what he's talking about.

For example, you can mention if a hotel has a "strict guest policy" or that "should your friend choose to stay the evening" an additional charge of such and such applies etc.

Most people will skim over those details while hobbyists will know exactly what you mean.

Thanks, I did not realize that about the quantity of Love Motels, so that is quite helpful. That is the way it is with Pattaya with motels practically attached to the Beer Halls. Although it is less about registering and more about minimizing the transit time of the ladies. But one thing I like about using my own room is that it is easier to lay it a person's own supplies and "fun stuff", so I have never been as into incall or Love Motels. So the Mansion seems a good choice for me.

On travel reviews, I probably would just note that it was very easy for friends to come up to the room without the security hassle at so many Medellin hotels. Johns would get the drift, but it would go right past most everyone else.

I am more of a Europe and North American mongerer, where I have certainly had no problem with women coming up to the room, or accompanying them up to the room. I know to respect each different culture, which is why I asked about experiences with the Holiday Inn Express. Yes. Holiday Inn Express nails you with a substantial "chica fee". I brought my novia there the second night of my trip. They charged me a "chica fee" because I did not declare her upon checking in. And yes, it was stated there in the check-in rules. They also hit me with the hotel tax that they co not charge tourists because she was a local girl. The rules state that if a "local" stays at the hotel for even one night, they will charge you the additional hotel tax that locals pay for the entire stay. Same exact thing happened to me at a boutique hotel in Parqe Lleras. Read the fine print.

I read the law and I didn't find anything about if you have a local guest you need to pat the VAT. Here's the law:

You will be exempted from paying 16% VAT if you are buying accommodation services like "packages" that combine for example hotel stay and transport or hotel stay and restaurant or breakfast.

The hotel must be officially registered in the National Tourism Register.

You bought a package or plan from a registered Tour Operator.

Are all foreigners in Colombia hotel tax exempted?

No, according to Colombian law 2646 from 2013 if you are a non-resident foreign visitor or Colombia national you are granted a VAT tax exemption only if you fulfill these conditions:

Original passport with your Colombia entrance stamp showing that you are not being longer than 183 days in the country.

Original passport with tourist visa TP-11 or.

Andean card or Mercosur card with stamps PIP5 or PTP-5 showing your tourist condition.
