DR is similar Espanol as Cuba. I was in Havana last November and a middle-aged Colombian couple was staying in the same casa as me. They told me they were having a hell of a time understanding the Cubanos. Probably the same dynamic as me (from the Midwest US) in Scotland a few years ago having difficulty understanding the locals.
Have no problem communicating with Colombians nor Dominicans 10 years I went there. Be careful with persons that have economic interest in scaring you to stay in overpriced stuck up foreigner ghettos like Poblado!
What's wrong with a drunk gringo looking for a strip club? Guess it's better to be a drunk gringo that's speaks Espanoll? I don't speak espanol to I get drunk, then that's what my English sounds like. I tell the girls when I get to club that I don't speak espanol to I get drunk. .
My good Spanish of today helps at lot, it's still not perfect, but coloquial. Even that help a lot.
Spanish intensive courses, individual or in a small group, can change the situation for your in weeks.
Work hard on the accent. A peculiar accent is harder to understand than if you use the wrong form of a verb.
English speakers must focus on pronouncing "are". It's the key.
And people like a lot when you use Spanish correctly, it's like they feel you have an interest in Colombia, not just another drunk gringo looking for strip clubs.

I just put Pues in as many times in between words and end it with a Que Chimba or parces or Bacano. Muy Charroooo ajjjajaja.
BTW you know you've been living in Colombia for a long time when auto correct changes your hahahahah to jaajajjajaja.
That holds doubely true for the Dominican Republic. Guys call themselves learning Spanish by repeating what they heard from a Dominican, when most Dominicans don't use anything close to Spanish at all.

An well-educated Paisa might appreciate you using proper espanol, but the prepagos, taxistas, et al don't give a shit. For the most part, they don't use anything close to correct Spanish.

Medellin has world class restaurants and shopping, none of which are downtown. Some of the non-trash members might want to bring a girl over that doesn't have glue on her breath.
Downtown is not for the faint of heart nor scared of their own shadow type. I don't go to Medellin for the food or to shop. And none of the non-P4P girls that I go out with have a problem with staying downtown. (LOL. After all, aren't 99.99% of the people staying in downtown hotels locals?) As a matter of fact, one of them called to book it for me for my next stay at the end of the week. I am not out to try to impress a chica. They need to be trying to impress me.

Downtown has the casas and a few lower end strip clubs, and that's pretty much it. Those can be a lot of fun. Medellin has world class restaurants and shopping, none of which are downtown. Some of the non-trash members might want to bring a girl over that doesn't have glue on her breath. Maybe a place that doesn't allow girls in that forgot their cedulas. Then there's the guys who might want to walk out of their hotel and take a walk around without worrying about being stabbed.
Maybe they just don't want to be stuck in the sewer after they've had their fun.
Yeah, Centro is not everyone's cup of tea. For me, it's fun for a day or two, but after that I need nicer surroundings. But if you don't mind hanging in a gritty (and possibly dangerous) area, you can find some real gems for next to nothing.

It is easy to initiate chit-chat with Medellin women but as soon as they realize you don't speak Spanish they lose interest. If they are pros, however, your money will generate the interest.

Because downtown where the hotels are is where the action is located. And there is also no problem bringing in guests there either. Actually that is why most of them are there; to fuck in. I know a couple of guys who stay in them long term for less than $150/month. True mongers don't have want to waste time or money running back and forth between Poblado and downtown.

I've posted this before, but if you like big fake ass and tits, Cali is the place for you. Hard to believe, but it has even more silicone than MDE. Some of the chicas look like cartoon characters!
Cali has a great music / dance scene and it's easier to meet non-pros than in MDE if that's your thing.
However, MDE is a prettier and more pleasant city.

That's a lot of money for Brazil, It's been 6 years since I left Brazil. I lived there for 5 years and this will be my first time in Medellin. I think I'm going to need a lot of money to purchase silicone and booties.
